It was the best dream that Steve could ever have. Period. He'd had trouble sleeping the night before because of the excitement, but in the end he was grateful that today was the day. With the baby on the way it just felt silly to spend their time apart from each other in different houses. Steve was just ready to have his lady with him, and to know that she was safe.
Not that Steve didn't think she couldn't take care of herself, but he worried.
He was at her house bright, and early, ready to tackle whatever she needed moved. It wasn't as if he needed the help lifting things, the serum had finally evened out enough to where his strength was pretty constant. He loaded another box onto the truck, and then headed back into her place. "So what bigger stuff are you taking?" He asked, raising a brow over at her.
“Well, I like my couch and chair. It depends on what you think we need. I can probably sell a majority of this or give it away,” she wouldn’t mind donating some of it to people in need either. It felt so strange to be moving in with someone, especially Steve Rogers, but they had come a long lay. The hand laying on her bulging stomach certainly signified that. Steve was doing the majority of the heavy lifting and she had been packing as much as she could.
She looked over at him and smiled. Things had changed since he dreamt of crashing his plane, leaving her alone, and then waking up 90 years later. Since he now understood what S.H.I.E.L.D. was she had finally told him what she actually did for work. He took it surprisingly well and she was going to work on recruiting him eventually, but for now they had far more important matters to take care of. That hand absentmindedly rubbed her stomach and a look of surprise appeared on her face when she felt something unexpected, “Oof, I think little Freedom is moving or something.”
Steve glanced at the furniture that she wanted to take and he gave a nod. He could manage that easily, "Well I've been meaning to replace the tables that are in the living room, and your dining room table is bigger and nicer than the one I have." He was honestly fine with anything she wanted to take with her, Steve wouldn't complain one little bit about having to move anything.
He'd been surprised by the turn in his dreams, of how things had ended up for them, but he was glad that they were lucky enough to get their happy ending here. He'd started to move to get the couch when Peggy spoke. Glancing over at her, a large smile tugged up the corners of her lips. "Oh yeah?" Steve turned away from the couch, and moved toward her instead. Gently he placed a hand on her stomach to see if it was possible for him to feel Freedom move.
“Taking the table sounds reasonable. I think I’m pretty much open for taking whatever you want. We could put my bed set in the guest room and donate Bucky’s if he left his behind,” Peggy wasn’t quite sure if he had or not. She hadn’t done much investigating into Bucky’s old room at Steve’s apartment, “We can always make a second trip and look at what we’ve got at your place and decide if any of my stuff would be better.”
A smile appeared on her face when he came over to touch her stomach and try to feel the baby moving, “I’m not sure if you will be able to feel it or not. It felt like a weird flutter - almost like gas, which sounds gross, but it’s true. I think it’ll be a couple more weeks until the kicking gets stronger. I can’t wait until we have that appointment later this week to find out the gender.” She felt a little strange just calling Freedom by a neutral term for now.
"Sounds good, I figure we'll be making a couple of trips, and we'll go from there." Steve didn't mind, it wasn't as if the drive was that bad or too long from her place to his house. "The bed that's in Buck's room is one I bought from Goodwill. He...didn't have a lot when he moved in with me." Steve lifted a shoulder, and then took in a deep breath. "He's gotten all of his stuff out, well, as far as I know. So everything in the house is mine." He'd only purchased what he'd needed at the time, and well, he was open to bringing whatever she wanted.
"No, that makes sense to me. At least, that's what I've read online too." He chuckled softly. Steve liked to keep up to date on what was going on with their little one and Peggy. "Yeah, but still, I don't want to miss it." His hand shifted from her belly, arms wrapping around her. "I can't either, then we get to pick out a name." He had a few ideas that he wanted to put on the table, and he was sure that Peggy had some of her own. Steve was confident that they could come up with something together though.
“Makes sense,” Peggy pointed out with a smile. Things were starting to get figured out and everything that didn’t come over to his place would end up being donated most likely. They would have a fully furnished place to live once the trips were settled and boxes unpacked, “I think we’ll be fine. We can bring some of the major stuff over on this first trip and then see what else I’ve got that you might want.”
“You won’t miss it, you’ll be there before me probably,” Peggy pointed out with a laugh as she leaned up lightly and gave him a kiss, “Oh god, I haven’t even really thought much about names. Should we buy a book? I don’t want to name my kid Apple or Saint or something celebrity trendy.” That was a big decision, sure the kid could change it in 18 years, but they were going to be stuck with whatever name they picked out for at least a while.
"Sounds like a good plan to me." That way they could get the heavy lifting out of the way, or rather, he could get it out of the way. Not that it really bothered him that much, but still moving was an exhausting experience. It was coming together, and Steve had no doubt that things would be perfectly fine once they got everything settled. Of course, he knew that things would be different once they were living together, they'd have to get used to having each other around all the time, but it would be worth it in the end.
Laughing, Steve gave a shrug of one shoulder before kissing her back. "What can I say? I like being prepared." He teased with a wink and then tipped his head to the side. "A book might not be a bad idea. Natasha asked if her name was on the table if it was a girl." His brows furrowed slightly, "Yeah, no. I'm all for not going with something trendy like that. I'm all for something simple, and normal."
“Okay,” Peggy huffed as she moved a fairly heavy box over to the door. It wasn’t too much, so she wasn’t worried, but she was doing her best to limit herself because Steve worried. Hell, she worried as well, and she didn’t want anything to happen to Baby Freedom if it was completely preventable, “I think that’s it for now. Should we head over to your place and put some of this in there and then come back?”
There was a winkle of her nose in jest as she playfully stuck her tongue out at him, “Overachiever, Rogers. And Natasha or some variation of it can be on the table. I think we’ll be able to find a simple name for our baby. It might just take some time and a few variations of it.” She had been thinking about making sure Steve’s mother was honored in the name somehow and Natasha’s name wasn’t awful. They would have to look over names and figure it out eventually.
Steve watched her carefully, although he wasn't about to say anything about her lifting stuff. He knew she knew her limits, and that she wouldn't push them. He glanced around her place, giving a small nod. "Yes, that sounds like a good idea. Maybe grab something to eat or at least to drink on the way back over there." That also sounded like a good idea to him. He wasn't planning on cooking that night, but he would any other night that she wanted him to.
"It's one of the many things you love about me." He teased her with a grin, and a wink. "I think she'd appreciate that." He would be fine with figuring out some variation of Natasha, and then another name. Steve was excited about going through that process with Peggy, heck, he was just excited in general about the whole thing. "Come on, let's go home, and we'll get things figured out."
“I do love quite a few things about you, unfortunately,” she teased him back with a smile. Yeah, it was definitely a good thing that the two of them were together in this world. This was far better than the Dreams at this point. She rubbed her small stomach and looked over at him when he said the word home. She had to take a couple deep breaths to keep the hormones at bay, “Home. I love the way that sounds. Let’s get moving now before I start crying because no one wants that.”
A smile pulled up the corners of his lips, and he moved over to her to wrap an arm around her shoulders. "Yeah, I'd hate for that to happen," Leaning over he kissed her temple, and then led the way to the car. It was the first step in their journey together, and he was grateful to get to take it with Peggy.
