Where: In Town
What: A Double Date
Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly
Status: Complete
Neither Damian or Simon had ever been on a real double date so when their respective girlfriends suggested it, they had both been a little weary, but had agreed. When Damian was dating Alyssa the only other people they usually hung out with were Bran and Arya and since they were brother and sister it had always just been hanging out with friends and Simon’s last double date had been with Magnus and Alec and it hadn’t really been a date, because they had gone out demon hunting, which wasn’t exactly romantic or anything like that.
So actually going out on a real date with another couple was somewhat new to both of them. The plan turned out to be going to the movies then grabbing something to eat. The movie theater they had decided to go to was close to a couple places they could eat so once the movie was over they started walking towards the closest places.
Izzy was excited, unlike Simon she thought their double date with Magnus and Alec had gone brilliantly and was looking forward to seeing what this one brought. So far it had been good, they’d all chatted away before the movie and it had actually been a good film too. Now as they made their way to get food Izzy had her arm around Simon’s waist while his was around her shoulders.
Celaena loved meeting people, so a double date didn’t really faze her. She was with her boyfriend and her best friend and she would just have to get to know Simon. Mirroring Izzy and Simon’s position as the walked, except with her hand tucked in Damian’s backpocket, ostensibly to keep her fingers warm, but actually to grope his shapely ass since she’d mostly had to keep her hands to herself in the theatre. “So Simon, what did you think of the movie? Was it your kind of genre?” she asked.
While Simon liked hanging out with Alec and Magnus, he had to admit, he was enjoying this double date a lot more. So far there had been no demons attacking and he hoped it stayed that way, despite the fact that a demon attacking couldn’t actually hurt him and from what he knew of Damian and Celaena, they could both hold their own in a demon fight. Either way, he hoped there were no demons.
At Celaena’s question, he glanced over at her, “I liked it. Sci-fi is usually my main genre, so I’ll see most sci-fi movies.”
Damian didn’t really get the chance to go to too many movies so this had been a nice idea as well. Usually, since he and Celaena had to work their dates around her shows and rehearsals and his classes and patrolling, when they did watch movies, it was usually at his place so they weren’t exactly the most recent releases. “I thought it was pretty good too. Definitely one you wanna see in the theater first.”
Even Izzy had to agree with that, “It was much better than I thought it was going to be” she admitted, “I’m a fairly recent sci-fi convert thanks to Simon” And it wasn’t a bad thing, she hadn’t realised that some films and books in that genre had really good storylines. It was something they could enjoy together which was nice too.
Celaena grinned as everyone talked about the film. “I’ve got to admit I’ve never been much of a fan, but I’m glad we came. I really enjoyed it,” she smiled up at Damian, giving his ass a little squeeze as she did. “So where are we heading to eat then guys?”
“Cel…” It wasn’t that Damian minded when his girlfriend squeezed his ass, but they were out in public, with another couple, so he didn’t think it was right. At least not with anyone else around. He didn’t want anyone else to feel uncomfortable around them.
“Well, there’s a restaurant down this way that’s pretty good.” At least it had been when Simon could actually eat the food there. He had hoped that Izzy had explained his situation to Celaena so that it wouldn’t be weird when he didn’t order anything.
Izzy grinned when Damian told Celaena off, not that she thought it would make much difference to her friend. Luckily Izzy had told Cel about Simon’s situation though whether she’d informed Damian she wasn’t sure. Leaning into Simon a little she gave him a smile and a squeeze, she felt bad for him whenever she had to eat when he was around. It never felt fair.
Celaena grinned wickedly at him, honestly she wasn’t sure that anyone saw, but she loved to tease him. She’d given Damian a warning about Simon not eating and to not draw attention but they were having a great evening so far and it wouldn’t be spoiled by a silly little thing as that. “Lead the way Simon, we trust you,” she grinned across at him. “I assume you’ve been here before?” she asked curiously.
Damian may not have met any of the vampires that lived in Orange County, as a result of the dreams, but he was well aware that they existed so it had been interesting to hear that Simon was one of them. One thing that he knew about the various vampires that lived in the OC was that not all of them were the same. He’d seen some talk on Valarnet about eating regular food and then there were ones like Simon who apparently couldn’t digest human food. It was extremely interesting and Damian wanted to inquire more about it, but he had told Celaena that he wouldn’t bring it up first because he didn’t want Simon or anyone to feel awkward.
“Yeah, I’ve been there a couple of times. Mostly right after I moved here,” The good thing about the restaurant was that they had coffee, which Simon had managed to train his stomach to accept. He knew that there were other vampires in their dream world who had done the same with food to give off the appearance that they were human, but most of the time they had to throw it up later, because their stomach’s simply wouldn’t digest it. Eating was probably the main thing that Simon missed about being human. “I think you guys will enjoy it.”
“I’m sure we will after all you have excellent taste” Izzy said, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek with a smile. Izzy had to admit if she had one wish it would be that Simon could eat again. There was something special about eating together - and letting Simon feed on her wasn’t the same. Not that he did anyway, not since he’d first turned anyway.
“So any other recommendations for the cinema Simon? You sound like someone who would know,” Celaena asked across her boyfriend before resting her head on his shoulder contentedly while they walked.
Simon smiled at Izzy and squeezed her shoulder where his hand rested then he glanced over at Celaena and Damian, “How much time do you have? I have a lot of recommendations, so it’d probably be better if I sent you a list otherwise we’ll be talking about movies for the rest of the night.” Other than music, Simon was very much a movie buff. Any form of pop culture really, which also included television.
“I could use a list of movies. I never really know what to watch,” Damian said as they continued walking, only stopping when Simon stopped them and pulled the door of a diner open. “I don’t really have a DVD collection or anything.” Most of the movies Damian had seen over the last couple of years had been with Alyssa when he’d lived at her house.
“Simon has an incredible collection” Izzy told Damian, “He’s definitely the man to help you” She kind of liked that about him, it was nice. Sliding into a booth they were handed menus and told their waitress would be with them shortly.
“Cool! We’ll have to do a movie night or something,” Celaena said excitedly as they all sat down. Granted she wasn’t normally one to sit down and do nothing for long periods of time, but she enjoyed movies so she could manage it for some time.
Damian took the menu and nodded in agreement, “Maybe we can do it at my place one night.” He figured since he had his own place and he was the only one who lived there, it might be a better place for them to have a movie night, “Weekends are usually good for me.”
“I’ll have to see what the band’s schedule is like so I can see what night works best, but that’d be cool.” And in Simon’s case having a movie night at someone else’s place was probably for the best since he did have his bandmates around the apartment.
The Institute was large enough to house everybody but Izzy could never guarantee who would be there at any one time. While she, Clary and Jace lived there Will, Jem and Tessa came around to use the training room too. And there were various visitors too. “Works for me” she agreed, her bakery shifts were early and they were closed by late afternoon so evenings were actually the best time for Izzy.
“I’m so excited!” Celaena clapped her hands and bounced in her seat at the prospect. “This is going to be great!”
