Who: Samantha Harris and Hannah Washington What: Hanging out When: Early October Where: Their Apartment Rating/Warnings: Low/The feels are real tho Status: Complete
With school back in full swing, Sam kept trying to divide her time between school work, spending time with Mike, work and her friends. It was a fine balancing act, and Sam thought she was doing an okay job of things. Okay definitely being the key word there. Sam was optimistic though, nothing weird - knock on wood - had happened yet so she'd take it.
With her work out of the way, Sam emerged from her room looking tired and not as put together as she normally looked. Oh well, it didn't matter, the only other person that was there was Hannah and well, she was sure her best friend would understand. Stifling a yawn behind her hand, Sam grinned over at Hannah as she passed. "You doing work, or taking a break?" She asked as she kept walking toward the kitchen and to the Keurig.
Turning it on, Sam waited on it to heat the water before adding her coffee and then placed her favorite mug on the stand. "I just finished...god, I don't even know how much stuff." She rubbed a hand over her face, "Though the good news is I'm done for the day!"
Hannah couldn’t say that she was doing any less work. She felt like most of her waking hours were filled with either work, homework, or school. She was exhausted most of the time. She still tried to spend time with people and talk to Josh (which usually happened even if she was trying to sleep). It was just more difficult now that school was in session now.
When Sam walked into the room, she was in the middle of staring blankly at her books and notes. So the sound of Sam’s voice was the only thing that pulled her out of her lack of sensible thoughts. “I think I’m taking a break,” she said after a moment. “Mostly because I’m trying to do work and nothing’s happening, so it’s probably time to take a break.”
She stood up slowly from her place curled up in front of the coffee table and made her way into the kitchen, grabbing her own coffee mug. “I think I need three cups of coffee and two naps. That is probably the only way to get me through the rest of this.” There was a pause. “I say as if my assignments are actually due tomorrow and I’m not getting ahead of myself.”
"Breaks are always good." She responded from the kitchen, and then took in a deep breath as she leaned against the counter. Laughing, Sam gave a nod. "Yeah, I know what you mean. We're gluttons for punishment aren't we?" Sam was also working on stuff that wasn't due the next day, or even the day after that. She just wanted to stay ahead of the curve and not worry about it since anything could happen in the OC.
Once her coffee was finished, Sam pulled the reusable pod out, dumping its contents into the trash before placing it down for Hannah to use. Sam picked her cup up, bringing it up to her nose to breathe in deeply. "Naps are good, although I'm not too sure if my dreams have ended now or not. I swear, I think they have then I get hit with more." She sighed, moving over to the sink to add a little cold water to her coffee to cool it down enough for her to finally take a sip.
Hannah rubbed her eyes as she made her way into the kitchen. “If I die from overworking myself, promise to play my funeral playlist the whole time.” She didn’t actually have one made up, but it sounded like the sort of thing to say. “Only the most somber and rainy-day sounding music will do. Also you’ll need to have a bonfire party where you set all my school assignments on fire and dance around it.”
She frowned when Sam mentioned the dreams. She only had her own stupidity to deal with in the dreams, but Sam had a lot of other things. “Did you have any other dreams recently or are you just waiting for more?” She filled the pod carefully before placing her cup underneath and making sure the pod sat in properly. Then she shut the top of the machine and pressed the button.
Brows furrowing, Sam cast a glance over in Hannah's direction. "I didn't know you had one, but I'll definitely keep it in mind. I will most definitely burn all of your school work, and we'll have a bonfire in remembrance of you." It was easy to kid out here about things, but Sam knew how dark the dreams were going to turn for Hannah eventually. She felt guilt creeping up on her again, coiling tight around her stomach.
Letting out a long breath, Sam took a ginger sip of her coffee. She nodded, "I have. They'd stopped for a little bit, but…" She shook her head, "They came back, this time with a different...ending." She cleared her throat, and took another sip of her coffee and moved to find a tin of cookies she'd made. There was one that held vegan options, and another that were normal. She slid one tin down to the end of the island for Hannah, and then took a cookie out of her own tin.
“I don't really, but it seemed like the thing to say.” She didn't really know everything about what was about to happen in her dreams, but if she had, she might not have made the joke. “But good. My school work deserves to burn.”
Hannah’s brow furrowed slightly. “I’m sorry,” she replied, moving to reach over to comfort her when Sam started to search for the cookie tins. She pulled her hand back and took the tin of cookies before opening it and taking out a cookie. After she got it, she moved a little closer to Sam and leaned against her lightly. “You know I love you, right?”
"I think that in the grand scheme of things we should probably both make one cause school work is going to be our deaths." Okay, maybe that was stretching the truth, but there were days like today when Sam felt as if her brain was going to explode.
Letting out a sigh, Sam shifted slightly in her seat. The guilt was still eating away at her, and really she knew that none what happened in the dreams was her fault, but it still felt like it was. "I know you do." She leaned over as well, a small smile on her face. "And I love you too. Don't forget that when you dream, okay?"
Hannah let out a small laugh. “That’s probably true.” She didn’t mind that it was a little overdramatic. Sometimes being overdramatic was a part of school. Especially when there was always so much homework. The papers almost always seemed to be ridiculously long and almost always due around the same time.
The addition after Sam said she loved her made Hannah arch an eyebrow. “How can I forget that in or out of the dreams? I know you love me.” She smiled a little, moving to give her a quick, one armed hug. “We’ll always be best friends and I’ll never forget that you love me.” No matter what bad stuff happened in the dreams, she could tell from the way that Sam said it that it was a serious concern, too.
A half smile tugged up one corner of Sam's lips. It was nice to be able to joke a little bit, even if it was sort of a morbid topic in a way. Still, she felt like her brain was mush or something.
"I don't know, but it's one of the things that keeps me up at night." She glanced over at Hannah, moving to return the one armed hug. "Good, cause I won't let you forget it either." Sam would make sure that Hannah knew she loved her, especially when everything really bad started happening.
Hannah’s expression grew concerned. Did Sam really stay up nights wondering if she was going to forget that Sam loved her. “Well, you don’t have to stay up on my account. I couldn’t forget if I tried.” She leaned against Sam and smiled up at her. “You’re stuck with me. So you should probably get used to it.”
