Who: Tessa Gray, Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs When: Backdated: Sunday, November 13th. Afternoon Where: New York City. Statue of Liberty What: Tessa shows her boys around her city Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly Status: Complete
Tessa had had a wonderful time at the wedding of Alec and Magnus, but now the ceremony was over, she had promised to show her boys around New York somewhat. They’d started the day by a walk around central park in the morning and now she had led them to the statue of Liberty where there were currently queueing to go up to the top. “So, what do you guys think of New York so far?” she asked with a bright smile.
“I like it” Will declared, “Couldn’t live here, too busy but to visit it’s great” The wedding had been great of course but there was never anything better than spending time with Jem and Tessa. And with Tessa playing tour guide it was pretty much perfect. “I can see why people love central park so much, it really is a little bit of nature in a busy city” he added, some parts of it you completely forgot where you were.
“Parts of it remind me of England, but at the same time it’s completely different,” Jem had also been enjoying their personal tour of New York City. Central Park had been so much more than he’d ever imagined it to be from things he’d seen on TV and was sure that they hadn’t even seen it all. They would definitely need to come back to New York again some other time. Jem had also enjoyed the ferry ride to that Statue of Liberty and was looking forward to heading up to the torch. “So, what is next on our itinerary after this?” He asked, smirking over at Tessa to see what else she had planned for them.
“I’m glad you’re enjoying it, it’s quite a different city from London and LA,” Tessa smiled at the both. “Well, I was thinking that we could indulge in some hot dogs down by the river. I know this great little spot that looks out over the Brooklyn Bridge which I think you’ll love,” she told them enthusiastically. “Of course before that we could visit the ground zero memorial if you’d like?” she offered.
Will nodded, “All that sounds like a good plan to me” Really anything Tessa wanted to show them was great, this was her city and he liked seeing her play tour guide. It made him want to take them to Wales even more, to show them the small town he grew up in and, of course, introduce them to his family. “I like the sound of hotdogs”
Jem didn’t have to eat anymore since he was a Silent Brother, but he still could as opposed to if he were a vampire from their dream world so he was also onboard for whatever Tessa had planned, “That sounds fine to me as well.” It didn’t take long before they were making their way up towards the torch, “Have you been here before or was this your first time?” Jem had heard from some people that the Statue of Liberty was much more a tourist thing than something residents of New York did.
“Nope, this is my first time too. You know how it is ,” Tessa shrugged as she got her phone out and ready to take pictures. She wanted to get some pictures of them all at the top looking over the city. “If you live in a place you don’t really make time for the tourist attractions. They’re more of a menace adding to the traffic and queues for everything in the city,” she smiled. “But now, I’m with tourists so it’s completely legitimate and fun,” she grinned and kissed them both on the cheeks. “Speaking of...did you guys have anything you wanted to look at while we’re here?”
Will had his phone out too, it had become permanently attached to his hand while they played tourist. He was having a great time. Grinning when she kissed them both he said “Oh there's like a huge bookstore somewhere, The Strand I think. I'd quite like to take a look there. Though I know it won't be as good as yours of course” he added with a wink for Tessa.
“I know what you mean. There are quite a few tourist spots back home that I’ve never been to.” Jem was the only one of the three without his phone out, because he knew that Will and Tessa were taking enough pictures for the three of them and if he really wanted, he would simply ask them to send him specific pictures later on, “Even when my mother’s family would come to visit, most of the time I was too busy reading or doing school work to go with them to those things.”
“You’re such a charmer,” Tessa winked at Will and nudged him with her arm. “Of course we can go to the bookstore,” she grinned. “Then we’ll have to plan some more trips for the next few years then, play the tourists in other countries,” she smiled at Jem. Trips to both Jem and Will’s countries of birth sounded wonderful and with the store doing more successfully these days, perhaps they could afford a big vacation next year.
“Oh I don’t know about that” Will teased, “I don’t want to let my family arm you with all the embarrassing stories they’d no doubt tell you. I’d never get away with anything again” he smirked, obviously kidding. He would love to introduce them both to his family.
Jem laughed, shaking his head, “I for one would love to hear more embarrassing stories about you, William.” Jem had never been to Wales, but he knew it wasn’t too far from where his parents lived in England, so if they ever made plans to go to Wales, they would definitely have to plan to go to England as well. For now though, he was simply going to enjoy the rest of their time in New York with Tessa as their guide.
