Elphaba had dragged herself away from the dinner table and collapsed on the couch after eating a regrettable amount of food for Thanksgiving. “I think I’m dying. If anyone calls for me, I’m not in, I honestly don’t think I can move,” she rolled her head against the back of the couch to look at Luthien and grinned up at her wife.
Luthien sank down next to her, holding her stomach and making an exaggerated moan. “It was worth it, was it not? And we’ll have leftovers for a week.” It was a good thing she liked turkey and ham. Gently, she took Elphaba’s hand and kissed her fingers. “I’m not looking forward to cleaning up, but that can wait.”
“A week? I was thinking a month!” Elphaba grinned at Luthien as she watched her wife kiss her fingers. “What did you think Dior? Did you enjoy Thanksgiving?” she asked as the little boy walked up to the couch.
Laughing, Luthien put her arm around Elphie. She always enjoyed a good feast, especially small intimate ones.
Dior crawled up and laid down next to Luthien. “I think I’m gonna puke.” Spoke in the way that only a child could make sound positive.
Elphaba grinned at the little boy as he laid himself out on the couch. She couldn’t help but imagine Mae older and enjoying her first proper Thanksgiving, laid out like Dior was. “Hmm, well at least make sure you don’t get any on the couch. I don’t have the energy to clean it right now,” she joked, gently stroking her hair through the little boy’s hair.
“I’ll be good,” he promised, shifting around so he was laying on Elphaba.
Luthien chuckled, smiling in contentment at the little scene. Her family was growing and perfect, her career was doing well. She made people smile and feel with her music. “I could not ask for a better life.”
Mae apparently took that as her cue to remind them both that she was still in the picture, ruining sleep and being adorable. Elphaba groaned and looked over at Luthien. “She’ll want her feed,” she sighed and closed her eyes. “I volunteer you go, I'm already in feeding position,” she joked.
Luthien haphazardly moved her hand towards the baby, as if she could summon her with her mind. “No, i cannot do it.”
“I’ll get her!” Dior slipped off the couch.
Elphaba laughed at Luthien antics, then looked at her in concern as Dior started to head off. “Is he going to be able to lift her out of the cot?” she frowned. She didn't think he’d done it before without one of them being there to assist.
Luthien mused on it a moment, then stroked Elphaba’s hair. “I’ll get up and stay close.” She wanted Dior to be able to do this kind of thing, but she wanted to be close in case something happened. She could move preternaturally fast if need be.
She got up and made her way to the door, watching closely as Dior reached into the crib. He held Mae exactly as he’d been shown, careful to support her head, and proudly carried her to his other mama. Luthien’s face was filled with pride.
Elphaba murmured a thank you to Luthien as her wife got up and followed the boy. She wanted Dior to be able to help too but he was still little and she would hate for anything to happen that made him feel bad. Seeing his proud little face as he returned was a treat and she grinned at him as he carefully passed Mae over. “Thank you Dior, good job,” she said, settling the baby against herself to feed and covering them both with the nursing blanket. “Did you want to choose a film for us all to watch?” she asked.
"Yes sweet-heart. Pick whatever movie you want." Anything but Big Hero 6, she thought. She was sick to death of Big Hero 6. Luckily for Luthien, Dior picked the one with the bunny cop, and Luthien settled back onto the couch. "Good choice!"
“Great choice!” Elphaba agreed, sharing a grin with Luthien as she settled back on the couch next to her. ‘Thank god’, she mouthed at her while Dior busied himself putting the dvd in.
‘I know’ Luthien mouthed back. She reached over and stroked Elphaba’s cheek with two fingers. “This night could not be any better. I’m… so grateful, for so much.”
Elphaba turned her face into Luthien’s hand, enjoying the sweet caress. “Same here, thank you for being here, for loving me,” she told Luthien quietly.
“Always,” Luthien promised. She kept her fingers there, exploring Elphie’s cheek and the contours of her face.
“Kiss me?” Elphaba asked quietly. She was loathe to disturb the baby currently resting against her chest by moving just yet.
She chuckled, and leaned over to kiss her. Dior made a disgusted sound, and it made Luthien laugh against Elphaba’s lips. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Elphaba replied with a grin before pulling back to look at Dior. “And I love you too,” she told him, gesturing for him to come closer and ruffling his hair when he did. “Come sit up here,” she patted the small space between herself and Luthien.
Dior crawled up into the couch between them. He liked this. He loved both his moms and his little sister and this was the life. Even better, Christmas was coming. ….it made him think of something. “Will Mae like Christmas?”
“I'm sure she will Dior, but she's very young so she may not know what is happening or remember it, but we'll make sure it's special. For both of you,” Elphaba reassured him, stroking his hair gently.
Luthien smiled, closing her eyes for a moment to bask in their warmth. “We’ll take plenty of pictures so that we can look back. How does that sound?”
“Sounds perfect!” Dior yawned, but he was determined to stay awake through the movie. But determination isn’t everything.
