Who: Audrey and Hazel What: A Sleepover When: Sometime in October Where: Hazel's home Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Hazel didn’t usually have friends over. At least not when it came to sleepovers, but she decided to try something new. Plus, she had a lot of movies to catch up on, so a sleepover was probably the best way to go about it. Plus, she was pretty sure it made her dad feel like she was a little bit more of a normal kid. It also made her feel a bit more like a normal kid, too. But she also felt a little awkward.
Cerberus had seen fit to come and curl himself up in her lap, which she wasn’t really bothered by any more than she was by the mornings when she woke up with him sleeping on her face. “So what movies did you have in mind?”
It had admittedly been a while since Audrey had spent the night at anyone's home. Work had kept her busy, but this was her weekend off. Thank God for that. Audrey had settled in over at Hazel's house, and she'd just put her phone away after changing into a pair of pajama pants when Hazel posed her question.
"I'm glad you asked." She grinned over at her, and moved to pull a few DVDs and Blu-Rays from her bag. There was nothing remotely scary in there, Audrey had her fill of scary from her dreams, but that was another story for another night. "I've got some classics here. More comedy than anything else. I didn't feel like horror or drama tonight." She plopped down beside Hazel, laying out a few selections. There were some John Hughes movies, Mel Brooks, and some newer movies like Shaun of the Dead. To Audrey that last one didn't actually count as a horror movie. "So pick out whatever you'd like to start off with and we'll go from there."
Hazel glanced over at the movie collection, not all that bothered by the idea of not having anything scary or overly dramatic. Her dreams were dramatic enough without adding to them. She just wanted something simple. She had no idea what most of these movies were, though. Being from a family where your dad was a movie director and not knowing things about movies made her feel a little ridiculous. She didn’t even know who Jabba the Hutt was...which was apparently a big deal. Her mom hadn’t been big on movies, but that was probably because she’d been too busy doing other things with her money.
“Um.” Which was very helpful, she was aware of it. “I guess we can start wiiiith…” She closed her eyes and picked one up, which apparently was Shaun of the Dead. “Um. This dead guy one?” She wasn’t really sure what it was about, but if it had Dead in the title, she assumed it was about a guy that was dead.
While Audrey did enjoy a good horror movie, she was feeling a bit...well not in the mood. Her dreams were proving to be enough of one for her at the moment, and she had this feeling that they would only get worse as time went on. At least, that was the feeling she was getting, she had no idea what was going to happen really.
"Good choice. Part of the Cornetto Trilogy, even though the films don't have anything to do with each other and At Worlds End wasn't as good as the first two." She laughed softly as she picked up the movie, "It does have zombies, but it's not scary or anything. A little gory but it's not bad." Audrey didn't think that it was at least, and so she got up and put the movie in before settling back down beside Hazel. Reaching over, Audrey picked up the remote. "So how have things been going in your dreams?"
Hazel could understand not wanting to watch things that were like your dreams. Her dreams were enough that she had no real interest in watching anything regarding the gods. She knew everything that she needed to know for the most part. She remembered more the more that she dreamt. But things could have been worse both in and outside of the dreams.
“I’ll take your word for it. I’ve never seen that movie.” She looked at the movie case for a moment. That did explain the dead part of the title. Zombies. She wasn’t really that afraid of zombies, but then she’d never run into anything like a zombie either. “They’re okay. Percy and Frank and I haven’t really gotten past that guy, but I hope that we get to get out of there without much trouble. I don’t know how long it’s going to take to get to Alaska, but I’m still dreading it. Have you had any more dreams?”
The dreams were something that Audrey had believed to be a joke, something that they told newcomers to scare them or pull one over on them. It wasn't until she'd experienced them herself first hand that she became a full on believer, and now she was just waiting on the next dream to drop.
"You'll like it, I think." At least, Audrey believed that she would. Audrey shifted to get more comfortable in her seated position, and looked over at Hazel. Her brows furrowed slightly, and she gave a nod. "I'm sure you guys will make it, and be fine." Audrey hoped so anyway, for Hazel's sake. Giving a shake of her head, Audrey hit the play button on the remote and sat it off to the side. "No, I haven't. I keep waiting but who knows."
Hazel trusted Audrey’s judgment. At least when it came to movies. Almost anyone had to be better than her at knowing what movies were good and which weren’t. “Yeah. I hope so, too.” She had her doubts, though. She was going to free the god of death and she was supposed to be in the Underworld. Dead. Instead she was parading around and very much not dead. She decided against mentioning all of that, however. “I’m sure it’ll start up again soon. Hopefully it won’t be anything too bad, though.” She gave her what she hoped was a reassuring smile before turning her attention to the TV.
There was something about the way that Hazel said that she hoped so too that caused Audrey's brows to furrow. Really, she hoped that things would be fine, but who knew in this crazy world? Audrey definitely didn't, and she honestly believed that people were drinking some sort of kool-aid when she'd first joined the network. "I hope it's not, but I've got my doubts with the way things are going. Or at least, with how the first dream went." There were also things that Audrey knew that others did not, but that was neither here nor there. Instead of focusing on that, Audrey turned her attention to the television as well, watching the opening sequence with a small smile on her face.
It was hard to say with the dreams where anything would go. She wanted it to go well. She really did. But she wasn’t sure it was safe to put too much hope into a positive end result. She’d seen enough of what happened in her dreams to know happiness was certainly not a guarantee. She did hope that it would be better for Audrey. Even if they were both stuck in bad dreams. “Well, even if it’s bad, I’ll be here. That’s what friends are for.” She let her arm rest against Audrey’s, not sure if that would help or not, but sometimes just being close to someone made things a little less terrible.
Audrey gave Hazel a grateful smile at the small touch to her arm, and the words that she spoke. She leaned slightly against Hazel, "I know, and I'm here for you too." Audrey would do anything for her friends, here or in the dreams, and she knew that things would work themselves out in the end. Letting out a soft sigh, she turned her attention back to the movie, hoping that maybe for a little while they could forget about the worries of the real world and of the dream world and just be.
