Scott smiled as he stepped out of the jeep, patting it on the hood, then grinning and heading for the door. He held flowers in one hand, and a bag of things in the other, and he was bouncy. He had just gotten into town, and he felt like he was both nervous and bouncy.
He was finally here!
He wanted to say so much, and he had no idea what to say.
And so, with a slow breath, he raised a hand, put the flowers in the bag, and then knocked.
***
At the sound of knocking at her door, Allison hopped up from her seat on the couch and hurried over to answer. She quickly peeked out the peephole and opened the door with a big smile on her face.
“Hey!” She rushed in to give him a tight hug. It felt like he’d been gone for much longer than he actually had, but she supposed that’s just what missing someone felt like.
“Come on inside.” Allison stepped aside, holding the door open for him. Her eyes dropped to the bag and she spotted the flowers. “Are those for me?” She smiled up at him again.
***
Scott wrapped his arms around her, hugging her close, and inhaling her scent, then smiled as he let go. “God, you feel good.” He flushed, then followed her, in and noded. He set the bag down and pulled out the blue flowers, handing them over. They had just a touch of silvery sheen to them.
“Yeah. A present for a beautiful woman who i have missed, very much.”
***
She took the flowers, instinctively holding them up to her nose to take a sniff and smiled. “They’re beautiful.” Allison smiled and leaned in, giving him a kiss on the cheek. She’d wanted to give him a kiss on the lips, but wasn’t sure whether or not it was appropriate.
“I’ve missed you, too.” She smiled at him. “But you’re here now. Let’s enjoy it.” Her hand slipped into his and gave his a squeeze.
***
Scott grinned and smiled back, lifting the bag, and out of it a wrapped package. “This contains the actual present. The flowers were last minute.” He grinned at her as he held it out. Inside the package there was a large pajama t-shirt about two sizes two large for her, with a silver bow on it. And wrapped in that, at the middle, was a long thin box, which, when opened, contained a small necklace, with a silver bow and arrow on it.
***
Setting down the flowers, Allison took the package in her hands. She smiled at Scott looking slightly suspicious as she tore at the paper. “Hmmm… What could it be?” First, she saw the pajama t-shirt and laughed a little, looking pleased. “This looks comfy.” She set down the bigger box in order to pick up and open the long, thin box and gasped quietly. “Oh, wow…”
Allison looked up at Scott with a big smile. “Scott, these are perfect gifts.”
***
Scott blushed. “You really like them? I was hoping so. I saw them at a shop for archery enthusiasts, which i went into because… I missed you.” He blushed more.
“And I couldn’t leave them behind, so I kept them under my bed until I realized not giving them to you, not being with you, sucked.”
He stepped close. “I love you, Allison, and there is nowhere I would rather be than with you.”
And he kissed her, slow, long, and passionately.
***
She nodded happily. “I really do.” His blushing only made her blush a little bit.
When he kissed her, she set the box down and her arms wrapped around his shoulders, pulling him close. Allison found herself kissing him back. There was nothing in the world she wanted to do more than kiss him right then at that moment.
***
Scott moaned softly into that kiss and held her close, hands pulling her against him. God, he had missed her. He held her close and kissed her, then just hugged her tight. He smiled softly close up, forehead against hers.
“Amazing woman. I missed you so much. Touching you, kissing you, seeing you… is like coming alive again.”
***
She snuggled up close to him in the hug, relishing the sensation of being close to him once again. This was what she’d missed most.
“You sure you want to be a vet?” She laughed playfully. “You could be a poet.” Allison grinned, kissing his jaw.
“I missed all of this. Being close to you, being held by you.”
***
Scott laughed. Then nodded. “I missed this too, most of all. Holding you tight. Being with you. “ He kissed her again.
“This is what I want to do the rest of my life.” He kissed her once more and hugged her close.
“Can we just… can we just do this tonight? Snuggling and kissing and maybe talking? Just holding each other. I mean… other things are high on my list… but tonight, I just want to hold you, remind myself of the most important thing I missed. Being close to you.”
He nodded.
***
That brought a grin to Allison’s face. She nodded. She would have been lying if she said that other things weren’t high on her list, as well, but snuggling sounded like a wonderful idea.
“That sounds perfect. You can tell me what you’ve been up to.” She’d reciprocate, of course, but in her mind her life had been pretty dull without having Scott around.
She took him by his hand and led him over to her couch. “C’mon, let’s sit.”
***
He followed her, and smiled. “I can do that.” And he started then, and talked to her, telling her of his time with his cousins, of things he hadn’t told others, and of his dream the instant he entered Orange County airspace.
