Who: Sarah and Judy
When: October
Where: The School Sarah works at
What: First time meeting
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete

Giving talks at schools was one of Judy's favorite parts of the job. It gave her an opportunity to show children that cops were the good guys, well most of them anyway, and hopefully she changed a few little minds about what they wanted to do when they grew up. At the very least she hoped that she showed them the kindness, and compassion that most cops she knew had.

In this day and age and with all of the reports on the news it was hard to think highly of cops, and Judy understood that.

She'd just arrived at the school, it was her day off, but still she thought it'd be nice to do something fun for the kids. This was a school that she hadn't visited yet, or maybe she had and it'd been awhile. Judy couldn't remember right off the top of her head, and so she paused for a moment, peeking into an office with a smile. "Hi, I'm Officer Judy Hopps, could you point me in the direction of the office?"

Looking up from the papers in front of her, Sarah smiled, “Hi, it’s the end of the corridor on the right but everybody is in a staff meeting at the moment” Or at least those who weren’t currently teaching a lesson anyway. “You can wait in here if you like” she offered, after all it was her office for one day a week so she figured that meant she could offer it up to someone. “I’m Sarah” she added, “School counselor”

"Oh," Judy's gave a small nod, lips pursing slightly. It would figure that she'd be there a little too early. Oh well, it was what it was. "Sure, that'd be great, thank you." Judy moved into the office, taking a quick glance around. "Nice to meet you, Sarah." She replied with a smile, "I'm just here to talk to the kids about being an officer, or at least one of the classes today."

“Oh yeah I remember being told about that. The meeting overran so they should be out any minute then I’m sure they’ll show you which class you’ll be talking to” Sarah said, “So was it a school talk that got you interested in being a police officer?” she asked curiously, she seemed enthusiastic and eager.

"That's fine. I might've been a little early too." A sheepish smile crossed Judy's features, and she gave a nod. "Yeah, there was an officer that came into our class when I was in elementary school one day and that was it. I've never wanted to do anything else." Judy truly did believe that she could make the world a better place, even if it was something small, that ripple would eventually affect the world. "So how long have you been a counselor here?"

“Almost a year now” Sarah said, surprising herself with how quickly the time had gone. It didn’t seem that long since she’d arrived here but it was over eighteen months now. “It can be tough but the rewarding moments outweigh that most of the time. I’m sure policing is similar”

A light smile ghosted over Judy's lips, and she nodded. "It is. There are days when I leave work wondering if what I'm doing is the right thing, but then I'm reminded of something that happened that day that made it all worth it." She loved her job though, and really tried not to let anything get her down. Sometimes, however, things did get to her. It would get to anyone really. "I think though that on the whole there are more good days than bad days. I'm sure it's the same with you here too."

“It is. And that is precisely the right thing to focus on. There will always be bad days but as long as the good outweigh them and you focus on the good things then you’ll do just fine” Sarah said, that was what she tried to do. Even helping one child made everything worth it, knowing she was making that difference. “I’m sure you inspire a lot of kids too, just like you were inspired” she added.

Judy nodded once again, "I think so too." It was nice to have someone that understood her position, and understood that the good came with the bad. In Judy's case, the good did outweigh the bad more often than not, but she'd seen some things on the force that made her question people in general. "I hope so. Even if it's just one that's what matters to me."

Sarah definitely understood that good came with the bad, after all her life had always been a mix of the both. Though since moving to the OC it had mostly been good which had been a refreshing change. “I am positive you do” she assured the girl, before noise started out in the hall, “Sounds like the meeting has kicked out”

A lopsided grin appeared on Judy's face, and she glanced over at the door at the sound. "Looks like." She gave a small nod, and took in a deep breath. "Thank you, Sarah. It was a pleasure meeting you." She gave the other woman a cordial nod of her head, "And I'll see you around I'm sure." With that Judy walked out of her office, excited to see the bright and shining faces of the kids and hope that maybe she could make some sort of difference.
