WHO: Allison Argent and Scott McCall WHAT: A phone call WHEN: Recently WARNINGS: None STATUS: Closed and Complete
Scott was staring at the phone for the longest time, before he finally had the courage to pick it up and dial her number. Allison Argent, the woman he had met in Orange County who had made him feel alive, and real and full of hope. And who had made him want, more than anything, to be a normal guy and have a normal life.
Of course, then he had started dreaming. Those… very vivid dreams. He didn’t remember all of them right now. But he did remember that he had begun to think it was bleeding into the real world, and that, plus stress from finances, school, and work, had been too much. He had taken a hiatus from everything and fled to visit cousins.
A few months later, he was still here, but now he was having dreams that told him an entirely different thing. That he missed Allison. That he loved her. And that he had been an idiot to leave her.
And so now, here he was, calling her, hoping she would actually be willing to talk, and that… maybe, well… if he took a trip back… she might be willing to see him.

Thinking about her Dreams meant that Allison was thinking about Scott. He was, after all, a huge part of her Dreams. More than that, he’d become a big part of her life. Now, though, he was gone and she missed him horribly. She’d realized that their breakup had been a big mistake.
She was making lunch, slicing a tomato when the phone rang. Allison set her knife aside and reached for the phone, pressing the button to answer it and holding it up to her ear without really glancing at the Caller ID.
“Hello?”
***
The sound of her voice brought all the emotions back and made his voice crack almost, and emotion was plain in it as he spoke, making himself speak, his voice a little hoarser, suddenly, from missing her. “Allison? Hey. It’s Scott.”
He swallowed, unsure really what to say, and he felt like he was making it worse by not knowing. He swallowed again and spoke, softly. “Ah, is this a good time to talk?”
***
Her jaw dropped at the sound of his voice. There was a second’s pause as she tried to figure out what to say. “Hey, Scott. Yeah, it’s a fine time to talk.”
Holding the phone between her shoulder and chin, Allison got a plastic bag for the tomato and put it back into the fridge. Her sandwich could wait to be eaten. “What did you want to talk about?”
***
“I ah… miss you and…”
He cleared his throat, then talked fast, before he could chicken out. “I was thinking of moving back into town to go back to school, and I was wondering if I might possibly get you to go to dinner with me.” He swallowed then held his breath staring at the room he was in and hoping she had missed him even a little bit
***
Allison put her free hand to her mouth for a moment. It was like they’d been thinking the exact same thing at the exact same moment. In the Dreams she’d said she didn’t believe in fate, but now she was wondering.
“Yeah, sure, I’d like to go to dinner with you.” She paused. “I miss you, too.”
***
“You do? Really? I mean… cool. I mean… I’m glad.” He was blushing as he spoke, facepalming. “IN that case, I’ll be back in town in about a week so… maybe I can call you again when I get into town?” Yep. It was happening, he was going back.
Just hearing her voice had his heart pounding.
***
She couldn’t help but laugh a little bit. Scott was exactly as she remembered him and it brought a smile to her face. Yes, she still loved him. That much was certain.
“Sure, call me then.” Allison bit her lip. Why was she so nervous talking over the phone? It was just Scott. It was almost like they were starting all over again, like it was a first meeting.
***
“How, ah, how have you been? What’ve you been up to?” He felt nervous, and was blushing and grinning and couldn’t stop, didn’t want to stop, and all of a sudden, he wanted to be there now.
Man. He loved her. How could he ever have not wanted to win her back? Well... her missing him was hopeful, so he was going to go back there and win her back, and hopeful she could come to love him again. He could hope.
He might even pray.
He grinned wide.
Yes!
***
“I’ve been okay. You know, working at the gym. It’s been kind of boring.” She paused a second. “Stiles left without an explanation, so Lydia’s kind of been sad.” Allison had been sad, too, but she couldn’t exactly outright own up to that. What was she going to say? That she’d been a mess since he’d left? It wasn’t exactly what she’d been taught by her mother that strong women do.
“What about you? What have you been up to?”
***
“I’ve ah…” Been a complete loser staring at walls since we split and I left and have nothing really to show for it. “have been working on getting better at running, and helped treat a dog here, and… you know, keeping busy.”
Oh God, he was such a terrible liar. “Truthfully, I’ve been completely bored, and utterly… losing it.”
***
Allison let out a sigh. “Me too, me too.” She shook her head. “I feel like something’s missing without you here. I mean, that’s obvious, right? Because you’re not here. It’s bigger than that, though.”
She frowned. She didn’t want to seem too desperate and scare him off, but it didn’t sound like she was going to.
***
“I feel the same. Like I really messed up the best thing in my life. I mean… we both have other things going on and all, but… somehow this feels important. You are important to me.” He hesitated, then spoke softly. “I love you, Allison, and I never should have left.”
And there it was.
***
Her heart felt like it skipped a beat. Wow. “I… I love you, too.” She responded quietly. It was hard for her to believe that she was saying all of it. Everything she said was true, of course, but she didn’t think that she would spill all of the details right away.
***
Scott smiled softly as he rested his head on the wall he was standing . Wow. She said it. “That is amazing.” He spoke softly. “I’ve never been so glad to hear anything in my life.”
He swallowed, then smiled as he stood.
“IN that case… I can be there in two days.”
***
She let out a happy laugh, then putting her hand over her mouth. Allison couldn’t believe it. Things were finally turning around. Maybe they’d be happy together again. No, she didn’t need a guy to get by, but having Scott around made the world a brighter place and she was looking forward to seeing it again.
“I can’t wait.”
***
“Me either.” Scott smiled softly, then rubbed his face. “I even have a present for you.” He chuckled as he moved around his place, looking at what he would need to pack.
“I never stopped thinking of you.”
***
“You’ve been on my mind constantly.” She confessed, smiling a little sadly this time. “I’m just glad you’ll be coming back. I’ve missed you and I think everyone else has missed you, too.” Allison hadn’t asked her friends, though. She’d had her own feelings to keep herself busy.
***
“Well, I’m glad to hear it. Maybe we can meet when i get there? I can come over to your place? And we can talk?”
He was hopeful. He had ideas, see.
***
Even though he couldn’t see, she nodded. “Yeah, absolutely.” She made a mental note to clean up a little bit. “I could order some takeout for us, too.” Sharing a meal might be nice, after all this time.
***
“Sounds perfect to me. And Allison? Thank you. See you in two days.”
Scott felt his heart pounding and his grin wide. And he couldn’t wait to get there.
