It’s definitely something more girls should be able to embrace.
Who: Asami and Bo
What: Job interview
Where: Future Industries
When: Recently
Status: complete
Rating: PG

Despite the meeting being informal, Bo had still more or less torn her closet apart for something appropriate to wear. Almost all of her tops were low cut, and she didn’t want to show off too much cleavage. She’d made a mess in the bedroom before finding a dark blue shirt that wasn’t as low cut as most of hers, so she put that on with her black pants and boots. And to her credit, she cleaned up all her clothes, putting them back neatly where they belonged before doing her hair, which she’d flat ironed so it was straight, and make-up.

She headed off to the address Asami had given her, trying not to psyche herself out. She’d never thought of herself as being a model, so to have someone think she’d make a good model was a bit strange. But Lara was supportive, and Bo didn’t have anything to lose by trying and seeing what would happen. She wasn’t expecting much to come of it, honestly. There were plenty of beautiful models in the world, she didn’t think she’d stand out among them, though she was certain Lara would argue that she did.

Bo arrived at the workshop Asami said she’d be at. She stayed in the back, simply observing and getting a taste of what one consisted of.

It was obvious a lot of research and development went on here. It wasn’t the corporate HQ, that was down town, but it was the place Asami spent most of her time. There was a race track, testing fields and a gorgeous gold and green airship hovering over the ocean nearby. Inside this particular workshop, there were a half dozen people, most of them women. They were working on projects ranging from something to do with drones, a disassembled jet engine and some kind of unique looking car that was also disassembled.

Asami was wearing an apron smudged with grease, yet her hair seemed to fall perfectly around her shoulders as if by some magic, and her clothing under the apron was tailored. There was a bit of grease on her cheeks she didn’t notice, and she pulled her gloves off so she could shake Bo’s hand. Her eyes might have dipped for just a moment. “Hello! Welcome to Future Industries. What do you think?”

This place seemed like it was something out of a sci-fi movie. Or maybe even Tony Stark’s lab on steroids. The level of craftsmanship happening here was awe-inspiring, and Bo couldn’t quite wrap her mind around it at first. When Asami approached her, Bo’s eye was caught by her hair and she was a bit transfixed by it. How could hair look that perfect after working like that? She shook her head and smiled, taking Asami’s hand and shaking it.

“Hi! This is...this is completely amazing.” She had that look of awe on her face, even if there was a little voice in her head wondering what a girl like her was doing in a place like this.

“It really is, thank you.” Asami replied, flushing a little. She tossed her hair back over her shoulder after shaking Bo’s hand. She couldn’t help it, Asami tended to flirt on instinct with her hair. It was second nature to her. Even if she wouldn’t dream of stealing another person’s woman. “I want to see a future where girls and women are allowed to do these kinds of things without it being considered exceptional.”

Okay that hair flip was entirely unfair. Though she suddenly thought she understood how Lara must feel whenever Bo flashed her cleavage at her. Being a succubus, her head could be easily turned at times by people, but she was fiercely loyal to her partner. She would look, but never touch, unless she was dying and Lara wasn’t there. “I love that. It’s definitely something more girls should be able to embrace.” Bo wasn’t counting herself because engineering was so not her thing. She wasn’t wired that way, but she’d definitely encourage those who were to embrace it.

“It’s near and dear to my heart.” Asami led Bo to a little office on the side. “I’m sorry it’s not my fancy office, but I think it’ll do for a quiet place to chat. Do you want something to drink?” She held the door for Bo. It really was hard not to stare, Bo was an attractive woman, supernaturally so. Asami worried she would be sending the wrong message, but Bo wasn’t the only model she wanted to hire and pretty girls could be smart too, that was important.

Bo followed after Asami, glancing around at the place before stepping into the office with a smile. “It’s alright, I don’t mind. And no, thank you, I’m good.” She was aware of the staring, but didn’t read into it at all. After all, she was used to people staring at her. The only time they’d have a problem was if Asami tried to put a move on her. Thankfully the engagement ring on her finger tended to keep most people from getting that far.

“Have a seat.” Asami got herself a bottled water and took a seat behind a cramped looking desk that was covered with blueprints and what looked like part of a transmission. “Have you ever modeled before? Or considered how to? Not that I’ve ever hired a model before.”

She took a seat, not really knowing how this would go. “Not seriously, no. I briefly thought about it several years ago when I needed a job, but dismissed it quickly because I’m not the typical model type.” Plus Bo had found other easier and quicker ways to get enough money to make ends meet. “Though I’m curious. What made you think I could be a model?”

“Just a gut feeling,” Asami said. “You’re gorgeous, and I think you’d look really good in overalls or some kind of goggles.” She tapped her finger on her lips. She was sure none of her outfits from her dreams would fit Bo, but something like that would look really good on her.

“So I’m assuming the modeling would be for your products and workshop stuff?” Just going by the fact Asami had mentioned overalls and goggles, it seemed safe to assume she was looking for promoting her company’s products.

“Exactly. You’ll also get a crash course in the products and technology in case anyone asks you about it.” It would be embarrassing if she had a model that the media considered stupid, and Bo didn’t seem stupid. “Know anything about cars? Want to know anything about cars?” Honestly one of Asami’s first ‘crap I’m gay’ moments had been one of those car magazines with a mostly naked woman on the hood of a car.

Somewhere Lara just died at the thought of Bo on a car in a bikini.

“Well, here’s to hoping I pass the crash course!” Bo joked, though she was nervous about it. She didn’t always do well with learning new terminology and such. Hopefully none of it involved learning long, scientific names because then she’d be hopeless. She wasn’t stupid, but she knew her limits. “I don’t know much about the technical side, but I know some models? I drive a yellow 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible. That thing is kind of my baby.” Though she couldn’t do the maintenance on it. She wasn’t a mechanic, and she didn’t try to be.

“That sounds like a beautiful car! I have a Cobra GT-500, same year. We should try racing sometime.” Asami was already smiling, but now she was positively beaming. “I could show you how to soup her up a little or work on her. There’s something satisfying about working on your own car and I’m sure your fiance will enjoy watching.”

She had no idea Lara was really, really handy with that kind of thing herself.

“Actually it would be me watching her. Lara’s kind of amazing at that sort of thing.” Bo said with a fond grin. Lara was really amazing with a lot of things. She fully believed Lara could do whatever she put her mind to. “As for racing, I’m not exactly a racer. Though the Cobra is an awesome car. What color is it?”

Asami grinned, and gestured at what she was wearing. “Red, it’s kind of my thing.” Though there was a certain shade of Water Tribe blue she was fond of. Except for the dream car in that color she tried to avoid it. Thinking about Korra only made her long for the Avatar more than she already did. No matter what was going on with her and Kitiara, not letting Korra go had already cost her two relationships. If her and Kit were a thing, she didn’t want to lose that too.

“Great color,” she said with a smile. “Black tends to be my thing, but couldn’t pass up the yellow Camaro.” Black and leather, really. But she had some other colors mixed into her wardrobe. She had some reds and blues, even had a white shirt or two. But by and large, it was black. “I didn’t completely grow out of my teenage rebellion stage.”

“I skipped mine entirely.” At least outside the dreams. Turning on her dad in the dreams might count for teenage rebellion, even if he’d been the rebel. Terrorist. Rebels could sometimes be something to admire, depending. “Probably a good thing. Made it easier to take over the company when my father got himself locked away.”

“I can see how that would make it easier.” When someone was a public figure, it was definitely best to have as few skeletons in the closet as possible. Less dirt for other people to hit them with. “Though hopefully you’ll be able to make the company grow under your guidance.”

“I have been. Distanced myself from the past, flushed out the old guard.” Asami nodded, smiling. “Focusing more on women in STEM fields. I use a lot of the employees in ads, but…” She shrugged. Part of her was worried about being a hypocrite, hiring someone for looks, but something about Bo had stuck out to her and she’d gone with her gut.

“But sometimes you need something a little different than what your employees can offer?” Bo finished. She still didn’t quite know what she could bring to modeling other than a rampant sex appeal, and she wasn’t certain that’s the kind of approach Asami wanted to take in her ads, but she wasn’t about to argue unless things became inappropriate or uncomfortable or something.

“Yes, exactly that. I like to highlight diversity and body diversity is part of that as well.” She still thought Bo was the type who could be a model. Modeling wasn’t just for sticks with boobs. And Bo’s fiance was a woman, which was another angle that wasn’t a bad thing.

“That’s definitely a good thing to highlight, on both parts.” Bo could definitely appreciate showing girls didn’t have to be a size zero to be beautiful or feel good about themselves. Despite her self-image issues, none of it was tied into her not being a size zero. Luckily, she’d never fallen victim to that sort of thinking. “So what do you want to aim for in your ads? I mean like, what do you want to portray?”

“For most of them, you hard at work. You’d have to get a little dirty. I’m not above a little cheesecake since I do have a new line of autos though.” Asami winked. “Though I’d never ask you to do one of those car magazine covers.” There was sexy then there was not-classy.

“I don’t mind getting dirty.” Bo chuckled. Getting spots of oil here and there would be preferable to blood and god knew what else she tended to get on her in her dreams. “I’m definitely okay with doing sexy.” Plus the classy sort of sexy would no doubt go over better with Lara as opposed to the not-classy.

“That’s wonderful!” Asami rested her hands on the table, and leaned forward. “How would you like a trip around the track?” She thought that having Bo at events might be good sometimes, and she should have experience with some of the things that those events would involve.

Mostly she wanted to show off her driving skills, she took every opportunity to do so.

“Sure! I’d like that.” Bo replied with a smile. It would certainly be an experience to have, getting a trip around the track. Asami must have a huge complex if she had this place and a race track. Who knew what else Future Industries had here?

She’d almost lost it all. Sometimes she wondered at how lucky she really was. It was one reason she tried to pay it forward. So many girls didn’t have that sort of thing to help them out. “Why don’t we go right now. I think I can blow your mind away!”
