It really wasn’t fair that Halloween wasn’t one of those holidays that was always on the same night of the week. Last Friday or Saturday of October would be pretty much perfect. But no, that was reserved for the stupid holidays that no one cared about like Easter and Thanksgiving.
Halloween just wasn’t Halloween unless you could get dressed up and then get hammered. Which was probably what Katou was going to do on Monday anyway, but the Halloween Saturday seemed even better. Maybe he’d even be able to convince Caleb to come out with him. And so he stood at the door of Caleb’s new apartment, dressed as his favourite Disney princess. He didn’t even have to wear a wig for the costume, all he had to do was think about his hair being long and red, and it was.
“Trick-or-treat!” he called, banging loudly on the door with his metal hand, voice raised a pitch or two in order to further complete the costume.
Caleb was in the middle of cooking dinner for himself and Hanna while she walked Techno when he heard the banking on the door. And the ‘Trick-or-treat.” His brows knitted together. It wasn’t Halloween yet, still a few days away. And that voice sounded oddly familiar.
He made his way over to the door, opening it. “What the hell?” he said, bursting out into laughter when he spotted Katou dresses as none other than Anna. “You know it’s not Halloween until Monday, right?”
Katou couldn’t help the shit-eating grin that crossed his face when Caleb burst into laughter. “Oh please, everyone knows the real party’s the weekend before,” Katou snorted. He did a twirl, the dress he was wearing billowing out slightly as he did so. “Whatdya think? If you ask me, I’m way cuter than the real deal.”
“No comment,” Caleb said still laughing, shaking his head. “What the hell inspired you to dress up like Anna?” He paused for a moment, stepping back to let Katou inside. “Actually, I don’t think I want to know.”
“The look on her fucking face when she sees me,” Katou said, smirking widely. He was saving that particular encounter for Halloween itself though. “I mean, I didn’t realize that she was from a fucking Disney movie or nothing, but once I figured that out I didn’t have much of a choice.” No, he had to dress up like her. Just like he’d had to outfit his own bedroom in Frozen blankets and pillows.
“Here’s a statement I’d never thought I’d say. I’m not Anna the Disney princess,” he joked. Katou had said he wanted to see the look on Anna’s face after all and Caleb was certainly not Anna. “So what’s up?” he asked walking back into the kitchen. “Decide to interrupt my cooking this time?” Kind of ironic since when he had interrupted Katou he’d actually been with Anna.
“Really? Shit, I guess I got the wrong address,” Katou snorted. He followed Caleb into the kitchen. Once there, he glanced at what Caleb was cooking. Pasta was always a good choice, and Katou pulled one of the noodles out from the pot and popped it into his mouth.
“Just thought I’d come hang. See what you were up to. The old ball and chain ain’t around?”
“Sure, help yourself,” Caleb joked. Not that he really minded. Besides one noodle wasn’t going to ruin their dinner. “Dressed up as Anna?”
“She’s walking Techno,” he tensed a bit as he mentioned it. He had barely let Hanna out of his sight since his last dream. But she insisted and his girlfriend was stubborn if nothing else.
Katou generally didn’t need people’s permission before rooting through their cupboards and stoves for food, and he shot Caleb a toothy grin. “Well, I was gonna see if you wanted to get dressed up and go to a party or something, but I see now you’re playing house husband, so that’s a bust. But hey, taking the costume out for a test run before trying it out on the real deal don’t seem like such a bad idea.”
Caleb had already done a Halloween party for Hanna’s mom’s work the previous night and were going to Stark’s party on Halloween. The couple needed a night off especially after the week they had. “I know, I’m all boring and domestic now,” he joked. He honestly liked it. It was a life he never thought he would have for himself. “If you want to give up your party plans you should join us for dinner.” He did want Katou and Hanna to get along after all.
Katou rubbed the side of his head and groaned loudly, as if Caleb even suggesting such a thing was putting Katou out. “Man, give up a whole night of drinking just to hang out with you boring people?” Katou snorted. Honestly, it didn’t seem like such a bad idea, and it wasn’t like Katou had cemented any other plans. “You don’t think I’m a little overdressed for the occasion?”
“And now I’m rethinking my invitation,” Caleb joked. “But, nah. I actually think Hanna would like you better like that.” At least it would lighten the mood a bit, since he was pretty sure Hanna was still a little bit iffy about him.
Katou let out a defeated sigh, though he wasn’t that upset. Hanna hadn’t seemed the type to fuck with Caleb when he’d met her, and since he’d started watching the weird ass show they were both a part of, he realized that was even more likely. He wanted Caleb to be happy, which meant he probably really try to get on Hanna’s good side. “I guess,” Katou said. “Though you’re gonna owe me a night out at some point.”
