Liv was beyond excited to go see Lowell at rehearsal. She was dying to see him play. And seeing him at rehearsal felt like a very grilfriendy thing to do. Which they hadn’t technically DTR’d yet but it seemed to be going in that direction. Liv certainly wasn’t seeing anyone else, not that she really could but still.
Liv entered the studio a huge smile on her face and walked right up to the receptionist. “Hi, I’m here for the Pocket Dial rehearsal. Name’s Liv,” she told the lady not sure if her name was on sort of list or something.
The receptionist checked something on her computer then walked Liv to the studio they were rehearsing in and let her in. “Oh my god! This is so exciting!” Liv exclaimed as she entered.
Lowell had performed in front of venues packed with hundreds of screaming fans, and yet he was still nervous to play with his band in front of Liv. He still got nervous. He still got that initial rush of adrenaline that kept him going throughout the entire set, but when he was on stage, he had everything perfected. Every song was carefully polished, and by the time they went on stage, mistakes were minimal.
It wasn’t like that in rehearsal. It was sloppy, jamming the pieces together until they started to fit. He’d almost told them to just practice the stuff they knew, the old hits they’d performed a million times already. But he couldn’t do that. They had their small gig at the Hanged Man lined up, and Pocket Dial was planning on playing a large amount of new songs for the first time.
Which meant that they had no choice but to practice the new ones if they wanted them ready in time for their gig. Still, it made Lowell’s hands sweat, and he told everyone to really give it their all that night before Liv showed up.
And then she was through the door, smiling and unexpectedly upbeat. He turned to her and smiled. “Liv!” he greeted her, and headed toward the door to embrace her. “Thanks Catherine,” he said to the receptionist, before turning toward his band, an arm across her shoulders.
“Everyone, this is Liv. Liv, this is everyone,” he introduced her, making an encompassing gesture toward the rest of the band. They greeted her in turn.
“Hi everyone!” she greeted in a tone that was way too cheerful for normal Liv. “Lowell’s told me so much about you.” Which wasn’t entirely true, but he did talk about the band a good amount so close enough.
“This is so exciting. I’ve like never seen a band rehearse before,” she beamed at Lowell before giving him a kiss on the cheek. She reluctantly pulled away from his arm so he could go rehearse.
Lowell wasn’t about to let her get away with just a kiss on the cheek, so he turned and quickly gave her a peck on the lips, ignoring the wolf whistle from Daniel, the bassist, as he did so. It was nice, how excited Liv was to be here, even if he could catch the vaguely amused looks on his bandmates faces. Then, reluctantly, he left her side and picked up his guitar from its stand.
“Hopefully it’ll live up to all your expectations,” he said, winking at her and hoping that it lived up to all of his expectations as well. “Why don’t you grab a seat?”
Of course Liv returned the kiss, even if she was slightly embarrassed by the bands’ reaction. “I’m sure it will!” she exclaimed as she went to take a seat. Really, how could it not? And damn Lowell looked so hot with his guitar in hand. Not that he wasn’t always hot but it definitely added to it. “Well?” she asked once they were all settled. “What are you waiting for? I’m here to watch you play!”
Lowell barely paid attention to the band. They’d been together for a long time, and razzing each other over girlfriends and similar things was just part of it the band experience these days.
Jenny, the girl sitting behind the drums, snorted. “Yeah, Lowell, quit holding us up,” she said, and before waiting for anyone to respond counted it in on the drums. She took the rest of the band by surprise, but by the third tap on the drums, they all had their instruments ready to play, and on the fourth the kicked into their first song.
Once the first song was done Liv broke out into applause, getting up from her seat. “S-U-P-E-R,” she cheered doing little hand motions with it. “That is what you are!” Once her little cheer was done she beamed at Lowell. “That was great!” As if her little cheer hadn’t made is obvious.
His second guitar player and his bassist turned away from Liv in an attempt to hide their muffled laughter, and even Jenny looked a little confused. Lowell himself probably would have been more embarrassed, if it hadn’t been so adorable. “It’s not every day we get our own cheer section during rehearsal. Got to say, it’s a nice touch.” Really stroked the ego, even with all the mistakes that they’d made. It was good to know that they were mistakes that most people who weren’t musicians would have caught though.
At his words Liv rushed over to him wrapping her arms around him in a huge hug. She was no longer embarrassed in front of his bandmates, or by the fact that this was probably not normal behavior for a rehearsal. She was just so happy and excited to be here. And proud of Lowell. “I knew you guys were good,” she said as she released him. “But still! This is so great! G-R-E-A-T great!”
That was apparently too much for the other band members, who no longer tried to hide their laughter from Liv or Lowell.
“So you’re dating a cheerleader now?” Daniel managed between giggles.
“Apparently,” said Lowell slowly. There was definitely something strange about Liv. She was multi-faceted in a way that he couldn’t possibly have thought of before, but at the very least it kept things interesting. And it wasn’t like people became musicians without being a little strange themselves. “Though as far as cheerleaders go, she’s the B-E-S-T, best.” He didn’t come close to Liv’s enthusiasm when he said it, but he also didn’t take his eyes from her.
Well, that response deserved a kiss. And not just a peck like before. She wrapped her arms back around him, the guitar getting smushed between them as she placed a passionate kiss on his lips. “You’re the best,” she mumbled pulling away again. “But get back to rehearsal!” Since that was the whole point after all. “I’ll try not to interrupt anymore.”
Lowell returned the kiss, ignoring the smooching and gagging sounds that came from behind him. He was a little disappointed when she pulled away, but he was here to do a job, and like any job, it was generally frowned upon to call things off to snog your girl.
“I can’t say I mind the interruptions, but that may not be a bad call.” He smiled at her, before turning his attention back to the band. “Alright guys, from the top. Daniel, you were a little late coming in for the second verse. Let’s tighten all that up.”
