"Okay fine, dresses first, making Ollie and Azula pop stiffies second."
Who: Jubilee and Ty Lee What: Dress shopping! When: Like two days ago Where: Mall Status: complete Rating: PG-13 for Jubilee.
Jubilee needed a dress. She didn't have friends like Azula who had friends like Rarity, and she probably wouldn't have accepted it anyway. She tolerated Azula for Ty Lee's sake, but it would likely never move beyond a grudging respect sort of feeling.
But it was an excuse to shop, and so she and Ty Lee descended upon the mall like sugar addled crack addicts.
The smoothies and adventures they'd had earlier that day were definitely helping to fuel the the crack addict-energy buzz that both of them seemed to be infected with. Ty Lee's head was still spinning from the whole thing. She wondered if Jubes had uploaded it to YouTube yet.
The mall had several places with nice dresses, and bounced on her heels at the entrance to one that displayed all kinds of glittery and somewhat daring ones, while waiting for Jubes to catch up, "Come ooooon, all around medalist! Hobble faster!"
It already had thirty-thousand hits. Jubilee showed her the video, excitedly, "Look! So many hits! THIS IS AWESOMESAUCE YO! And I'm hobbling as fast as I can!" And she was. Hobble hobble hobble, trying to keep up with her friend.
"This store is sweet. I like that yellow dress, with the pink ribbons!" No Jubilee, just no.
"It totally is, but... Let's find you something that'll make a statement without also getting us all marked for death by the fashion police," Ty Lee giggled, and helped Jubilee into the shop.
Whatever it was that they found, it would have to be colorful, that was certain. Jubilee would settle for nothing less! But not the yellow one with the pink ribbons. How did that one even get on the rack?
"Dude, I am the fashion police. HEY! Come on." She grabbed Ty Lee's hand and tried to direct her over to Frederick's, but ended up flailing.
"Okay fine, dresses first, making Ollie and Azula pop stiffies second."
She stared at the yellow one longingly and then followed Ty Lee.
"Can Azula even POP a stiffie?" Ty Lee wanted to know, while they headed into the shop. She probably said it too loudly, because several of the nearby moms escorting their daughters to get homecoming dresses looked at her oddly.
She grinned sheepishly at them and helped Jubilee over to a chair, "Now you sit here, and I'll find a BUNCH of dresses, and show them to you, and you can just be like 'that one is totally lame, you!' or 'that one is awesome'!"
Ignoring the odd looks, Jubilee explained, "Lady boner, girl! You know that thing you get when...ooh that one is lame!" She pointed at a homecoming dress that looked like they cut out a spot for a pregnant belly.
"Okay so not that one then!" Ty Lee laughed. She wouldn't have picked that one out for Jubilee anyway, so she was glad that Jubilee had decided that it wasn't the one for her. Otherwise she would have been explaining why she couldn't wear it, and she was already afraid she'd have to explain about the yellow one.
"I'll find you something awesome and colorful. You'll love it!" And away the little gymnast went, making her way through the crowds in the store and surfing the racks. There were so many choices that she wasn't really sure where to start.
But she wanted her friend to look good. That was really important, since she'd be going with Ollie probably.
"I kinda want it. For lulz," Jubilee commented. "I could totes wear one of those preggers suits!" She was joking. Hopefully. She followed as nimbly as she could, wishing her leg would hurry up and heal already. At least she was off crutches, and her PT would approve of the exercise.
Despite her joking, Jubilee felt laid back and relaxed. It was a good day.
Ty Lee had told her to take a seat, but of course she wasn't surprised to see her friend tagging along behind her as she navigated the racks. Jubilee was one of the most determined people she knew. In a lot of ways, she was even more determined than Azula was.
There were several dresses that caught her eye for Jubilee as they went, and she indicated a few as they walked, "What about that one there? It's really really pink, which you love, and the gold is really kind of daring. Or maybe..."
She indicated another one across the way, "This one? It's very colorful and I think Ollie would stare and stare at you."
Jubilee looked them over, wrinkling her nose as she did so, "They're nice but I dunno. It's like they’re missing something that's me y'know?" She flailed her arms out as if to emphasize the 'me' that she was, "It needs to be DAZZLING and bright and colorful and PURE AWESOME!"
Little paffs of light erupted from her fingers as she spun around on her good leg.
The fireworks show dazzled Ty Lee for a moment, as it always did when Jubilee paffed. It was probably the 18 millionth time that her friend had put on such a show, but she never got tired of it. Being able to create fireworks was amazing.
And it gave her an idea. Which she started thinking through, while tugging Jubilee's hand down and looking around the place, "Hey, don't startle the other people. We don't want to get kicked out while I find you the best dress ever, do we?"
Other people stopped and stared, but she didn't seem to cause all that much of a commotion. Perhaps folks were getting used to strange events. There was a man flying around in an armored suit, after all. Jubilee was just making harmless fireworks!
"Okay fine..." Fireworks could cause fire, and some people weren't looking amused. Jubilee decided to keep things a bit more subdued, powerwise.
"Only if we get to get sexy panties!" But only powerwise.
Ty Lee covered her face with her hands momentarily, and sighed, "Alright. Sexy undies, next stop. Promise. But first..."
She looked around the shop a bit more, and then she spotted something with her eyes that she just knew was the perfect dress for Jubilee. It was on a mannequin in the store, colorful and sparkling in a pattern that looked almost like fireworks had lit it up. It might as well have had Jubilee's name written all over it, specially with the bright pink train coming off the back.
"Woo!" Jubilee threw up both of her hands and nearly toppled over. She caught herself on Ty Lee and straightened. Her eyes followed Ty Lee's finger and then they lit up like a thousand exploding suns. She glomped Ty Lee from behind and squeed. So loud and high pitched was the sound that the window nearby vibrated.
"THAT'S IT THAT'S IT THAT'S IT!"
The excitement was addicting and Ty Lee found herself bouncing on her heels a bit, so very happy that Jubilee had found THE DRESS and that she had helped her find it!
Careful not to allow her friend to topple over, Ty Lee approached the rack and found one in Jubilee's size. Then she guided her over to the fitting rooms, and without even thinking of if that would cause a scandal or not, went right on into the fitting room with her. Mainly because Jubes wasn't going to be able to try on a dress without some serious help.
After several awkward minutes, Jubilee had the dress on, and her eyes were sparkling with wibbly, unshed tears. Who knew the perfect dress could make her feel like this.
"..this is totes it, yo..."
"It totally is." Ty Lee nodded from behind her. Then hugged her and jumped up and down a bit, "You're going to steal the show!"
"Lets get sexy panties and a make-over," Jubilee suggested. She didn't give Ty Lee a chance to object. She was off!
