House hunting wasn't on the top of the list of things that Baby really enjoyed. Of course, the entire experience was being made better by sharing it with Wade. It was quite the step for the two of them, one that she was happy to take of course, but a big step nonetheless. Baby was happy that their relationship was progressing the way that it was, and she was more than willing to do whatever it took to keep Wade in her life.
The realtor hadn't shown up just yet, so she was standing there outside the first property that they were going to be shown. Her lips were pursed slightly in thought. The place was nice, bigger than she'd expected it to be, and it even had an honest-to-God white fucking picket fence.
That alone had been enough to cause Baby to giggle as she turned to Wade. "Think we're ready for suburbia? Or better yet, is suburbia ready for us?" She'd already seen a few of the neighbors peeking out their windows, or pretending to go get their mail. What they thought didn't bother Baby, but she thought they were probably coming out for the view. She was dressed in a jean skirt that might've rode a little low and showed a little more leg than they were used to, and her tank top was spaghetti strapped and it was clear she wasn't wearing a bra underneath. Of course she'd dressed that way because she'd wanted to be comfortable, and it was fucking hot outside.
It wasn't her fault that people in suburbia were prudes.

"I think it's missing the two-point-five kids and the dog which we are not ready for, no, ma'am."
Wade ran a hand threw his hair in consternation. He was wearing a sleeveless shirt which clung to him like a second skin and combat pants with matching combat boots. No, thanks so much, he didn't miss his time in the armed forces as far as he was willing to admit. Yes, he was quite comfortable admitting he'd done some unpleasant things while enlisted and no he didn't regret any of them. No, fuck everyone staring very much, he and Baby were not the kind of people who wanted to live on a street that looked like something out of Mayberry.
Suburbian life was something he could handle. Baby wanted a house. Wade wanted Baby. That meant Wade wanted a house. A plus B plus C equalled D or some shit, fuck it, blah blah blah; Wade was willing to move back to Canada if it meant he kept Baby. That didn't mean he couldn't voice an opinion on the place when it looked like June Cleaver was going to pop out of the ground in front of him like some evil cookie-bearing groundhog.
"I'm willing to look at it. I'm willing to play in the pool it had better have. I don't know if I'm willing to invest me dishonestly earned money in it when I think we'd be happier living under a bridge than here."
~*~
No, they definitely weren't ready for all of the other things that came along with suburbia. Baby didn't even know if she wanted kids or not, well, fuck it, she didn't want any kids. They'd probably end up with too many issues that she didn't want to have to deal with, and besides, she liked being the center of Wade's attention.
She didn't want to bring a child into the equation since it'd take the attention away from her, but she guessed her mind could change. She doubted that it would, but one could never say never or some bullshit like that.
Going over to him, Baby looped her arm through his. "This one does have a pool. I told her that we weren't looking at any places that didn't have them." There was a privacy fence around the back, she could see the gate from where they stood and she was glad that there was. The neighbors would likely be very upset with any of their activities that would happen back there.
"I'm glad you're willing to give it a chance. Maybe she's got some places that aren't in suburbia." She leaned up to press a kiss to his cheek, and then turned as a car pulled into the drive. "Hey Roxanne!" She greeted the realtor as she stepped out of her car, "This is Wade." She motioned to him, and Roxanne gave a small nod as she made her way toward them.
Roxanne stuck her hand out, "Nice to meet you."
"I think we might be looking for something not soo...fucking suburbia, but we're willing to look at this one for now." Baby shrugged her shoulders as Roxanne laughed softly.
"I have some other places that might be more suitable to your needs, but let me show you this place first." Roxanne turned, pulling a set of keys out of her pocket all the while rattling on about when the house was built, and all that jazz.
~*~
Wade shook Roxanne's hand with his free one, enjoying the feel of Baby's soft breast pressed against his arm where she was clinging to him at his side. He didn't even notice the color of the realtor's hair over the sound of her prattling voice. Damn, she could talk, couldn't she? Wade figured she used that skill to overwhelm prospective buyers with enough verbal garbage to get them to be blind to the potential problems with any sale.
It'd have been a smart tactic if he weren't mostly all mouth.
"You think she knows to use hand sanitizer before she starts to put that hand anywhere else? I'm pretty sure you and I both know what the last thing was I did with my hand right before she shook it."
He wanted to make a joke about shaking Baby all night long, but the woman was clicking through the house as if her heels were on fire. He supposed they were since the look on his face was enough to tell her she wasn't selling them this one. Wade liked the layout of the living room okay though the stairs being right in front of the door? Always a bad idea. Too easy to get shot in a home invasion. Off-set stairs were a definite must-have on his list if the house was going to have more than one floor.
"I prefer ranch styles. Less likelihood of getting cornered in a home invasion or trapped in an upstairs room. You got anything with one level and a pool on your short list for us?"
Wade didn't care if he scared her or not. He only wanted someplace he could keep Baby safe. They were going out the back door to see the pool area which was pretty awesome. The pool wasn't nearly as big as he'd like though. It was one of those weird kidney-shaped jobs. He almost told her he wasn't that dated, thanks so fucking much, but Baby wanted him to play nice so he was playing nice.
"Okay. We can skip the upstairs unless you tell me there's something really unique up there like a sex dungeon or a room with full soundproofing and a nice drain in the tiled floor. I'm thinking 'no' to the multi-floor house with the kidney pool. Baby? That good with you?"
~*~
"Here's hoping that she will once she gets back to her car." She gave Wade a wink, and then followed on into the house as Roxanne kept rattling on in regards to the house. She was fine with the layout of it in general, she wasn't impressed with the decor in general, but that could always be changed.
Going out back, she pulled a face at the sight of the pool and then glanced up at Wade.
Roxanne's brows rose slightly at him, and she shook her head. "No, nothing like that up there." Her eyes darted to Baby who just shrugged, and then she cleared her throat. "I do have a one story place with a full basement and a pool if you're interested in looking at that one. You can just follow me."
Baby nodded, "Yeah, I'm not digging this place either. Let's go look at this other place." Baby figured it'd just be for the best if they left, and tried something else. Worst case? They didn't find a place that they liked today and they could try back again later on in the month. Baby, however, wanted to get out of her lease as soon as she could.
It would just be nice to have a place to call their own.
~*~
"You're tempting me with that full basement comment aren't you? If you're suggesting I might be able to create my own sex dungeon downstairs in my little slice of suburbia? You are barking up the right tree."
Wade grinned at the realtor as if he'd just commented on Spanish tiled roofing or privacy fences. He didn't have a sense of shame about his life or preferences or his style. Baby liked that about him since she said exactly what she wanted, too. They made a good team when it came to overpowering anyone trying to start any kind of conversation with them anywhere they were always.
They weren't the kind of people who followed. They were the kind of people who led the way.
It was only incidental their path happened to be the road to madness.
Wrapping his arm around Baby's shoulders, Wade hugged her close as he mock-whispered to her, "Even if you love it when we get there, pretend to hate it so we can talk the price down. We don't want to seem desperate to get our dream house."
~*~
"I thought it might work." Roxanne replied with a small smile, "I'll have to look at the paperwork, but I do think it's unfinished so you could do with it what you want." Roxanne exited the house, waiting on the two of them to follow.
Baby glanced up at Wade, one arm wrapping around his waist. She laughed softly, "I'm okay with that. I think we'll be able to talk her down." She gave him a wink and then walked outside so Roxanne could lock up the house behind them.
She was ready to go check this other place out, hopeful that it would be a place that they could actually call their own.
Even if the basement was unfinished, or it was a fixer upper Baby would be happy. She watched Roxanne move to her car, and she dug through a few of her folders. "Yes, the basement is unfinished in this place, and it is a bit of a fixer upper but a good investment."
Baby's brows rose, "Still want to go take a look at it?"
~*~
Wade didn't stop his hands from roaming over Baby as they made their way out after the realtor. She had the kind of body which begged to be touched and she was all his. The house-hunting was only getting started, but Wade thought it was actually doing more for his libido than he'd ever imagined. Who would have thought he'd be able to want her more? Baby must not mind because she wasn't trying to get away from him.
"Absolutely. I look great in a tool belt."
His handyman skills weren't incredibly good, but hey! Wade Wilson was a man of many talents. He could learn how to make it all work out to their favor. Besides, he might start having dreams of being Tim 'The Toolman' Taylor. It was possible he was a brilliant architect in another life. In Orange County, anyone was capable of being anything. Wade thought he could do some basic upkeep on a place.
"We can always say no if it's more than what we want to take on. Or you can tell me if any of the guy's you see on the regular are contractors who might give us a discount in exchange for our discretion."
~*~
She didn't mind Wade's hands on her, she'd never mind his hands roaming over her body and she didn't care that they were in public view either. "You look great in anything." She replied, glancing up at him with a sly smile.
Regardless of what the house might or might not look like, they would make it work. Hell, they made everything in their little world work as far as she was concerned. Baby thought that between the two of them they could do a few small things, and leave the rest of it up to the professionals.
"Yeah, course." Baby agreed with a nod, "There's a few of them that I know are contractors. I'm sure they'd be happy to cut us a deal." Baby could always ask, and if not? Well, there was a lot of beans she could spill if they tried to fuck them over. Baby knew more about her regulars than she cared to admit to, but she had gotten some pretty fucking sweet discounts over the years.
Reluctantly she pulled away from Wade to make her way to the passenger side door. With a wicked grin, she looked at him over the roof of the car. "How about I show you a little appreciation for coming to look at this piece of shit house on our way over to the other place?" Blowjobs while driving could be fun, dangerous sure, but Hell she was willing to take a little risk to show him her appreciation.
~*~
Letting Baby go was almost as hard as it was for her to pull away from him. Wade wanted to crack a joke about how if she really wanted to compliment him, she'd say he looked better in nothing at all. He managed to keep his mouth shut for once because he was taking down the address of the second house from Roxanne. His memory was great until he got his hands on Baby and then all bets were off so Wade was doing some hedging by inputting the location into his cell phone's GPS app.
He verified the address again with Roxanne before heading over to his side of the car. Baby made him smile as only she could. It was good to be him. So very, very good. Wade thought he should give the realtor a little warning before they took off on their journey to the next potential home for the Firefly-Wilson family. Some guys would have walked over to talk to her quietly, explaining on a professional level he might be delayed.
Wade Wilson wasn't some guy.
"Hey, Roxanne! Drive slow! Baby and I are going to engage in some public indecency. Roadhead! I'm not a minute-man so take care to obey all traffic laws and maybe drive 5 under the speed limit."
Wade looked at Baby then back to Roxanne as he amended, "10 under the speed limit! Gotta give a girl the respect her talents are due!"
Wade Wilson was some lucky guy. That was the difference.
