Who: Mary Margaret Blanchard and David Nolan
What: Reunion.
When: Labor Day weekend.
Where: The shelter.
Rating/Warnings: High fluff rating.
Status: Complete

David hadn’t said that he was coming back. At the time, it seemed like a great idea, a great surprise. Things were better now than when he’d first come to Orange County. He felt like he had his life in order, at least, and that was important. Important because he wanted to offer that security to Mary Margaret, if they ever got that far. If she even wanted him back. Because now that he was standing next to his truck, in the parking lot in front of the shelter, he was feeling very hesitant.

Maybe he should have told her. What if she was angry at him? He wasn’t sure he could handle that, but, well. They’d survived worse in that crazy dream world of theirs, they’d survive this, too.

David took a deep breath and smoothed down his hair, walking up to the door. Inside he looked around. No one was there, which could be good, or bad. He leaned against the main desk and rang the bell.

Mary Margaret was just coming back from the kitchen, having gotten a couple boxes of canned goods as donations just that morning. Normally her new assistant would have been at the front desk, but the girl had helped them bring the boxes to the kitchen and was just behind Mary Margaret as she stepped out into the foyer and stopped short, her assistant almost crashing into her back.

“Miss. Blanchard, are you alright?” She asked, glancing at Mary Margaret for a moment before she notice David standing there. David who Mary Margaret had already spotted and had been the reason she’d stopped. While Mary Margaret had hoped David might come back someday she hadn’t actually been expecting him to simply show up like that. Then again, it did seem like a Charming thing to do.

Having spotted David, her assistant finally figured out that he was the reason she was standing there staring it shock and was just about to speak when Mary Margaret moved forward, taking a few steps slowly at first before practically running at David and wrapping her arms around his neck. It wasn’t the way she’d seen herself greeting David if he came back to Orange County, but after everything they had been through in the dreams, she simply couldn’t help herself and she hoped he wouldn’t mind.

It was weird, a little bit, the way time sort of stopped when David saw her. He didn’t even realize how much he missed her - and he had missed her a lot, had missed everything they could’ve been before he left. Apparently she missed him just as much, which was good, because he knew she could hit hard if she wanted to. As soon as she was near, David wrapped his arms around her in turn, lifting her off the ground as he laughed.

“Hey. Good to see you, too.” Still grinning, David let Mary Margaret down. He ducked his head a bit, feeling a blush spread across his cheeks as he shrugged. “I mean. Surprise?”

Mary Margaret laughed as he swung her around and clung to him a little tighter. “When did you get back? I mean, are you really back?” She had the urge to kiss him, but she didn't want to make things awkward simply because of her feelings from the dreams. But would it really make things awkward? They were Snow White and Prince Charming and he’d obviously come here to see her. She decided to wait just a bit before doing anything further. She needed to make sure he still felt the same way as he did when he left.

“Just this morning.” Which meant that the first thing David did was come find her, but he wasn’t going to point out how ridiculous that was. “I’m really back. Cross my heart.” He gave her a bit of a grin, and felt that very same urge to kiss Mary Margaret. Funny how things worked. “Do you - I mean, are you busy? I can leave. I just had to see you, to let you know I was here in person. And … Maybe if you were free to grab a coffee or something …”

She almost couldn’t believe that he’d come to see her right after getting back, but it made sense. “Well I’m really glad you’re back. I’ve missed you.” She had told Regina over and over that she wasn’t pining over David, but the dreams made not doing that rather difficult considering the connection they had, “No. Not at all. I can get away for a little while.” Even if she did have something going on, she probably would have told David that she was free, “Coffee sounds wonderful.”

“I missed you, too.” At this point, David figured he had nothing left to lose, so he leaned down to press a kiss to Mary Margaret’s cheek. That seemed like a fair compromise. He couldn’t help the grin that crossed his face when she accepted his invitation, either. “I promise I won’t keep you for too long,” he said, holding the door open for her. “Do you want to walk? It’s a beautiful day.”

Mary Margaret’s lips turned up into a smile as David kissed her cheek and she’d be lying if she said that they didn’t flush slightly. It was ridiculous of course; they were married in her dreams and had done much more than a cheek kiss there. So why was she blushing? “Walking is fine. We can go to the cafe down the block.” She almost couldn’t look away from David, afraid that this was just a dream and that when she woke up he’d still be gone.

“That sounds perfect.” As he followed after her, David stuck his hands in his pockets. He always felt a bit like a teenager around Mary Margaret - it was a good sort of feeling. “We have a lot to catch up on, anyway.”
