Magnus couldn’t be happier that he and Alec were finally making concrete plans for their wedding. They had decided on a date and that they were going to do it in New York, so chances were, Magnus would portal their guests from Orange County to New York. They still needed to tell their respective families and send out invitations, but so far everything was coming along nicely. They had decided that their wedding party would consist of them each picking a Best Man and a Maid of Honor. It was no surprise who Alec was picking; Jace and Isabelle and Magnus had decided on Dorian and Tessa. He had made plans with both of them to ask them and first up was lunch with Dorian.
He’d chosen a rather nice restaurant for them to meet up at for lunch and upon arriving had sent Dorian a quick text to let him to know he was there and to see whether or not he’d arrived yet.
Dorian was rather curious as to why Magnus had scheduled a lunch with him. Sure, they were good friends but it had been some time since they had gotten together. If Dorian had thought about it, it would have been the dinner party when he was still with Agron; but he didn’t give it too much thought.
The Brazilian was still engrossed in his business, it’d become a habit now, rather than a distraction. Still, it was really the only thing he had going for himself, these days. As he entered the place, he spotted Magnus waiting. “Does your fiance know that we’re having a secret rendezvous?” he said with a smirk.
If they hadn’t seen each other in a while, it certainly wasn’t Magnus’ fault. He had wanted to get together with his friend sooner, but Dorian had never felt like going out with him and he supposed he could understand that, what with his breakup and all. “Yes, Alexander knows about our rendezvous. He should be having his own with his best friend too.” It seemed to make the most sense for them to try and ask Jace and Dorian about the same time. “Should we get seated?” He gestured towards the hostess stand.
“Ah,” Dorian responded. “So, you two have an ‘open relationship’?” he questioned with his trademark smirk. Of course, he was only kidding. The amount of time that Dorian was, actually, serious was pretty slim. “As long as we are at a table with good lighting...people deserve to bask in my presence.” He gave a chuckle and headed towards the hostess stand.
“You wish we had an open relationship,” Magnus laughed as the hostess led them to a table that seemed to fit Dorian’s specifics. “But no, Jace is very straight, so even if we did, nothing would be happening there.” Jace was so straight, in fact, that it had taken him forever, in the dreams, to realize that Alec wasn’t.
Dorian gave a slight eyeroll. He’d somewhat given up on relationship for the time being, so the idea wasn’t all that appealing to him. His eyes were soon reading over the menu and more specifically, the drink menu. “Is it too early for a glass of wine?” he asked, still planning on getting wine, despite Magnus’ answer. “And that sounds quite boring. Where’s the fun in being ‘very straight’?”
“No, I don’t think it’s too early. People drink mimosas at breakfast and those had champagne in them. Besides, it’s five o’clock somewhere,” Magnus picked up his drink menu, contemplating what he wanted to drink, “I have no clue. It all seems very dull to me.” If there was one thing Magnus wished he could do with Jace, it was get him a new wardrobe; the boy wore far too much black.
Dorian was only a “weekend morning” drinker, for the most part; however, he was going to drink alcohol even though it wasn’t anywhere near five o’clock. “At least, you agree with me.” He smirked and glanced at his drink menu. “So, what’s the purpose of this meal? I don’t think you’ve ever invited me out for lunch...so, I’m guessing that you, either, have bad news for me or need a favor. What is it? Do you need money?”
Before Magnus could respond the waiter came by to take their drink orders then left to give them time to look over the menu some more. “No, I don’t need money. In fact, I have a shoot next week.” Magnus didn’t have to take his shirt off for this particular shoot, so he didn’t have to watch what he ate quite as much as when it came to those shoots, so he was planning on having a good lunch today, “And it’s not bad news either. Alexander and I have finally set a date and have been making our wedding plans.”
“Ah…” Dorian said, with a small nod. There was a still a part of him that was sad about being single, but he had gotten better. “How long have you two been engaged, again? Since like...Christmas?” He couldn’t remember exactly but it sounded right in his head.
Magnus did feel bad for what Dorian had gone through and was still going through since the person he was in a relationship with in their dreams was with someone else in the waking world, “I proposed on Christmas morning,” It was cliche, but Magnus couldn’t think of a better way to do it. “We decided that we don’t want a long engagement and we’re going to do it in November.” They knew that that didn’t leave a lot of time, but they had enough.
“That’s coming up, rather quick…” Dorian mentioned. Still, he was sure that Magnus and Alec had things figured out. “But I don’t get why we needed to have lunch to discuss your wedding plans…”
“It is, but we figured, why wait?” Magnus shrugged as the waiter came with their drinks and asked if they were ready to order. Once their orders were placed and the waiter had left, Magnus took a sip of his drink before answering Dorian’s question, “Well, I asked you to lunch today, because I wanted to ask you if you’d be my Best Man.” His lips turned up into a smile as he watched Dorian, waiting for his friend’s answer.
Dorian didn’t waste any time taking a drink, once it arrived. Still, he hadn’t been drinking when the man announced that he wanted the Brazilian to be the other’s “best man.” A small smirk came across his lips and he furrowed his brow. “Are you sure that you want drawing attention from you and your ‘husband-to-be’ during the ceremony?” He gave a chuckle, “But yes...I would be more than happy to participate in your wedding.”
Magnus grinned as Dorian accepted, “Fantastic. And I’ve already come to terms with the possibility that you may steal the attention from us.” He couldn’t help but tease Dorian a bit, “And I know it’s fruitless to ask you to be family friendly with your Best Man speech, so I’m not going to ask.” Not that there were many people they were inviting who would be offended by anything Dorian had to say.
“And I have to make a speech? I thought I was just suppose to stand there and look pretty…” he grumbled, clearly not being serious about his comment. Dorian narrowed his eyes, “I have one stipulation...I get to dress you and your beau, and you both will do a modeling shoot when the time comes.” Sure, Dorian was throwing business into the mix but it would certainly gain him some popularity to those who were planning to get married, too.
Magnus wasn’t the least bit surprised that Dorian requested to dress them, “I think that can be arranged.” He wasn’t sure if Alec was going to want to wear gold like was tradition in the dreams, but either way, he was sure that Dorian would be able to figure it all out. “Alec may be reluctant about the modeling, but I’ll convince him.” Honestly, Alec was more than hot enough to be a model.
“You’d better convince him cause I think you two could be good for business,” Dorian said with a smirk. “You two should come over this weekend, so I can get your measurements and get an idea of what look and style you guys want. The sooner I get things clarified the sooner I can get them made.” He took another drink, more than glad about how things were going.
Magnus smiled and took a sip of his drink, “I’m sure I can convince him.” As far as Magnus was concerned, Alec was model material and he told him that often. “This weekend sounds good to me. I’ll check if Alexander is working and let you know.” The last thing Magnus had expected was custom tuxes, but he was extremely grateful to Dorian for insisting and was looking forward to seeing what he would come up with.
