He wasn't actually sure of why he was here. It was supposed to be a lonely night in with a bottle of cheap champagne and a mountain of paperwork. When he was younger he used to think it must have been a nice job, running a company. Dad made it look simple enough. But he could see, now that he was buried to the neck in his own company, that it wasn't as easy as it seemed.
Jaime had learned, a little too late, that this was not quite his forte. He'd rather do more legwork, or do anything that got him out of the office. But what could he do now? Sell the company and slink back to his father like a puppy with his tail between his legs? He'd sooner pour the cheap bottle of champagne over his head and light himself on fire.
But he hadn't come out here to think about all the work that was sitting back home. He was there at the Wharf on time, a lone man sitting at the bar with his head lowered, dirty blond hair dull under the dim light. He traced his fingertips over the scar on his palm as he waited. It had been so long since that unfortunate tequila incident that he had almost forgotten about it.
