The whole car ride to his new condo Caleb had a grin on his face. He hadn’t told Hanna where they were going. Hell, he hadn’t even told her he was planning on moving. Yes, there was the whole honesty policy but he wanted this to be a surprise. For her.
Instead of pulling into the driveway he parked on the street, jumping out of the car to go open the door for her. He could be a gentleman sometimes. “Shall we?” he asked holding his arm out for Hanna.
Hanna really had no idea what Caleb had planned. It was basically just a ‘I want to show you something’ and that was it. No hints, nothing. Admittedly she was a bit distracted, nothing terribly so. It was just awkward trying to figure out how to tell her real life boyfriend that in the dreams, she and her fiance had finally picked a date for the wedding. Like, they had the honesty policy and she had said that if anything major happened in regards to a relationship she’d been convinced wouldn’t amount to anything….
But now she had dreamt it and she was stuck on the how to say it. So she had spent most of the car ride staring out the window in though. She’d probably just blurt it out. It was Hanna, but that didn’t mean she didn’t want to figure out how to say it.
Suddenly though they were stopped and Caleb had opened the door.
“Huh? Oh. Yeah, let’s go.” Getting out, Hanna took his arm, intrigued by what had him deciding to be a gentleman this time around.
Caleb was so excited to show Hanna their new place. Well technically his for now until Hanna agreed to move in, which she hopefully would today. But with all his excitement he didn’t even notice how distracted Hanna was. He usually picked up on things like that. But this was a big day for them.
With her on his arm he walked up to the condo, opening up the door with a key and led her inside. “Well,” Caleb said smiling at her, his eyes shining. “What do you think?”
Looking at the new condo, Hanna blinked some in confusion before realizing that well, Caleb’s lease on his current apartment was almost up. They’d looked at it a few days after their first date. So it wasn’t so shocking that he found a new one now that he had Techno.
“It’s nice.”
Not that she could figure out why he seemed so excited about it. It was a nice condo and she’d helped to decorate the other one so she figured that she’d do something similar here as well. But why he seemed almost giddy? That was a bit harder to figure out.
“Techno will definitely appreciate the space.”
“So, you like it?” he asked grin still on his face. She seemed to but she wasn’t quite as excited as he was. Oh right, he hadn’t told her it was for the both of them yet. Good job, Caleb.
“Because I was thinking you could move in here. With me.” Not by herself. Caleb was generous at times, but not generous enough to just buy his girlfriend her own place. Plus he didn’t exactly have that kind of money.
“Yeah.” While Hanna knew she’d be there plenty of time anyway, she still wasn’t quite sure why Caleb was just so insistent on if she liked it or not or why he seemed like a kid excited about…. Oh. So that was what it was.
Looking at Caleb, all Hanna could do for a moment was blink.
“....What?”
Did she just hear that correctly?
Caleb was pleased that Hanna seemed shocked. But really she should have seen it coming. “With how much time you spend at my place anyway it makes sense,” Caleb offered with a half smile. Plus they had been together for almost a year now and he had no plans on that ever ending. Despite dreams about Spencer, he knew Hanna was the one for him. Not to mention just how much she had stood by him for.
“If you’re ready to take the next step in our relationship,” he added eyes hopeful. He did remember the time he told Hanna he loved her and she hadn’t said it back. Even though he was pretty sure this was what she wanted he wasn’t going to force it.
“I…. wow.” Because while it might have seemed like something that she should have figured out, this entire thing just blindsided Hanna. Part of it was because of the latest dream and the fact that there was officially a wedding date planned for her and Jordan. (She was pretty sure it wouldn’t last. She knew how these things went.) But then there was the fact she was nineteen and even though it was nearly a year together….
And what if what went wrong in the dreams was because they had moved in together right out of high school? What if they were about to repeat the mistakes from that? Hanna knew what had happened, but Caleb only knew from her and…. Wow, was this really happening?
“You don’t think it’s too fast?” While blunt and rash in decision making, those decisions usually came back to bite her. Add in her mom and wow.
They weren’t right out of high school. Caleb definitely wasn’t and Hanna was going into her second year of college. It was time if you asked him. “I don’t,” he said confidently. “We’ve already been through a lot, enough to last a lifetime not just a year.” Seriously if kidnapping wasn’t going to come between them, nothing would. As far as Caleb was concerned this would only bring them closer together.
Okay. Valid point. They had definitely gone through a lot in the past year thanks to Orange County being, well, Orange County. Admittedly nothing like she could recall growing up to such an extent and the whole kidnapping thing. But she still worried. Or was just more worried because of the latest dream. “Even if it seems in the dreams Jordan and I chose a wedding date?”
She had said she’d be honest about developments on that front even if they didn’t like them. But it was bothering her and the timing and better to get it all out and see if Caleb was still so sure about this idea. It still didn’t answer the question about her mom but that was something she would figure out soon enough.
Well that certainly made his smile disappear. It didn’t change his mind but he just didn’t like thinking about Hanna’s dream fiance. “Oh,” Caleb finally said. “Well that’s good for you guys I guess.” He was trying his best not to sound bitter about it. “But yes, even if that. I’m not going to hold your dream engagement against you.”
“I guess,” because it wasn’t like Hanna liked thinking about Jordan, but given Caleb had been all ‘even if it’s hard to talk about we need to be honest’ when she’d been trying to come to terms with the Spencer thing and break up thing in the dream, well… that’s what she was doing. Being honest and saying it. Because what happened if they were living together and she knew about that and then Caleb dreamt it? And it was Hanna so of course even in her trying to figure out how to say something, it just came out.
Still, he did say that it wasn’t something that would change his opinion on the matter. Which okay, again illogical that Hanna actually worried about it, but it also wasn’t like Hanna was the most rational of people. So just getting that cleared up was good.
“I mean, I’d need to talk to my mom about it and it’s not like I make all that much with my internship….” But it wasn’t like she didn’t want to live with him. She was just scared of moving too fast and everything blowing up in their faces at some point like it had in the dreams.
Of course Caleb was glad she had told him. It was better finding out from her than from the dreams. Although he still didn’t like it that they had actually set a date. So much for the engagement not lasting. But he had Hanna here and that was what mattered.
Caleb honestly didn’t care if Hanna helped with the rent or not. Stark paid him well. But he knew she would want to help out, being Hanna and all. “We’ll figure out the rent,” he assured her. Obviously he knew she would have to discuss it with her mom as well. Though he thought it would be more of a straight out yes than it was but still. It sounded like a yes. “So does that mean you want to move in?”
While Hanna knew that Stark paid well, Hanna wasn’t comfortable with the idea of being solely dependent on Caleb for the rent. She wanted some independence and that felt a way to have it, to put forth something even if it wasn’t much. “Obviously I want to. I’m just getting overly worried about the logics of it all.”
“Don’t,” Caleb said smile back on his face as he took a step closer to her. “We’ll figure it all out. I promise.” And he meant that too. There was still a few weeks before he was moving in. Although he hoped Hanna would at the same time as him but still they had time. For now though he just wanted to kiss his girlfriend which is exactly what he did.
