Of course Leon wasn’t with her when she had her vision. Sometimes she wished Leon could just stay with her at all times. But then she remembered he had a girlfriend now and she really didn’t want to witness what they did in the privacy of their homes. Plus now that Lowell had showed up on the network she didn’t want Leon to meet him either. Who knew how he would react if he found out someone from her dreams was around? But still it was very inconvenient when she had a vision and had to go find him.
First she went to the station and of course he wasn’t there. One of the guys mentioned McNally’s. Liv should have known to check there first. She rushed into the bar and spotted Leon right away. “What are you doing drinking? We have a murder to solve!”
Another day, another dollar. Since his talk with Logan, Leon was no longer itching to quit his job, but it didn't mean he was about to be as dedicated to the work as he had been once before. When his shift was up, he was out the door to have a couple of drinks and then maybe give Revy a call and see if she wanted to get together.
Though those plans went out the window when Liv showed up at the bar. He frowned, looked pointedly at his watch, and then looked back at Liv. “Why the hell wouldn’t I be drinking?” he asked. “I’ve been off work for forty-five minutes.”
“And?” Liv asked tapping her foot impatiently. “That doesn’t mean you just stop trying to figure out who murdered that poor girl.” Was it just her or was Leon more relaxed about his job lately? Well no time to dwell on that now. “I had a vision,” she added because that usually explained things. And if that didn’t get Leon off his ass she didn’t know what would.
Leon sighed. Of course she had a vision. And while Leon was pretty sure that whatever vision she had would still be valid in the morning, when a lead just sought him out at the bar he couldn’t really ignore it. “Alright,” Leon said, and he chugged back the rest of his nearly-full pint. “Tell me about this vision of yours.”
Liv was not a fan of this chill attitude of Leon’s. What was wrong with him? There was still a murder to be solved. But then not everyone felt quite as attached as she did. Considering she literally took on the vicim’s personality and had visions about them. “Okay, so,” Liv said words rushing out of her mouth. “There was this ‘Meat is Murder’ sign. Which was a little weird I think she was protesting alone. Don’t people usually protest in groups?” Because Liv apparently knew so much about protesting. “And she was at some farm I think. It was outside and there were lots of cows.”
“You ate a vegetarian?” Leon asked, raising his eyebrows. “That’s ironic. But yeah, that’s a little weird. You must’ve eaten one of those crazy ones.” He paused. “Not that all vegetarians aren’t crazy,” he added, laughing at his own cleverness. “So we’ve got a protester and a farm. Alright, let’s head to the station. We can look at what farms have been getting protested.”
“Shut up!” Liv replied though her tone was light. But really she didn’t want to think about the whole vegetarian who ate brains thing. It made her feel nauseous. And she wasn’t at all amused with his joke. “See! This is why you can never leave the office. Come on, let’s go,” she grabbed his hand practically dragging him off the bar stool. This was becoming a habit with her lately, dragging Leon places. Whoops?
“Yeah, it’s a wonder I ever leave. It’s not like I have a life or anything,” Leon grumbled, though there really wasn’t any conviction in his sarcasm. It was only recently after all when Leon had decided to have a life outside of his job.
“Why am I not surprised you’re back?” the desk sergeant asked as Leon walked back in.
“Oh shut up,” Leon grumbled, which just made the man chortle behind his desk. Leon made his way to his desk, and started up his computer.
Liv just smirked at the sergeant’s question following Leon to his desk. Again, she tapped her foot impatiently, arms folded over her chest as she waited for him to search. “Well?” she asked when she couldn’t handle the waiting anymore.
“Did this vegetarian of yours have the patience of a six-year-old too?” Leon snapped, sounding a little more irate than he actually was. Seriously. He’d just barely finished typing in “farm protests Irvine” one key at a time into the search bar and she was already getting on his back about it? He frowned a little at the long list of protests that came up. “Fuck. These vegetarians are busier than I gave them credit for.” He turned the monitor toward her. “What do you think? Start at the top and work our way down?”
Geesh. No need to be so rude Leon. Although she probably deserved it a little bit. She had ditched him at that expensive bar not too long ago. “Apparently,” she said with a shrug.
Finally the list was up. And damn, it was long. “Well, it’s not like was have much of a choice.” She moved closer to the computer eyes slowly taking in every name to see if it struck up a vision. Unfortunately it didn’t.
Leon sighed heavily, then opened the first link in the police database, because obviously protests are something the police keep track of shhhhh. “You get a good look at the farm in question? Stop me if any of these look familiar.”
Liv frowned at the first farm as she looked through the photos. Nothing was jumping out at her. “Not really, but this doesn’t look familiar.” On to the next.
Leon gave a heavy sigh. Without her having seen a good view of it, the chances of them passing right past it were pretty high. Might be time to settle in for a long night. “I’m going to grab the a cup of the mud we call coffee around here,” he said, passing the mouse off to her. “You want one?”
“Yeah,” Liv said taking over the mouse. “Put some hot sauce in it,” she added already clicking onto the next farm. She had a feeling this was going to be a long night.
Leon rolled his eyes. He would never get used to that request. That was the kind of thing that they did when they were razzing rookie cops, not something that you actually did because people actually wanted hot sauce in their coffee. But he was getting used to this whole zombie thing anyway. He got the two coffees, making sure to add a lot of hot sauce to one of them, and brought them back to the desk.
“Here you go,” he said, then frowned. “Liv?” She seemed a little spacey, though it only took him a moment to recognize the look in her eye. He took a quick look at the computer, sure that whatever was on screen must have triggered some kind of vision.
Liv was transported back onto the farm, not at the time of the murder but an earlier time it seemed like. The farmer was yelling at her to get off his property, rifle and all. Then she was running and as she exited she saw the sign.
“Huh, what?” Liv asked once she came back to reality. Oh her coffee right. “Thanks,” Liv said taking a sip as she processed her information. “Milton Meat Processing,” she repeated.
“Milton Meat Processing,” Leon said, writing it out in his notepad. Then he turned the computer toward him. “A meat farm,” he said, frowning to himself. “Just fucking great. You see anything? This vegan of ours set off a stampede and get themselves killed?”
“He was coming at me-her with a gun,” Liv said with a frown. “Nothing with a stampede though. I think it was earlier on. Still that has to be something!”
Leon pinched the bridge of his nose. It was beginning to sound like it might actually be a murder. “You’re right,” he said. “It’s definitely something. We can go question this Milton guy tomorrow. I’ll see what I can dig up in the meantime.”
She was going to have to wait a whole day? “Fine,” Liv said with a sigh standing up. “But keep your sell on you. I’ll call if I get another vision.”
