Tyler’s current studio apartment was the first place he’d ever lived that didn’t have a hot tub. The Lockwood mansion of course had one, as well as a fair sized swimming pool, and even his frat house at Duke had involved a hot tub on the deck. He’d forgotten how much he’d missed them. At least Stefan wasn’t hot tubless though, and Tyler was more than happy to take advantage of it. He leaned back in the tub, cold beer in hand. “So, how’s things been?” Tyler asked, once he got comfortable.
“Good, good.” Stefan was pretty comfortable himself, leaning back with his own beer. Anna had picked a really amazing house. Even more so now that they had a spare room. Anna had threatened to set it up as a guest bedroom, an exercise room, a theater, a giant closet… but Stefan’s old room (now that he was living in Caroline’s old room) was still sitting empty.
“How about you?” Stefan asked. They could start with pleasantries. Maybe talk about the girls. Then get into the Dream stuff.
“Good,” Tyler said, taking a sip of beer. “Oh, hey, I ran into Bubbles at the mall the other day.”
Fuck. Just the mention of his girlfriend was enough to turn Stefan into a grinning idiot. Thank God vampires didn’t blush. “Oh yeah?” He asked, curious about what Tyler and Bubbles might have talked about at the mall. Probably Blossom. Or… that kind of thing.
“Yeah,” Tyler said. “I was off buying shoes, and she needed shoes and scrubs for school. I ended up treating her to lunch after.” Partly to get to know more about the Professor, as he had yet to meet Blossom’s father. It had actually been kind of fun. They’d modelled shoes and Bubbles had modelled her scrubs, and he’d been pleased at how well he’d gotten along with Blossom’s sister even without Blossom around. “She’s a sweet girl.”
“She’s amazing,” Stefan agreed. By the light tone in Stefan’s voice and the smile on his face, it was obvious he was also pleased at how well Tyler seemed to get along with Bubbles. The vampire was absolutely smitten over this girl. He gave a little chuckle as he lifted his beer to gulp from the bottle. “I never in a million years would have thought you and I would end up dating a pair of sisters.”
“No kidding. When I pictured who’d I’d date sisters with, I always pictured it with someone on the football team.” Really, he and Stefan hadn’t really gotten along very well in school, so it was strange to see that they’d become friends since they graduated. He wasn’t sure if the shared dreams and the whole Tyler-nearly-killing-Stefan thing made it more or less surprising that they seemed to get along now.
Tyler and Stefan ran in the same circles, for the most part. At least, they were friends with the same girls, Caroline and Elena. But Stefan hadn’t become close with Caroline until recently, and up until the Dreams he hadn’t had any reason to hang out with Tyler. Now he was finding that he liked the guy. It was safe to hang with someone who knew about your secrets, and didn’t judge you for them.
“Actually, I never thought about it before. I’ve never considered who my girlfriend’s sisters might be dating. So long as it wasn’t Damon.” Even if he had the chance, Stefan couldn’t date Elena. With Damon and Katherine together it would make for a very strange, incestuous square.
“Yeah, that would be bad,” Tyler said. Then he smirked a little. “Though, I don’t know if that’s just because he’s your brother. I wouldn’t want to date into the same family as Damon either.” He and Damon really didn’t get along.
Stefan laughed. It felt good to laugh. He’d been in such a good mood lately. “I guess I’m not alone in that, then.” Weird. Not that Stefan was imagining anything would happen between himself and Elena… considering she and Katherine were sisters, and Katherine and Damon were an item. “Besides, I’m in love with Bubbles.” It felt weird to say it but he knew it was true. Saying it aloud to Tyler made it even more real, somehow. “I’m not at all interested in anyone else.”
“Love huh?” Tyler asked, taking a sip of his beer. “You and Bubbles are that serious?” Well, if he thought about it, he probably loved Blossom too. But he hadn’t admitted that much aloud yet.
Stefan wasn’t ashamed to say it. He’d said it to Bubbles, and he’d told Lexi, Anna and Caroline, too. Funny how so many of his friends were girls. He nodded, though in response to Tyler’s question. “I’m not sure it’s possible for me to be anything but serious with her.”
“I take it you guys have had sex then?” At least, he assumed if people were calling themselves serious, they probably had.
“Yeah,” Stefan replied. He was torn between being proud and embarrassed by admitting it. This was a slightly strange conversation to be having with Tyler Lockwood, especially considering he had just found out that Tyler and Caroline were a thing. “Why?” He asked, suddenly wondering if Tyler was digging for information. Was he going to be in trouble with Blossom or The Professor for this?
“Just curious,” Tyler said, shrugging. He didn’t think it was that weird of a question. It was the kind of locker room talk that he often had with his teammates. “It’s just that Blossom and I haven’t yet.”
“Oh.” Stefan probably shouldn't have been surprised by that. Maybe? But he was. He'd sort of assumed that Tyler and Blossom were already doing it, and that was part of why Bubbles wanted to. “Why not?”
Tyler shrugged. “I don’t really want to push things,” he admitted. “I don’t want to seem like that guy, you know? The one who pressures his girlfriend into things.” The kind of guy he’d been before he moved to the Orange County, really. He probably hadn’t made the best impression with Blossom, and he was trying to do better.
“No, I know. Believe me, I know.” Stefan had been struggling with the same situation with Bubbles. But he’d fallen in love with her, and what they’d shared was very special. Hopefully Tyler and Blossom could have the same thing. “And when she’s ready I’m sure she’ll tell you. That’s what happened with Bubbles--she told me when she was ready.”
“Hope it’s soon,” Tyler sighed. He didn’t mean to sound impatient but dammit, a wolf had needs, but he had no plans on pressuring Blossom. He probably deserved the Boyfriend of the Year award for his patience though. “What about their dad? You met him yet?”
Stefan gave a little snort as he lifted his bottle for a gulp. Because, yeah, he understood. He’d been both excited and terrified about sex with Bubbles. Losing control was a bad thing. But physical intimacy was a good thing. And they’d gone slow, so they could stop if they had to before he went all crazy and ripped her head off. Boyfriend of the year for that one, too?
“Briefly. In passing. I have a feeling I’m going to have to sit down with the man eventually.” Stefan said. “You?”
Tyler shook his head. “No. We’ve managed to avoid the whole ‘meet the parents’ thing so far.” Which Tyler counted as a blessing. Not just because the thought of meeting Blossom’s dad made him uncharacteristically nervous, but also because the idea of Blossom meeting his parents was not something he was looking forward to. Ever.
“Maybe it’ll happen eventually.” Stefan mused. He shrugged his shoulders gently. He was still incredibly intimidated by Bubbles’ family--even Blossom and Buttercup, to a lesser extent--even though he knew he could simply compel them to like him. To approve. But starting a relationship with lies… that seemed like a bad way to go about things. “Fingers crossed it does, anyway.” Because it’d be good for things to last that long, wouldn’t it?
“Probably sooner than I’d like,” Tyler sighed. “I wonder how much this Professor knows about the dreams. And whether he’d approve of his daughters dating a vampire and a werewolf.”
“I have no idea.” Stefan said, frowning a little at that thought. “But if he does know about the Dreams, then he’d know his daughters are superheroes, and they can hold their own against a vampire and a werewolf.” Stefan paused a bit. “...you know Bubbles has super strength and speed? I’d offer to test which of us was stronger or faster but… I’m a little worried she might win. Then where’s my ego?” He was teasing, but there was a kernel of truth in there somewhere.
Tyler laughed. “I got used to that dating Caroline in the dreams,” he said, smiling a little. As a hybrid, he was stronger than Caroline, but when he’d just been a werewolf it had been a whole lot of Caroline protecting him and not the other way around. “It’s tough, but you’d get used to it. Blossom can these pink laser beams from her eyes, but I’m still stronger. For now, at least.”
“You know there’s going to be a time when they can take us down.” Stefan actually enjoyed it. Hey, Bubbles could hold her own, if need be. Don’t let her cute, bubbly exterior fool you. “And it’s probably coming sooner than we’d think.” Kinda good for someone like Stefan, who could turn Ripper or no-humanity or something. Having someone as strong and fast as Bubbles to help keep him in line was a good thing.
“Yeah, I know. I like to think she likes me enough that she wouldn’t though.” Getting beaten up by his girlfriend was not on his list of things to do. “But yeah. These dreams come too quickly sometimes.” And not quickly enough others. He was still frustrated that he hadn’t become a hybrid just yet. “At least the girls’ dreams aren’t like ours.”
“Just because they can doesn’t mean they will.” Hopefully. “I dunno what I’d do if Bubbles had to go through what we go through.” He’d be fighting so much harder to do something about it if he knew that Bubbles was struggling with it. As it was he was pretty convinced there was nothing they could do and he was trying to make peace with that.
Tyler had never been much of a problem solver himself. Once someone discovered the key to a problem, he’d work his ass of to help solve it - assuming there was something to do. But he didn’t even know the first place to start with this whole dream mess. And, well, truth be told, he was getting used to this whole werewolf thing. It would maybe have been easier to cope with if his current dreams didn’t show him that that wasn’t the end all - that he’d move on to being a vampire-werewolf hybrid. The fact that he hadn’t yet was pissing him off, but there was only so much he could do, and the best thing was to keep living life like nothing had changed. “Me neither,” Tyler said. He lifted his beer to his lips. “But at least we don’t have to wonder about that, right?”
“Thankfully.” Stefan also drank from his bottle. Then he reached over to the hot tubs controls to turn the temperature up a few degrees. Without Anna in the tub they could bump it up almost as hot as they wanted. The hour water was so relaxing. And that was the point, right?
