Who: Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass What: Chuck finds out Blair is in the hospital When: Backdated: Tuesday, September 6th. Late Afternoon Where: The Hospital Rating/Warnings: Mostly Family Friendly; Mentions of Grounder Sickness Status: Complete
According to the doctors, it appeared that whatever sickness had affected Blair and quite a few others in Orange County had left her system, but they wanted to keep her for at least another day as a result of the amount of blood she had lost. They given her a transfusion at her father’s insistence the day before and she really was feeling much better, but she wasn’t about to argue. Normally she might have, insisting that she needed to get back to work, but when one vomits blood in front of their boss, one isn’t quite as eager to get back to work so she decided to try and enjoy this down time now that she no longer had a fever and felt her strength coming back.
To say that Blair had freaked out when blood began coming out of her eyes was an understatement. She didn’t know what was going on and then the whole vomiting blood thing had started. It had gotten to the point, once she’d been admitted to the hospital that her father had even called her mother and Eleanor got on the first plane out to Orange County from wherever it had been that she was at that time. Both of her parents and Roman had spent quite a lot of time with her over the last two days and once it looked like she was going to be alright, she’d insisted that they all go and get some rest, because none of them had slept. So now Blair was by herself, the only sounds in the room were her heart monitor and she was contemplating getting some sleep of her own before the doctors came back to run more tests.
When Harold called Chuck he immediately dropped everything, cancelling his meetings for the day and heading straight for the hospital. Things were still rocky between him and Blair but hearing about what was going on with her? There was no way he couldn’t be there.
He didn’t think much about what he was doing. After arriving at the hospital he made a quick stop at the gift shop, purchasing a bouquet of flowers for Blair. It wasn’t until he actually got to the hospital that he stopped, standing in the doorway with flowers in hand. Blair looked so fragile lying there in the hospital bed. “Your dad called.” It was the only thing Chuck could think of to say.
Chuck was the last person Blair had expected to visit her; considering the way their last conversation had ended. She would have been less surprised to see Serena standing in her doorway especially when she knew that Serena was currently back in New York. Aside from her surprise at seeing Chuck, she was very aware of just how bad she looked at that moment and made a futile attempt at mixing her lank hair. “I’m surprised you didn’t just send a telegram.” Normally her tone would have carried some sarcasm mixed with a little venom, but all it carried at the moment was exhaustion and the last thing she wanted was to verbally spar with Chuck, but the mere fact that he had shown up, and with flowers, gave her the tiniest bit of hope even if dream!Blair had lost all hope for her future.
Ah yes, being deathly ill didn’t appear to be a good reason for the dreams to take a break. What little sleep she had gotten the last few days had been plagued by dreams of her utter failure. Her acceptance to Yale had been revoked and no other school would take her then she’d made a fool of herself at Nate’s grandfather’s. Things were not looking good for Queen B.
Although Chuck was worried about Blair that didn’t mean he was going to turn into a ball of mush. He was still Chuck Bass after all. “I figured deathly ill deserved an in person visit,” he quipped as he fully stepped into the room, right up to Blair’s bed side. “I got you some flowers,” he added holding the up for her to see better. “Is there someone around who can get you a vase?” there had to be right? What else was the hospital staff for. Well other than the whole saving lives part.
Blair couldn’t help but feel a tiny flicker of hope at Chuck’s words. He claimed that she deserved better yet he was the one who came to the hospital with flowers, “They’re beautiful. Thank you.” She glanced around the room briefly then picked up the remote with the call button and pressed it. It only took a moment before a nurse came in and asked if she was alright to which Blair responded with her request for a vase.
Once the nurse was gone, Blair turned back to Chuck, “So, my father called you?” She was actually surprised that he had called Chuck out of everyone she knew, not that she minded Chuck being there so long as she didn’t have to do any verbal sparring. Her heart simply wasn’t up to par today.
“Yeah,” Chuck confirmed even though he had already said as much. He almost added something sarcastic but now was not the time. “I suppose he thought I should know.” And Harold was correct in that assumption. No matter how things were between them he did want to know how Blair was.
The nurse came back with the vase. Chuck put the flowers inside and set it down on the table by her bed. “How are you feeling?”
Blair couldn’t imagine why her father had thought Chuck should know she was in the hospital. It wasn’t as if she’d ever told him how she felt about him; only Hanna knew that. At home the only times she mentioned Chuck was when she was complaining about him, but she’d never mentioned her feelings. “Like death. I’m sure I look like it too.” Not even when she was bulimic had Blair ever felt as bad as she did after being ill the last few days.
“You don’t,” Chuck replied honestly. Although if he had seen her when the illness was most active and seen her eyes bleeding he probably would have thought she looked like death. “What did the doctor say? You’re going to be okay, right?” Chuck hadn’t bothered to demand answers when he got the phone call. He had just been concerned about Blair and needed to see her. Now that he had, the concern that she would be alright in the future was taking over.
Honestly, she wouldn’t have blamed him for thinking that. The whole experience had been horrible and Blair couldn’t wait till she was able to go home, “I’m going to be fine. My father made them run every test imaginable on me to make sure. And they want to keep me one more night before letting me go home.”
“Good,” Chuck replied a look of relief washing over his face. Part of him wanted to have the doctors do another round of tests just be sure, but it wasn’t his place. “Apparently there was something going around.” He saw other people talking about it on that inane network he was still on. He supposed it came in handy times like this, but most of the time he wasn’t sure why he even had it.
“What’re they saying caused it? Zika? Ebola?” There was always some random reason behind all of the things that happened in Orange County. Whatever this had been, it certainly hadn’t been normal, so Blair was fairly certain it was linked to the strange things that happened every so often,
“Neither,” Chuck replied with a frown. “It’s from someone’s dreams.” Times like these he was glad his dreams were mostly normal. It was basically just reliving high school again only with some bitch writing about his life on the internet.
“I figured that out. I meant what is the news claiming it is. They always make up something to cover the strange things that happen here.” Blair didn’t know who made up the cover stories for the things that went on, but someone did it. “And who the hell dreams about something like that anyway? And I thought dealing with Gossip Girl was bad.”
“Oh. Ebola or something,” Chuck shrugged. He didn’t pay too much attention to the cover ups or really care who was covering things up. “I have no idea. And I don’t want to know. I’m almost glad we only have to worry about the gossip bitch.”
“I know. Our dreams might be dramatic, but this was too dramatic even for me,” Blair tried to hide the yawn that followed her sentence just as the nurse came back in and announced that visiting hours were going to be ending soon. “I suppose I should try and get some rest. One or both of my parents are bound to be coming back tonight and won’t leave me alone unless I’m sleeping.” As annoying as it was to have her parents hovering the last few days, it showed just how much they cared about her and she was grateful for that.
Chuck had to agree with her on that one. But right, rest. Now that he had seen for himself that Blair would be okay there wasn’t much of a reason to stay anyway. “Feel better,” Chuck’s form as goodbye before walking out of the room.
