Who: Team Monster Movie
What: Chloe brings Henry to work with her
Where: Movie premiere in LA
When: Tonight
Rating: PG
Status: Complete
Tonight was a very important night for Chloe because she was taking Henry out to a work function for the first time. She was a little nervous for him because her coworkers could be a little intense like most people in the industry. But, there was a movie premiere and though she would be doing a bit of work he would at least get to come and experience her world for an evening. It was also a really good excuse to see Henry in a suit and she was more than happy to embrace any of those excuses. Things had been going well with him so far and she was really smitten, which was apparently written on her face while at work. The ribbing she would endure from her coworkers would be worth all of this.
The roommate had gone out for the evening and she had invited Henry to come up to her place to get ready. Her dress was on and she was currently in the bathroom finishing up her hair and makeup. She didn’t get to dress as amazing as the movie stars that would be there, but she always enjoyed being able to wear something pretty for an evening. There would be a headset attached to her for a brief period of time tonight until everyone went inside for the movie and then she would be free to snuggle up against her boyfriend in a dark movie theater. Leaning in a little closer to the mirror she put her earrings in and hummed along to the music she was playing on her phone.
This was a first for Henry. He had never been to a premier before. Not even an independant film premier. He was a little nervous. Actually, truth be told, he was a lot nervous. There were going to be a lot of people at this event. A lot of important people. People Chloe worked with. God, Henry wanted to make a good impression. He had never been all that great with people, especially large gatherings of them. People were hard to read and understand and Henry often found himself saying the wrong things at inappropriate times. The last thing he wanted to do was embarrass Chloe, or worse, get her into some kind of trouble.
This was also their first formal outting together as a couple. The first time he would get to see her dressed to the nines. That made everything worth it. Henry actually had two nice suits he kept in reserve for when he took freelance jobs as a photographer for a wedding or other such events that required him to look more than simply professional. He dug out what he believed to be the nicer of the two from its garment bag. He’d showered, shaved and attempted to tame his shaggy hair so that it at least would stay out of his eyes.
He was ready before Chloe was and was waiting in her living room, a little awkwardly, going over in his head what he would say when introduced to her co-workers and hoping that he’d be a good reflection on her. He really wanted this to go well.
He would be just fine. Chloe knew it would all go well. They would probably be incredibly busy for the first part of the evening and she would have to ditch him for a little bit, but he would be able to handle himself. She would introduce him to her coworkers and possibly some of the higher ups if they wanted to meet him, but she didn’t want to scare him with too much too quickly. Her hope for tonight was to have a lovely night together and potentially give him some new contacts that could give him some new photography work. Hopefully he wouldn’t mind her doing that - she was just proud of her boyfriend and how amazing his work was.
Makeup was complete, earrings were put in, and music was turned off. With one last look at herself in the mirror she smiled and blushed. This was exciting - a glamorous night out with her boyfriend and she felt butterflies in her stomach as she left the bathroom and made her way to the living room and took in the first sight of Henry dressed up in his suit. “You look amazing and I think I might need to go grab my lipstick so I can mess it up and reapply,” Chloe commented with a bright smile as she crossed the room to him and gently ran her hand along his suit jacket.
Chloe looked beautiful in her dress. Again, this was their first formal outing together and the first time Henry’d had the chance to see his girlfriend truly dressed up. The words he would say to her coworkers were forgotten the moment she stepped up to him. A lot of his nervousness about the evening was forgotten too. Chloe just had a way of making everything better just by being next to him.
“Thanks,” he said, a little color rushing up to his cheeks. “I usually only wear this to weddings and quinceaneras I’m hired to photograph. It’s kinda weird to wear it to something like this. Weird, but exciting.” He took her hand and squeezed it. “You look beautiful.” He kissed her cheek, careful not to mess up the make-up she had painstakingly applied. “I almost don’t want to share you with the rest of the world, but at the same time, I can’t wait to show you off.” This beautiful woman who had chosen to be with him out of all the men in the world.
“Mmm, I like you wearing it. And don’t worry, when we get home I am all yours,” Chloe reminded him with a playful smile as she leaned in to give him a proper kiss. Lipstick be damned. Her boyfriend was looking incredibly attractive and she was more than tempted to rumple her clothes on her bedroom floor, “And don’t be so nervous. You’re going to do great. You’re basically going to be eye candy - although I’m really tempted to put you with the paparazzi and see how you do.” He would probably take a lot better photos than some of the men that came to the premieres.
With a small sigh she pulled away from him, “Alright, we should get going so I’m not late and before I do something that will make us incredibly late.” Once they got home though - all bets were off. She dashed to the bathroom really quickly to grab her lipstick and then came back out to grab her purse and slip her heels on. With those heels the height difference between them wasn’t as obvious, but she grabbed her keys before grabbing his hand, “Come on, handsome. I have to show you off.”
Henry had never considered himself to be eye-candy, but he actually kind of liked the idea of Chloe showing him off to her colleagues. He cleaned up pretty good when he put his mind to it and this was his favorite suit out of the two he had.
He put his arm around Chloe’s shoulders once they were out of her apartment and in the hall. He was careful not to crush what she had done with her hair and kept his arm loose along her back. “I’d be a terrible paparazzi,” he said. “There’s way too much competition in that field.” There was competition in just about every field, Henry himself had had to compete for the freelance work he’d done before coming to California, but to be a paparazzi, you needed to be especially cutthroat. “I prefer to stalk actual wildlife rather than some poor celebrity who's just trying to live their life. Less lawsuits that way too,” he laughed.
It was a damn shame that he didn’t know how attractive he was, but that was probably what kept him so sweet. A soft laugh was given when he explained why he didn’t go for being a part of the paparazzi mindset that overran LA most of the time. “That is very true. Glad I’m dating a smart and reasonable man,” Chloe teased with a grin as she gently pressed against his side and they made their way out of the apartment. Once in the car she took her heels off so she could drive since it was her credentials to get into the parking area for the premiere.
Car was taken by valet and she pulled the badges out of her purse, handing Henry’s over, and looping her own over her head. Shoes were back on and she held onto his hand as they made their way up to the check in. Chloe breezed them through the check in process and was given her equipment, which basically required a walkie and earpiece. “Alright, I’m in charge of moving people along on the red carpet. Easy work tonight, which is nice. Do you want to meet people first or wander around? You can either wander around while I’m working or else hang out by me.”
“I think I should meet people first,” Henry answered, “I’ll run a lesser risk of saying the wrong thing to the wrong person later.” He smiled at her. There were a lot of people around and subconsciously Henry kept close to Chloe, but watched fascinated at everything that was going on around him. Going to a premier was one thing, but getting to see the behind the scenes of one was even better. “Is there anything I can do to help?” He asked. “Traffic control or something?”
“You will be just fine,” she reassured him with a smile as she reached over to squeeze his hand, “But let’s get introductions out of the way first then if you’re so worried. Afterwards you can either join me for traffic control or else go sit at the bar and see if a celebrity hits on you.” Yep, those were his only two options. And with the way he was looking in that suit she knew someone would probably hit on him. She didn’t give him a chance to reply as she spotted a couple coworkers and brought him over to them. The next thirty minutes or so was just a blur of people weaving in and out of conversations with them as they waited for the premiere to get started and Chloe didn’t think he was messing anything up tonight.
Henry was doing much better than he thought he would. He took his cues from Chloe and followed her lead easily. He smiled at the right times, laughed when appropriate. There were a couple of times he let slip a thing or two without processing it through a million different mental filters first. Nothing too embarrassing, however. Henry was smart enough to leave anything about Orange County’s weirdness - especially when it directly concerned either himself or Chloe - out of the conversation.
One of Chloe’s co-workers did mention the Stormtrooper invasion that had happened back in May. She apparently didn’t believe the cover story about a stunt to drum up publicity for the upcoming movie. The next movie wasn’t due out for at least another year. It was unlikely they would be attempting to drum up attention so early. For his part, Henry only smirked and exchanged a knowing look with Chloe.
Once they had schmoozed a bit with Chloe’s co-workers and Henry had names to go along with faces now, he joined her with controlling the traffic headed into the theater.
There was a happy bubble forming inside of Chloe at how well Henry was doing. If she hadn’t loved him already this evening would have sealed it for her. He was beautiful to watch and he was just so sweet. Everyone seemed quite taken with him and she was incredibly proud to be his girlfriend and she really hoped that he was enjoying himself. It was also really nice to just be able to stand close to him, arms brushing and hands touching, and beam her love for him with other people watching.
The Stormtrooper invasion being mentioned had been a little odd and Chloe’s eyebrows had raised briefly during it, but when Henry only smirked she knew that it was better to play it cool. She was still learning how to handle the mentions of the network things with people who were just normal. Thankfully that subject was just brushed over as they were told things were finally starting and it was time to get to work.
It was sweet that he was helping her out and she felt a little bad that he wasn’t getting paid for his hard work. She had introduced him to a couple of people that she hoped would be able to give him some work that involved photography and she knew they would be impressed with him once they saw his work. Her mind slipped back to her task and soon enough the red carpet was complete. Feet lead her back to Henry, slipping her hand into his, and pulling him along into the theater. She had been here a few times and knew a couple good hiding spaces - they wouldn’t miss them for a bit.
A couple turns and they were in an empty back stairwell and she let go of his hand to wrap her arms around his neck and gave him a passionate kiss. Hard work deserved a reward.
Henry may not have been getting paid to help out, but he didn’t mind. It didn’t really feel like work. He had met a lot of people, made a few connections that looked as though they would lead to some pretty major jobs in the near future. He felt a little odd at first handing out his card at Chloe’s event, but quickly realized that was all part of it. A lot of other people were networking and making connections, passing out cards and attempting to make last minute deals all over the glitz and glamour of a Red Carpet Event.
The biggest bonus of the evening was getting to spend time with Chloe. Yes, she was working and yes, he was helping her, but it was a great look into her professional life. A look Henry knew not a lot of people got the chance to see. He enjoyed watching her, clipboard in hand, confidently instructing people where to go, where to stand, ushering them through the entrance. Seeing Chloe in her element was incredibly attractive and Henry loved every minute that he got to spend with her there. So much so that he did not protest in the slightest when she guided him to a secluded area to steal a deep kiss from him. Just the opposite, in fact. He welcomed her kiss and returned it just as passionately, appropriateness be dammed.
Watching Henry light up when it came to speaking about his photography and possibly taking one step closer to to reaching his true dreams made her excited and she adored how great he was. She was truly blessed to have found someone like Henry and every day with him was a little adventure and she couldn’t have found a better partner. And sometimes she couldn’t keep that excitement to herself as she tucked herself and him into a dark corner and professed her feelings for him with her lips. The kiss deepened and she let out a light moan as she pressed her body against his before pulling away from him. Soft pants as she rested her forehead against his, “I love you.”
Henry was nothing but smiles. He couldn’t help it. Whenever he was around Chloe, especially like this, he just had to smile. She really brought out the best in him. He put his arms around her waist and held her close to him. He smiled at her and stole another quick little kiss from her. “I love you too,” he told her. “You really are the most amazing person I’ve ever met.”
He wanted to stay like this the rest of the evening, holding each other and being close. He laughed softly. “Do you think anyone will miss us if we just stay here like this?”
His smile was one of her favorite things and when he complimented her she couldn’t help but bush. He was seriously the greatest boyfriend she had ever had and she wasn’t going to give him up without a fight. “You’re so sweet to me. I’m a very lucky girl. I don’t think anyone will miss us if we stay like this for a while, but I would much rather go home with you,” a hand reached up to gently stroke his cheek with a grin, “So, let’s get out of here. I’ll check in to make sure I’m good to go and we’ll get the hell out of dodge.”
Henry leaned into her touch just slightly and his smile grew. That sounded like the perfect end to an amazing evening - and as beautiful as she was, he couldn’t wait to get her out of that dress. He kissed her again. “I’m all for that,” he told her eagerly.
