Sharon headed to the park, running just a couple of minutes late. She had a big diaper bag today, but had foregone the stroller. Viv was toddling right along beside her as the pair made their way into the park. Viv was wearing a swim diaper under her bathing suit, with a wide-brimmed hat and white smears of sunblock all over her little body. Sharon was in summery wardrobe, and settled on a bench near the water stuff to wait for Splendid to arrive.
House hunting was hard, although she believed that they had finally found the perfect fit for them. Splendid was trying not to think too much about all the packing she was going to have to do now, and instead focused on doing something fun with Valerian. He had on his own little swim trunks, some boat shoes - although she was sure he'd get rid of those as soon as he could - and he too had streaks of white on his skin from the sunblock she'd applied. She knew that she'd have to do it again in about thirty minutes, but it was worth it in her opinion. He was actually on her hip as she walked up to the bench where Sharon was sitting. She was dressed in a pair of shorts, and tank, her hair pulled up into a ponytail and it did reveal the brand that Joe had put into her skin.
The scars on her face, however, were something she'd grown used to at this point. Splendid didn't try to conceal them any longer, instead she wore them with pride at the fact she'd made it out alive. "You must be Sharon." She greeted the blonde with a bright smile, "I'm Splendid and this is Valerian." The little boy on her hip started wiggling, so she let him down although he kept a tight grip onto his mother's hands as she helped him stand.
Sharon turned her attention up to the other woman, and broke into a smile. “Splendid?” She asked, then climbed up to her feet. Viv was toddling around now, wearing her water shoes and playing with a beach ball. “Yes, I’m Sharon, and that’s Viv. She’s just… having too much fun.” It was nice to meet another Valarnet mom. Sharon motioned to sit down on the bench.
"That's me." She gave the other woman a bright smile, and then glanced over at the little girl. She was precious as she was toddling around, and Splendid was glad that they had a chance to get together. "It looks like she is." Splendid kept holding onto Valerian's hands until she reached the bench, and she moved him so he could hold on to the edge. "He's still getting the hang of walking. I'm sure he'll be running around in no time." Splendid hadn't been concerned that he hadn't started walking yet, and she knew that eventually he would get the hang of it. She sat down the diaper bag, and before she even had a chance to sit down herself he was already off crawling away toward Viv. "Well, looks like someone has taken a shine to your little lady." She glanced over at Sharon, chuckling softly.
“I was shocked at how fast she started walking. It was like, those first couple of steps happened, and then zoom.” Sharon looked over at the kids together, smiling warmly. “I’m sure he’ll get there. I wanted her to walk so bad, and then once she started? Now I wish she’d just sit still!” She laughed a little, then grinned at her new friend. “I’m so glad they’re getting along. Look how cute they are!” Funny how having kids around the same age made moms instant friends.
Turning slightly, Splendid listened to Sharon as she talked about Viv and how she'd started walking. "Oh, I have no doubts that he will." She turned back, watching the two of the babies as they babbled at each other, and she couldn't help but smile. "They are quite adorable." She reached into the diaper bag and pulled out her cell phone to snap a few pictures, "I have a feeling that I'm going to feel the same way once he gets the hang of it. He's nearly there, really, and I have this feeling it's only going to be a matter of time." She put her cell phone back into the bag, she'd send the girls and Max photos later. "I'm still having a hard time believing that my little man is a year old. It feels like only yesterday he was a tiny thing in my arms"
“It all happens so fast, doesn’t it?” Sharon agreed with a smile. She watched the babies play for a moment, then pulled out her phone, too. How could she not? Taking pictures of the kids was becoming an addiction. Sharon probably had thousands of pictures of Viv on her phone. Or, in the cloud. “It gets so much crazier once they’re so much more mobile.” She leaned back on the bench and pocketed her phone again. “I’m running around like mad. I had to do a whole lot more baby-proofing on my place, too.”
With a nod, Splendid let out a sigh. "It does." She was still uncertain how the time had gone by so fast, but it was what it was and there was little that she could do about it. Splendid was much the same way with Valerian, she was always snapping pictures of her son to send to her family. "Ugh, baby proofing." Splendid shook her head as she watched Valerian squeal as a shot of water from the fountain came up and splashed him on the chest. "My family, well I consider them my family, and I are looking for a house right now. It's been a process, that's for sure, but yeah, baby-proofing is a thing that's going to happen for us too." She was sure that the other girls would be more adamant about it than she was at that current moment.
Viv let out a peal of laughter when the water spurted up at her, too. Right in the diaper. She stomped her little, water shoe-clad feet, and waved her hands in the direction of the fountain. Sharon chuckled, watching the kids together by the sprinkling water. “Oh, man. I can’t imagine buying a new house in the beginning of the toddler years.” Sharon leaned back a little on the bench, watching Viv and Valerian play. She smiled warmly. “But putting in outlet covers and drawer locks on a clean place would be easier than trying to dig out the floor in my own.”
"It's been a process." Splendid replied with a light laugh, her eyes still on the children as they played in the water. At her apartment she hadn't had to worry about clutter all that much. It was pretty bare still even though she'd lived there for awhile, and Splendid put that off on being too busy to buy too much. The reality was that somewhere in the back of her mind she didn't want to collect a lot of things just in the event that she had to leave quickly. Valerian's father was still out there, somewhere, and she didn't want to risk losing her son now. Turning to look over at Sharon, she nodded. "Well, that's true enough. It won't take long for us to do that when the time comes. I'm sure that my friends have already thought about it." Knowing Capable and Furiosa they most likely had. "Still, I don't have a lot in my apartment, so it's not going to be that big of a deal really. It'll just be nice to find a place and settle in."
Viv fell down on her hands and knees and looked for a moment like she might start screaming. But Sharon turned her eyes away at the right moment, and Viv climbed back up to her feet to continue toddling around. Sharon turned back and broke into a smirk. So long as she didn’t freak out about little tumbles, the little one didn’t, either. “Are you new to the area?” Sharon asked. She hadn’t asked that before, had she? She was a little distracted watching Viv and Valerian in the water.
"I've been here nearly two years now" Splendid replied with a small nod of her head, watching the little ones carefully. Valerian was much the same way, if she didn't react to his falls he didn't either, and so she tended to ignore most of them. "I moved from New York out here." She wouldn't go into details as to the why but just that she had moved there. She didn't want to dwell on the negative, or have people look at her like she was strange for keeping her son. She didn't need to explain herself to anyone. "What about yourself?"
“That’s funny, so did I.” Sharon said, giving the other woman a smile. “It’s quite the change, isn’t it? I’ve been here since April, two thousand fourteen.” She leaned back against the bench, thinking about what a shock it was to come here. She’d been working undercover before, and then had to take several weeks to get back into the swing of things before she could start working as a homicide detective or Orange County. She’d met Leon, and Aramis, and Veronica had come to stay… It’d been a really good couple of years for Sharon.
"Oh? Where were you at in New York?" Splendid asked with a raised brow. It wasn't as if she hadn't met others from New York before, but it was nice still to share stories about the place. Not all of Splendid's memories from the city were bad. "It is definitely a change. I was sorta thankful for the snow this past December. That made it feel a little more like home." She offered the other woman a smile and then gave a nod. "Very nice." She replied, glancing back over at the children to watch them in silence for a few moments. "I'm glad I made the move though. I met people from my dreams here, and we're, well we're a tiny little family now. It's been a blessing."
“New York City,” Sharon said with a smile. “Though, I was just there for work, so I didn’t really get a feel for the place. I’m originally from Virginia.” It kinda felt like she was telling this other woman her whole life story, so she decided to stop.
A light smile tugged up the corners of Splendid's lips, "We lived in New York. We moved there when I was young from Australia." It was hard to tell that Splendid was from any place other than the US. There was only a hint of an accent when she spoke and that was only on certain words as it was. "It's a lovely place. New York that is. Especially when you have a chance to actually experience it."
“Oh, wow, Australia.” Sharon smiled warmly. “That must have been a big change.” She was about to say something else when Viv started to cry. It was probably time to get the baby changed, fed, and home for a nap. They’d been at the park for a long time, anyway. “It’s probably just about time to head home.”
"It was a bit of a change." She offered with a smile, and nod as Valerian looked on worriedly at Viv right before he started to cry too. "Yes, I think you're right." Splendid pushed herself up, picking up the diaper bag and slung it over her shoulder. "There, there." She reached down, picking up Valerian after she made her way over to him. "We'll get you changed in the car, yeah?" She turned to look over at Sharon, "We'll definitely have to do this again. Just hit me up on the network anytime you'd like to hang out." She smiled softly over at her, and then with a wave headed back to her car. It was nice to have another mom friend, someone that would understand and she thought Valerian had made a friend himself and that? That was extremely important to her.
“I’ll definitely do that.” Sharon said, giving the other a smile. “Sounds good! I’ll see you soon.” And she collected up Viv to head home for some food and a nap.
