There was no way this wasn’t going to be awkward, and Tyler knew it. But really, he had no idea what else to do with the charm bracelet that had come through his dreams. He had no interest in keeping the jewelry, and while he could be kind of dense sometimes, he knew that giving Blossom a bracelet that was meant for his dream girlfriend, the girl he’d slept with a few times in high school, the girl he had feelings for, even if he was sure that most of them belonged the other Tyler’s, was a serious fopaux. Besides, the charms on said bracelet were once that he’d picked out specifically for Caroline. Shifting his weight from one leg to the other, he knocked on her apartment door.
Peeta was out for a bit. Which was why she figured now would be a good time to have Tyler over. She doubted he wanted to give her something from the dreams with her boyfriend there. Well at least she assumed it was from the dreams given Tyler was texting her about dreams when he realized he had something for her. Anyway she heard the knock at the door and hurried to answer it. Even if he had insinuated it was awkward it was still a present. Who wouldn’t want a present? Caroline had a pretty good idea what it was too. “Hey,” she said opening the door and giving Tyler a hug. “Come on in,” she added as she pulled away stepping back to let him inside.
Tyler hugged Caroline back before stepping into the apartment. “Is Peeta around?” he asked. The bracelet didn’t mean anything in the real world, but the idea of Peeta being around when he gave it to her still made him uncomfortable.
“Nope. He’s at the bakery.” As in his bakery. Not Baxter’s. So many bakeries in her life. “Why? Do you have a present for him too?” she couldn’t help but tease. She knew perfectly well that it would be a bit awkward if her boyfriend was around when Tyler gave her a present from the dreams but she was trying to ease some of the tension with jokes.
“Oh yeah,” Tyler said. “I love getting presents for my friend’s boyfriends,” Tyler said. He had actually grown to like Peeta over the last little while, but there weren’t a lot of friends Tyler would randomly buy presents for. Even Caroline’s gift had come to him randomly in his dreams. Speaking of which… he pulled the bag out of his pocket and handed it to her unceremoniously.
Caroline was about to protest that, pointing out that Peeta could be his friend too. Hell her boyfriend had even ‘helped’ Caroline bake a cake. But when Tyler pulled out the bag Caroline’s suspicions were immediately confirmed and now was not the time to talk about Peeta. “Looks familiar,” Caroline said accepting the bag slowly pulling out the bracelet. “It’s prettier than I remember,” she offered with a smile because really what else was she supposed to say? “I’ll put it with my other one.”
“Looks the same to me,” Tyler said, though he had just dreamed about it a few nights before. “What other one?” Had he given her another bracelet later in the dreams?
“Oh, uh the one from Klaus,” Caroline said forgetting that Tyler never actually saw that bracelet in the dreams. She was already heading back to her bedroom to put it away. Wearing it would be a little weird. But Tyler was more than welcome to follow.
Tyler was surprised enough to hear that that he almost recoiled, his eyebrows jumping toward his hairline. “From Klaus? Why the hell was the guy who told me to bite you giving you bracelets?” He asked, following Caroline toward her bedroom.
“Because it was my birthday,” Caroline said as if it was obvious. She opened up her jewelry box placing the bracelet from Tyler next to Klaus’. Now she had two dream bracelets that she would probably never wear considering they were from dream boyfriends and not her actual boyfriend.
Tyler’s frown deepened when he saw the bracelet that Caroline placed his next to. With them side by side, it was clear that Klaus’s bracelet was far nicer. Then again, even if they weren’t laid side by side, it would be fairly obvious which one had been more expensive. “What the hell, Caroline? Why the hell is dream you complaining about how much time I spend with Klaus when you’re accepting expensive bracelets from him?”
“She gave it back to him,” Caroline replied turning to face Tyler. To be fair she had worn it to his ball first but that wasn’t the point. “But uh it actually came from his dreams… not mine.” Now that Tyler was dreaming about Klaus it was probably time to tell him who her ex boyfriend was.
“His dreams?” Tyler asked, frowning. “You mean Klaus’s dreams? He’s here?” The last person that Tyler wanted to see was Klaus. He was sure he didn’t have a sire bond here - he wasn’t even a vampire yet, much to his chagrin - but that wasn’t something he really wanted to risk. While he hadn’t minded Klaus so much before, his whole making Tyler nearly kill Caroline had soured him to the original hybrid somewhat.
“He was, yeah,” Caroline said with a small nod of her head. “He left a while ago. Went to New Orleans.” She had no idea if he was still there or not or what happened to him once he left. It was for the best considering she had moved on and was happy now.
“That’s a relief,” Tyler sighed. He hadn’t seen Klaus yet, and he had zero intention of doing so anytime soon. Hopefully Klaus would stay in New Orleans, because Tyler had no plans on visiting there in the foreseeable future. “He really doesn’t seem the type to give you a bracelet that you already gave back to him though.”
“I’m not sure what else he was supposed to do with it.” Tyler could probably understand that. After all he was in the same situation. “But now that you’re dreaming about him there is something I guess I should tell you, about Klaus.”
Tyler himself hadn’t known what to do with it other than giving it to Caroline, so he supposed when she put it like that he could understand where he’d been coming from. Not that he particularly wanted to; the very idea of Klaus put a bad taste in his mouth. “Oh yeah? What’s that?” he asked.
“My boyfriend before Peeta, it was actually Klaus.” It wasn’t something she talked about much, or at all. But it wasn’t something she wanted to keep from Tyler either, especially with what he was dreaming now.
Tyler had to have misheard Caroline, because it sounded suspiciously like she said that she had dated Klaus. The same Klaus she fought with him about almost constantly since he’d become a hybrid in the dreams. He had to remind himself that Klaus in the dreams may not have been the same one in real life. “I really hope he’s less murdery here than he was in the dreams,” he said once the silence stretched awkwardly long.
“You could say that.” She wasn’t sure how much detail she needed to go into. But it was true Klaus hadn’t been around to be as murdery as he was in the dreams.
“That’s something at least,” Tyler said darkly. “I really can’t see that man in any kind of relationship. Didn’t he temporarily kill his entire family?” Tyler really hadn’t dealt too much with Klaus and his fucked up family dynamics, certainly not as much as Elena and the others, but he’d hear some of it.
“Daggered them, yeah.” That was a dream only thing though. “But anyway that’s enough about my exes.” As much as she felt like Tyler had a right to know it was a bit odd for her to stand around talking about her ex boyfriend. Especially now that she was in such a good place with Peeta.
Tyler nodded. “Yeah, I’d really rather not talk more about Klaus.” He hadn’t thought Klaus was so bad after he had been turned into a hybrid, but the longer the dreams went on the more he realized that he really didn’t care much for the man. It didn’t help that he still hadn’t turned. What the hell did it take for a guy to become a vampire around here? “But that’s about all I came here for.”
Caroline didn’t particularly want to talk more about Klaus either. Now the air was clear and everything was fine. “You can stay,” Caroline offered. “There’s beer in the fridge.” She wasn’t going to just a present as awkward as the gif was and then kick Tyler out. “I’ll put on Netflix,” she added brightly. “But this is so not a Netflix and Chill type situation,” she teased. “I don’t think Peeta or Blossom would appreciate that.”
“What kind of guy do you take me for?” Tyler asked, faking offence. Bleedover dream feelings or not, he would never consider betraying Blossom’s trust like that. Or Peeta’s, for that matter. Maybe they weren’t bros, but he had grown to think of Peeta as something of a friend. “But hey, I’m not going to say no to beer. Bring on the Netflix.”
