Katou still could barely get over the fact that he had a sweet new car. He was taking his driver’s exam in the next few months, and he wanted to get in as much practice as possible. Kanan had been teaching him to drive which was nice, and Katou was starting to feel pretty confident behind the wheel. But having his own car meant that he could visit Caleb whenever the hell he wanted. After picking up a case of beer, he made his way to Caleb’s apartment, and rang the bell.
With school starting so late this year (or maybe always, the quarter system would never make sense to her), Hanna was trying to make sure to divide up her time between Caleb and Emily and her other friends, on top of her internship while she could. And planning a trip to New York with Emily because the poor girl needed a break. And Hanna just didn’t want to think about the dreams, which could be rather hard sometimes. Or all the time. But they were annoying and confusing and she was so done with them.
Currently she was on the couch at Caleb’s, working on some design sketches while her boyfriend took Techno out for a walk as the dog had been whining excessively when she had gotten there. Hearing the knock, the blonde jumped as she had been startled before shaking her head and getting up to answer the door, figuring Caleb had just forgotten his keys.
“Did you forget your-- Oh. Hi?” Definitely not Caleb. Well… that was a bit awkward.
Katou frowned when the blonde chick opened the door. It took him a moment, but then he realized that he must be looking at the Hanna chick that Caleb was so hung up on. His smile faded to a frown. “You must be Hanna,” he said, moving to push his way past her into the apartment. “Caleb home?”
Well that was always a great feeling when someone frowned upon seeing you. Not. Brows knit together in confusion, she just nodded some, “Yeah--um, excuse you?” Because not only did he seem to frown at her (who was he again?), but now he was trying to push his way past her as if he had that right? Hell no. “No. He’s out walking Techno. Who are you?”
Katou sighed. “I’m Katou. Pals with Caleb. May I come in?” he asked, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “I brought beer. That good enough for a gate fee?” He could at least wait around for Caleb for a bit, even if the idea of hanging around the apartment minus both Caleb and Techno didn’t sound terribly appealing.
Wow, because how dare she not just let some person walk into her boyfriend’s apartment when she didn’t know them and they had just tried to railroad on over her. She knew that there was apparently no threat left in regards to Caleb’s past so she wouldn’t potentially be letting some jerk in who meant to cause Caleb harm.
“Yeah. Fine.” Stepping aside, she waited until Katou entered before closing the door and going back to the couch where she’d been working on sketching designs. It wasn’t like there was much else to do. Sure, she could always talk with Katou, but after that whole introduction and annoyance? She really didn’t feel like it right now.
Honestly, Katou really had no intention of hanging around with Hanna either. He’d never met the girl, but he already knew he didn’t like her much. Granted, he’d decided that ages ago, long before he’d ever met her, but so far she seemed rude and so he had no intention of revising his opinion of her. He pulled a beer out of the box before he put the rest in the fridge and popped the top, and took a sip. With any luck, Caleb would be home soon.
Which meant he could probably take this opportunity to get to find out if Hanna was even good enough for Caleb in the first place. He’d had plenty of friends with plenty of girlfriends, and he’d even had a few himself before he finally admitted to himself that girls just didn’t do it for him. And he’d been able to get nearly all his friend’s girlfriends to sleep with him in under half an hour. And why should Caleb waste his time with some girl who’d probably just jump on the first dick she saw when Caleb wasn’t around?
He grabbed another beer from the fridge, then headed back to the couch. “You like beer?” he asked, offering the bottle out to her.
Katou wasn’t the only one hoping that Caleb got back soon. Hanna was more than capable of being nice to people but given Katou was nothing but rude when she had answered the door and dared not to be Caleb? Well, she had enough stress to deal with that she wasn’t going to entertain someone who clearly wanted nothing to do with her.
So what if it was a bit tense thanks to the less than stellar first meeting that had just taken place. Not everyone would get along with others and she wasn’t so desperate for that approval anymore that she would bend over backwards to make sure everyone liked her.
Or...Katou could decide to offer her a beer. It wasn’t like she disliked them, she just didn’t drink them nearly as much as Caleb seemed to. Blinking some as she looked up from her sketching.
“Um. Yeah….” It clearly hadn’t been opened so he couldn’t have messed with it. Well… some people had abilities but she might as well try to give him the benefit of the doubt, so she took it. “Thanks.”
Once Hanna took the beer, Katou flopped down on the couch next to her and took a sip of his beer. He slung an arm over the back of the couch, and leaned in to glance at her sketchpad. “That’s not so bad. What’re you working on? Anything important?” he asked, pretending to be more interested than he really was.
Okay. Maybe the initial meeting was just confusion on both their parts. Hanna wasn’t quite sure what to make of Katou’s shift from full on rude to now offering her a beer and trying to make conversation about the sketching. She ignored the way he slung his arm over the back of the couch and instead just shrugged.
“Thanks. Just some designs for outfits I’d want to make. Nothing super important.” If she ended up re-applying to the Fashion Institute of Technology, who knew. But it never hurt to build on her portfolio for that or other schools or just internships as well.
“Oh yeah? You make clothes?” he asked. “That’s cool.” And he almost meant it. Katou’d never made his own outfit, but he did know how to alter and repair his own clothing. It’s what happened when you were homeless and couldn’t really afford a new outfit every time your old ones fell apart. He pressed his leg up against Hanna’s.
“I’m in school for fashion design, so I hope so. This helps me build up a portfolio.” And then he was pressing his leg against hers? Okay maybe it was just because he was oddly close to her now, so Hanna just crossed the one leg over her other. If he kept at it, she would know it wasn’t an accident but she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
Katou stopped pushing for now, though he didn’t back off. Coming across as too forceful wasn’t going to win him any points, though he was on kind of a tight schedule if he wanted Caleb to catch her doing something compromising. “Oh yeah? Glad you found fashion. I think it’s great you managed to get in. Not everyone can be a doctor, after all.”
“Well, everyone has their own passions and what they’re good at. Even if people think only certain jobs are the good ones.” Just look at her father. Even though she knew that she would never live up to his expectations, would never be that perfect daughter, she did still want to get some sort of validation from him. And her interest in fashion? Just seen as silly and wouldn’t do her any good.
Katou’s lips tugged up into a bit of a smirk. He saw his opportunity, and he was prepared to take it. He leaned close to her ear, lowering his voice into something almost like a purr. “I have passions of my own, you know. I could show you if you’d like.”
Okay. There was giving the benefit of the doubt and then there was…. Tensing, Hanna pulled away and her eyes narrowed as she looked at Katou upon standing up.
“What the actual hell?!”
Yeah, Hanna was not okay with this. At. All. She had her insecurities. And there was everything that had happened both with her father’s intern and Zack and boundaries. Now Caleb’s friend?! If this was going to be a thing then… no. She wasn’t going down that path.
“I don’t know what you’re thinking or seem to think I am but no. I can’t believe you would call Caleb your friend and then make a move on me!”
Well. That went badly. Most of the other chick’s Katou’s friends had dated had been more than willing to fall into bed with any guy who gave her any kind of attention. But that had been nearly a lifetime ago he realized. Different people, different crowds, a lot more illicit substances. And it occurred to him that if this got back to Caleb, Caleb would probably be a little upset.
He grinned, holding up his hands in an ‘I surrender’ motion. “Relax,” he said, and took a pull from his beer bottle. “I was kidding.”
And again. What. The. Hell? Honestly, this entire situation was insulting and made her more than slightly uncomfortable. And wasn’t that just so typical. Guys getting called on being creeps and laughing it off as a joke. It was insulting and so even if he wanted her ‘relax’ and that it was all a joke? So not funny.
“Screw you.”
Knowing that there was no way she was going to be able to just sit there and act like nothing had happened, especially once Caleb got back? Hanna made the decision to just leave. So what if she appeared ‘prudish’ or ‘unable to take a joke’ and ‘uptight’. She had too much respect for herself to sit around and deal with this nonsense.
Grabbing her things, Hanna went to the door.
“Have fun or whatever.” Shaking her head, the blonde left and headed down the hall. Just in time to see Caleb with Techno.
“Your friend is a creep.”
And with that as she really didn’t have the energy to deal with it anymore, Hanna left the apartment building.
