Aside from the Rifts, the summer had been a rather nice one as far as Mary Margaret was concerned. Now that she had an exceptional assistant, she had been able to split her time between the shelter, spending time with Emma, Neal, Henry and Niko and spending time at the range to practice her archery. Of course being around the new baby only reminded Mary Margaret of her own baby in the dreams and that only reminded her of David. She didn’t want to pine over someone who was only in her dreams, but she didn’t think that there was anything she could do to stop it despite Regina telling her that she should move on. When you were Snow White and Prince Charming, it simply wasn’t that easy to just move on.
Today she’d been at the shelter, going through a few donation boxes when she decided to slip out for a coffee at a cafe down the street. After placing her order and paying, she moved aside to wait for her name to be called.
Lily was getting close to finishing up her animagus spell, but she was definitely doing her best to enjoy her usual things even if she had to keep this stupid mandrake leaf in her mouth. She had gotten quite used to drinking things without getting rid of the leaf. So, it meant that she could continue to go to her usual coffee shops and enjoy her liquid life force. She stepped inside and took a moment to contemplate the menu board before deciding what she wanted.
Once her order was placed she moved to wait for her order. However, after she placed her order there was another jerk in line who ended up jostling her when he came over to wait for his order. She let out a yelp as she bumped into Mary Margaret and shot him a rude look before turning to the woman, “Sorry about that!”
Mary Margaret had been checking an email on her phone when she was bumped into by the red headed girl, but managed to keep a hold of her phone, “It’s okay. Are you alright?” She glanced at the guy who had knocked the other woman into her and wasn’t the least bit surprised that he didn’t appear to even care what he’d done.
“Ugh, yeah I’m fine. Some people are just rude,” Lily raised her voice slightly on the last word and sent a glare in the direction of the man who had bumped into her. She didn’t understand why people had to act like that. Hopefully the baristas saw what happened and would take extra long on making his order complete, “And are you alright? I really didn’t mean to bump into you.”
“I would hope that his parents didn’t raise him to act like that.” Mary Margaret frowned in the man’s direction, but he still didn’t even acknowledge them. Honestly, some men were just awful, “Yeah, I’m alright. I’m sure karma will get him later on.”
“Who knows. I think sometimes it’s either them learning it or being taught it,” Lily commented, “I would never let my kid be that rude if I had one. And yeah, karma will totally get him eventually.” That was the only saving grace to the situation. If only she could witness it, but she will just imagine all sorts of scenarios.
“Me neither. I’d be horrified if my child ever treated someone else like that,” Of course Mary Margaret didn’t actually have any children, regardless of the fact that she had maternal feelings towards Emma. It had been strange at first, but knowing that Emma had the same feelings towards her as in the dreams, it wasn’t the least bit strange anymore.
“Totally agree with you on that one,” Lily turned slightly to shoot another look at the man who was still waiting. She was thankful for that because at least it meant the baristas knew he was being rude. When the barista called out Mary Margaret’s name Lily paused for a moment, “Oh, I think I know you. Are you on Valar?” She knew that name sounded familiar and that had to be why.
Hearing her name, Mary Margaret had been about to turn to pick up her drink when the red headed woman asked her about Valar. Her name combination wasn’t exactly a common one, so it wasn’t a surprise when someone wound up asking her about Valar, “I am.” Thinking back to the people she’d spoken to recently, she thought she knew who she was talking to now, “Lily?”
“Yes! That’s me. I thought I recognized your name, lovely to meet you in person,” Lily commented with a smile, “Grab your drink.” She wanted to make sure that Mary Margaret at least got her drink before they started to talk since they had been waiting for so long. And it didn’t hurt that as soon as she said that she heard her name called by the barista and move to grab her drink as well.
Mary Margaret retrieved her drink then came back to Lily just as her name was called as well, “And there’s yours.” She pointed out, smirking. “So how have you been?” She asked after Lily picked up her own drink. She recalled the dreams Lily had been talking about when they had first spoken on Valarnet and Mary Margaret hoped that those dreams hadn’t brought her down too much.
“I’ve been pretty well. Just working on dream stuff and helping my boyfriend out with his own,” her story had finished pretty dramatically, but Sirius’ seems to be just ramping up. There was a bit of grieving there because he didn’t deserve to live that kind of life when he hadn’t done anything, but she wasn’t able to declare his innocence in the dreams, “What about you?”
“I know what you mean about the dream stuff.” Mary Margaret hadn’t had any more dreams since Emma had become the Dark One, but she knew that things didn’t get any easier, “I’ve also been spending time with my friend, who is actually my dream daughter, and her family. She had a baby in July, so of course I have to see the baby as often as possible.” When she wasn’t spending time at the Swan/Cassidy household, she was at the shelter or the range.
“Well, that’s an interesting scenario. At least you all get along here. I’m not sure what I would do if my dream son showed up. My boyfriend’s best friend is my dream husband, so that’s always a little odd. I feel like I’m stuck in an odd situation when it comes to that, but we all get along,” it felt a little like cheating sometimes, but she still wanted to make the best of their odd situation, “But having a baby around to visit sounds lovely. I don’t want my own child right now, but I could totally do with just cuddling one for a couple hours.”
“That does complicate things, huh?” It reminded Mary Margaret about how Emma was with a different guy in the waking world than in the dream world and how Regina instead was dating Killian. “Is your dream husband here too?” That would make things even more awkward. “I’ve always loved babies so having Niko around now is wonderful.”
“It truly does. He is around, but I think we’ve come to an understanding,” she wasn’t even sure if James was dreaming anymore, but they had come to terms with what was going on. The two worlds were separate and it had taken them time to get there, “And I’m glad you have him around to spend time with. Oh goodness, I should get going.”
She had glanced up and noticed the clock behind the baristas and winced. It was later than she thought and she had to get some things going for the spell, “But it was so lovely to meet you in person, Mary Margaret. Don’t be a stranger on the network.”
“I’m glad things aren’t too awkward for you guys.” Considering they were all friends, dating someone different than in the dreams could make things extremely awkward if they let it. When Lily realized the time, Mary Margaret figured it was probably a good idea to head back to the shelter as well, “Of course. I wouldn’t want to keep you, but it was nice meeting you too. I’m sure we’ll talk again soon.” They made their way outside then the two women went their separate ways for now.
