Katou was relieved that his cooking lesson with Anna this time was taking place at his place. He was comfortable with his kitchen, knew where things were. Anna’s place was fancier than Katou’s too, and he just more comfortable in his own abode. This time he’d actually had to look up a recipe for how to make pizza crust, but he’d done that before Anna had come over with his payment of beer and Zima. “Alright,” Katou said, from where he was sitting backwards on one of his kitchen chairs. “Now you gotta knead the dough.”
“That I can do!” Anna was absolutely thrilled that she was going to be cooking pizza with Katou! Pizza of all things! Because pizza was delicious, and Katou was… well, he was growing on her. Anna had washed hands, and was wearing a white apron tied around her waist. Leaving nothing to chance! She moved over to the dough and started to push down on it with her fingers.
Unfortunately Caleb couldn’t shape shift but he was still determined to get Katou back. In a joking way obviously. Which was why he was standing outside Katou’s house throwing rocks at the window. “My love,” he called out laughter filling his voice.
Katou leapt from his seat when he heard a rock knock against the glass, his claws coming out automatically as he spun toward it. He’d replaced the usual glass windows with bulletproof glass in order to stave off needing to replace it again, but that didn’t make him less wary. Though, once he heard Caleb’s voice outside, he immediately relaxed, retracting his claws with a thought. He opened the door and leaned out of it, grinning widely. “Darling!” he exclaimed. “What brings you here?”
Anna jumped in surprise at the sudden sound and movement. All she heard was the clink of the rock against glass, and then Katou was jumping up and spreading his claws. It made Anna blanche a little… until Katou relaxed and his claws withdrew. …Darling? It wasn’t exactly what Anna was expecting. She turned from the dough and took a step over toward Katou to try and look over his shoulder. What the heck?
“Oh you know, just looking for my lost lo-” his jest was cut off when he saw Anna. Caleb’s brow knitted together. “What’s Hanna’s not innocent friend doing here?” Oh. Had he interrupted some not innocent fun? His bad.
Katou glanced behind him, as though he was confused about who exactly Caleb was talking about. Truth was, he kind of was, even if he knew that Anna was right there. Katou turned his body slightly, and then went to use her head as an armrest. “You mean this girlie here with the Bieber cut out in her closet? She’s totally innocent.”
Anna couldn’t see over Katou’s shoulder, even up on her tip toes. Even with a little jump. But he happened to shift, and Anna caught sight of Caleb and Caleb caught sight of Anna, and the redhead was probably the only one of the pair who was excited to see the other. She broke into a bright smile and lifted a hand to wave. Then Katou’s arm came up to rest on her head. She turned to glare at him and realized she was looking straight into his armpit. Gross!
“Buh!” Anna said, and lifted both hands to slap at his arm. “I am not!”
What was it with that Justin Bieber guy? Hanna had a thing for him in the dreams too. Caleb didn’t get it but whatever. Must be a girl thing. “I don’t think liking Bieber makes you innocent.” Caleb commented because Hanna definitely wasn’t especially in the dreams. “But uh sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt your…” he paused brows knitting together as he observed the scene. “Cooking date?”
Katou blinked, a little surprised at Caleb’s assumption. The idea that Katou’d have any kind of date with Anna was a little boggling, and not just because she didn’t have the right parts. But, well, going with it was far more amusing than denying, so with a creeping, mischievous smile, he dropped his arms from where he’d been attempting to rest them on her head to around her neck. “Oh, no worries man. We’re ain’t naked yet, so no harm no foul.”
At least if Anna hit him, it wasn’t likely to hurt much.
So, it was totally a cooking date. But it wasn’t a cooking date. When Caleb apologized for interrupting, Anna didn’t put together that he meant something romantic. She was about to protest that Caleb was interrupting anything when Katou’s arm wrapped around her shoulders. Then it all clicked into place. Anna’s eyes went wide and her jaw went slack.
“EEW.” She pushed Katou in the chest with one sharp, index finger. “GROSS.” As she pulled out from under his arm, Anna shook her head vehemently. Katou was becoming a friend, but Anna still thought he was a bit of an ass.
Well this just kept getting more awkward. First with his assumption that this was some type of date and then with Anna’s disgust at the idea. “Oookay then,” Caleb said stuffing his hands in his pockets. “Sorry for interrupting whatever this is.”
Katou snorted, then burst out cackling. “Fucking rude much?” Katou said to Anna, feigning offense though he was sure it wasn’t very convincing given that he was still holding his stomach with laughter. “C’mon in dude. Seriously, you ain’t interrupting anything important. Anna’s just making me pizza. The fuck you doing here?”
Anna rolled her eyes and turned to head into the kitchen. Katou was crazy, that's all there was to it. She had kneading of pizza dough to do. Right? Wasn’t that her job? She moved back over to the board and started to fold and punch the dough.
Caleb followed Anna and Katou back inside. He still felt a bit like he was intruding but oh well. He had nothing else to do tonight. “I was trying to get back at you for the other week. Only I can’t shape shift,” he frowned at that. It’d be a much better ability than seeing ghosts. “So what’s up with you and Hanna’s friend?” he asked as if Anna wasn’t even there.
Hanna’s friend? Who the fuck didn’t know this Hanna chick? “Just teaching the girlie how to cook,” he said, and as if to prove his point he turned to Anna. “Alright, put the dough on the pizza tray. Like, spread out to the edges and shit.” Then he turned back to Caleb. “Chick could burn cereal if I weren’t here.”
Caleb didn’t know Anna that well, but he didn’t doubt that she couldn’t cook. “Burning cereal huh? That takes some skill,” he joked. “So how many lessons has it been so far?” he asked completely assuming this was a regular thing. Which it kind of seemed like with how Katou was talking to Anna anyway.
Anna rolled her eyes. She would have commented with I’m right here, you know, but was too busy beating up that pizza dough. Besides, Katou went on, and gave her instructions. Those were important to listen to. She spread the dough onto the tray, pushing it to the edges. It was lumpy and ridiculous.
“I think this is lesson number two.” Anna said, and glanced back at Caleb. “I’ve never actually burned cereal. Cut myself once when I was trying to get the box open, though.”
Caleb just shook his head laughing. Anna was too much. “Oh yeah, those cereal boxes are pretty dangerous,” he smirked looking over at Katou. “You sure she’s ready for pizza?”
If Katou had been amused before, the idea of Anna actually injuring herself making cereal was enough to send Katou over the top with giggles. “I think she’ll be alright so long as I’m here watching her. Though maybe I oughtta pull the pizza out of the oven when it’s done.”
Anna frowned a little, though she knew there was wisdom in that. The only other times she’d ever used the oven, she’d accidentally burned fingers or wrists or something on the edges. Even with gloves on. “I won’t say no to that.” She stepped back and motioned toward the pizza crust, thinking about pizza and not about how silly she probably sounded today, talking about cutting herself on cereal boxes. “I think we need sauce and cheese and toppings.”
“Yeah, don’t want her burning her hands.” Again Caleb was talking like Anna wasn’t even in the room. Probably not the most polite thing to do but he didn’t know the girl all that well. “Maybe you should help with the sauce too.” He wasn’t sure how she could injure herself with sauce but if she could with a cereal box he was sure it was possible. “You got any beer?”
“S’in the fridge, man,” Katou said, nodding toward the fridge. Caleb could really help himself to whatever Katou had around. God knows that Katou would do the same in Caleb’s house, and frequently did.
He made his way over to Anna, and did her the favour of opening the sauce jar for her, because Caleb was probably right and Anna would find a way to hurt herself. . “You need like a big spoonful of sauce. Spread it around in a circle going outwards with the curvy bit of the spoon,” he said, handing the jar to her.
Anna turned around and frowned, holding the jar. “Dude! I’m right here. No need for the pronouns.” She tugged on the jar’s lid, but of course, she couldn’t get it open. Then Katou did it for her. She glared as powerfully as she could at him, and took the jar back. “Thanks.”
But then she was grabbing a spoon and dumping a couple of spoonfuls of sauce onto the dough. She started to spread it around, too, though some places it was thicker than others.
Caleb grabbed three beers out of the fridge. One for the not-innocent Anna and one for Katou. He honestly had no idea if Anna was old enough to drink or even drank but it’d be rude not to offer her one. “Sorry,” Caleb apologized as he handed Anna the beer. The pronouns thing wasn’t one of his better moves.
“I’d help but I think Katou’s got it,” he added handing Katou his beer.
“Aw, did Caleb hurt ickle Anna’s feelings?” Katou asked, smirking. Hey, if she was going to glare at him for no reason at all, then he had no need to be nice to her. Not that he probably would have been much nicer even if she hadn’t glared.
“Thanks man,” Katou said, taking the beer and gulping some back. The sauce really could have used more work, but, well, Anna would probably figure that out once she took a bite of the damn thing and got a mouth full of sauce. “Now just toss whatever the fuck you want on evenly and toss on the cheese. And pizza. That’s all there is to it.” More or less. He turned his attention back to Caleb. “So, you just miss me so much you had to come visit?” he asked teasingly.
Anna ignored the comment about hurt feelings. She was here to learn how to make a pizza, that’s all. So she grabbed the cheese and put that on, and then dusted her hands off. “There. PIzza. Done. You can cook it.” She added, to Katou, and then started tossing all the dirty dishes and things into the sink. He could clean those up later. Anna wasn’t there to wash his dishes.
“Nah, I actually heard you were making pizza tonight. Couldn’t miss that.” Obviously a lie considering her had been surprised when he saw Anna at the door. He turned his attention to Anna and the pizza, okay more the pizza than Anna. Just cheese? “Toppings really make a pizza. You might want to add some,” he wasn’t saying it to be rude. He was actually trying to be helpful. “Where’s your toppings?” he asked Katou.
Katou frowned, looking at Anna as she started throwing things into the sink. “Uh, not picky man. Just use whatever you want from the fridge,” he said distractedly, waving a hand vaguely in the general direction of the fridge, before making his way over to Anna.
“Don’t be like that,” he said quietly once he got closer to Anna. “You know you gotta give it back as good as you get it.”
“It’s okay,” Anna said, holding the untouched beer back out to Katou. She didn’t really like beer, but was too polite to refuse the bottle that was passed over to her. “I don’t want to get in the way of your bromance. I’ll just make myself scarce. I think I’ve learned as much as I can about making pizza, anyway.”
Caleb frowned as he pulled things out of the fridge to put on top the pizza. He set them down on the counter turning his attention back to Katou and Anna. “I should go,” he said with an apologetic smile at Anna. “Sorry I didn’t mean to interrupt your lesson.” He looked back over at Katou. “We’ll hang soon. Whenever you aren’t busy teaching Hanna’s friends how to cook.”
Katou smiled slightly at Anna’s comment, though he hid it by brushing his nose with his hand. “Well, you cook them for like fifteen minutes, but that’s pretty much all there is too it,” he admitted to Anna. He guessed she did have a point about there not being much more to teach.
Though when Caleb said he was leaving too, Katou turned to him, practically glaring. “No, fuck you,” Katou said to Caleb. “I need someone to help me eat this pizza and if Anna’s going to bitch out on me, you can’t too.”
Anna frowned a little at the words bitch out. Seriously, Katou? Seriously? “I’m out. You guys enjoy the pizza. I’m sure Kat’s got plenty of toppings in the fridge.” Anna was tugging her shoes on by the door. Then she gave them another grin at the door before grabbing her purse and heading out.
Caleb felt a little bad that Anna was leaving. He hadn’t meant to kick her out of her own cooking lesson. But if she was going to leave then he might as well stay and enjoy the free mood. “Bye, Anna,” he said with a bit of a wave. “I’ll tell Hanna you said hi.” Even though she hadn’t it seemed the polite thing to do.
He turned his attention back to Katou. “Alright, let’s properly dress this pizza. Then I guess I can stay and help you eat it.”
