Alecto made a point to get plenty of wine and snacks (which were basically pizza bagels and some fruit) for girl’s night this week. Despite her desire to force Rebekah to watch Sharknado, she decided on something that wasn’t horror, too murdery, or a Sci-Fi original. She’d made a point to find a movie that didn’t really involve a romantic subplot that was more like the actual plot. In fact, she’d gone more child-type with the movie and chosen Coraline. It was an acceptable choice and just a touch of the creepy and strange. Just want she needed in a movie.
Just in case, she’d also gotten The Family (because why wouldn’t you want to watch Robert De Niro as an ex mobster fighting people and being awesome? Alecto truly didn’t know) and Twister (mostly because she thought it was funny when the cow came around twice). She set out the movies and checked to make sure that the girls weren’t lurking around somewhere instead of being asleep. When she was sure, she flopped down on the couch and waited for Rebekah to turn up.
Rebekah had been looking forward to the little girl's night she and Alecto had planned. The two women were completely different but somehow had become odd friends. Rebekah's best friend really. And the nanny definitely needed a night of just fun.
Once she had put Laurel and Madison to sleep, the blonde went into the living room where she knew her boss’ twin was waiting. Seeing the movies, Rebekah was glad to see it wasn't the gory murder movies Alecto tended to love. Sitting down next to her she gave the other girl a grin.
“Twister? I wouldn't have thought you'd like that one”
Alecto didn't have a lot of friends who weren't of the same general mind as she was. Especially not the girl sorts. It wasn't that she didn't like other girls, but she didn't always find everything everyone liked entertaining. She was against romcoms and she didn't really want to spend her time doing things that didn't interest her. Rebekah wasn't really the only girl that she spent time with that was practically the opposite of her, but she was the one that Alecto tolerated the most. Even if her taste in movies was questionable at best. Who didn't like Sharknado? Honestly.
"Uhhh...have you seen the part where the cow comes around and they're like cow...another cow...i think that's the same one?" She gave Rebekah a fairly pointed look. "That's the best part. I mean, also the parts where there's tornados and everyone's sort of crazy and runs toward them, but you know. The cow part is definitely the best part.
There was a slight shrug as she grabbed one of the pizza bagels off the plate. "I thought we could keep the mix interesting. One day you'll appreciate Sharknado enough to deserve it." Which was her way of saying she'd decided not to force it...out of the kindness of her heart. She really was too kind. People didn't appreciate that about her. Well, that and it was probably going to be really annoying to watch her watching it. She didn't want to ruin one of her favourites like that.
“I will never appreciate Sharknado.” The blonde declared, picking up the bottle of wine and pouring two glasses before handing one to Alecto. “I don't even know how sequels got made for that thing”
Picking up Twister, she got up and put it in the Blu-Ray player. She hadn't seen it in a while and it was one that she actually like back in the day. Sitting back down on the couch, she folded her legs under her. “How are you settling in?”
"That's because you are sad and misled." Alecto took the wine and shook her head. "Because it is beautiful and there are people out there that understand that." Really, she didn't understand how people didn't find it to be a beautiful cinematic creation. It was pretty obvious that it was terrible, but that was the whole point of it. It was supposed to be bad. It was so bad it was good.
Alecto was vaguely surprised that Rebekah had gone with Twister, but she didn't complain, just sat back and sipped at her wine. Unlike the other girl, her feet were on the coffee table and she'd sunk down a little to get to a position that was comfortable and particularly slouched. It was a sort of strange rebellion after years of being told to sit up straight and being corrected regarding her posture. "It's pretty okay. There's some interesting people at work and cases. It's not so bad. It's probably going to be a little warm for my tastes before too long, but the states tend to get that way. My first summer here was the worst."
“I felt the same way going to England in the summer” she said with a laugh. “I was so cold compared to how warm it can get here. But you do get used to it after a while. And there's always the beaches. You can cool down in the ocean!”
Opting for the fruit, Rebekah reached forward and picked up a strawberry. Taking a bite, she tilted her head slightly as she watched the scene where the dad was trying to hold down the door. “What exactly did he think he was going to do? It's fairly obvious that him holding it closed won't do anything.”
"It's a totally normal temperature. It is more than acceptable." She still preferred the temperature in England, but she'd gotten used to the concept of wearing less clothes. At times that involved really short shorts and tank tops. That and a lot of sunscreen. She'd learned the joy of sunscreen. It was completely necessary every day. Especially in the summer.
Alecto grabbed a couple more pizza bagels. "Well, how else is she supposed to get her tragic background? He's got to die. Otherwise her drive to fight tornados doesn't exist. So he's probably pretending that it's about keeping them safe, but really it's sacrificing himself for the sake of her getting a tragic backstory." Was that true? No. Did she really care? No.
“Oh of course silly me.” She said as if were the most acceptable answer in the world. “Chasing tornados is insane anyways. Why would you even want to drive around the most boring part of the country to be near something that can kill you?”
Rebekah was glad they didn't have to deal with tornados where they lived. Sure they had earthquakes, but those really weren't that bad. But then again it probably all depended on what you were used to.
Alecto nodded sagely. It was obvious that she knew what she was talking about and clearly Rebekah was entirely aware of that. If she wasn't, why would she agree so readily with her? "Probably because of the part where that something can kill you. Adrenaline junkies, Rebekah, do not know logic. Well, I mean, I might think about it just to say I'd done it once." There was probably some other reason for it, but she didn't care to analyse it that much.
There wasn't that much that she'd had to worry about when she was in England outside of a lot of rain...and maybe the fear of sheep if you were in Ireland...The US had crazy weather. "I wonder if there are hurricane chasers..."
Rebekah had actually never thought about that before. It seemed like something someone would do. But over here they were called typhoons and she didn’t think there were any Typhoon Chasers. At least, not to her knowledge.
“I’m going to say no” She said after a moment, sipping her wine. “Just because with hurricanes you know there’s one coming. With tornados it seems like it’s based on a lot of luck since there kind of unpredictable. But then again I’m not a meteorologist.”
Alecto shrugged slightly. She'd never really spent a lot of time looking into anything like that. She only cared if it was going to affect her. At home, it wasn't really an issue that she was aware of. Sometimes there was more rain and wind than usual, but what was more rain in England anyway? She watched the movie quietly for a moment before saying, "You'd think if people were crazy enough to go after tornados..." She shrugged again. "But I guess that'd be extra crazy. Like walking into a trap crazy...only you will probably be killed by debris instead of a gun or knife."
Tornado hunting was probably the same, but you probably had a better chance of not getting sucked into a tornado than a hurricane. She didn't really know what the difference was besides one was in water and one wasn't. But then there were waterspouts. What made those different. "Cary Elwes' character is really annoying in this movie," she commented, a complete shift in conversation. "He's not even interestingly annoying. Just annoying."
“I think I’d just stay in one of those storm shelters. But then again according to this movie a person can get sucked right out of those so I guess we’d be kind of screwed.” She shrugged, picking up another piece of fruit. This was nice, just sitting around and relaxing. It was strange to think that she considered this a good night off when before meeting the Carrow family, she would often go out at night to clubs and the like.
“I agree. Also, how hard could it possibly be to prove that that guy ripped off the other guy?” She questioned, motioning to the screen. “I mean if they were working on it as long as they said, there would have to be some blueprints or something. And if they both worked on it isn’t it as much Annoying Guy’s as it is Weather Guy’s?”
Alecto could probably go to a club if she really wanted to, but most of the time, she was lazy. That and Rebekah seemed perfectly okay with being lazy. "I mean...you're probably screwed either way. Unless you stay back far enough. Who knows?" She was glad she didn't have to worry about tornados here. Then again, if The Day After Tomorrow was real, she probably had to fear being frozen to death one day. She made a mental note not to walk away to try to get to warmer places. Just collect all the boring books, make a fire, and stay inside. She also made a note to get a fire pit or a portable heater.
"Who even knows. Do people date their blueprints? Maybe that was the problem. You should get those things sent to yourself in the mail and then don't open them. Or at least, I heard that's the poor man's copyright." She didn't know much about that stuff, but surely it had to mean something. "Annoying Guy's the worst, though. I mean, he's got a dumb accent and can't even make his own inventions."
“I agree. There's always a morbid sense of satisfaction when he dies” she said with a slight grin as they watched Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton cling to a bridge for dear life. “It's like karma. He was a tool so it was only fair that he got sucked up by a mega tornado.”
Deciding to forgo the healthier snacks Rebekah grabbed some popcorn before looking at her friend.
“Not saying I want to watch it, but you're silly shark tornado movie. How do the sharks even live while in the tornado? It makes no sense.”
“He had it coming,” she agreed. “He only had himself to blame.” There was a hint of a smile as she glanced over at Rebekah. “But I hope karma’s ignoring me most of the time because I don’t feel like dealing with my payback.”
After her question, Alecto laughed. “There’s no logic in a Syfy channel movie, Rebekah. If you’re looking for logic there, you’re looking in all the wrong places. Just accept that it is fact and that sharks are totally in tornadoes.” She smiled at her before grabbing something else off the snack table. “I can’t wait for that guy to die,” she said once whatever his name was showed up on the screen again.
