Liv made her way into a coffee shop. Not that she could taste the coffee without hot sauce, or even needed the caffeine really. But it was one of those places that did those cool designs in the foam and she just knew her instagram followers were going to love it. So obviously Liv had to go and get some just for the photo up.

She was on her phone ‘checking in’ not paying attention to where she was going when she ran into someone. “Oh em gee,” Liv gasped. “I’m so sorry!” Because really it was her fault and she wasn’t self obsessed enough not to realize it.

Like Liv, Tas had really come to enjoy this coffee shop. He even bought his own coffee most of the time instead of taking whatever was on the counter, and today someone had even drawn a dog into his cup of coffee, which was kind of the coolest thing he’d ever seen done with coffee.

He grunted a little when someone on their phone knocked into him, but he didn’t blame them. “Oh no, it’s okay!” he said cheerily, in his high pitched voice. “I can be pretty hard to see!” Even with long hair tied onto his head in a topknot, he was still well below most people’s sight lines, especially when they were distracted on their phone.

But then he got a better look at the person who’d bumped into him. He furrowed his eyebrows together as he tried to place her, but then it came to him. It wasn’t a surprise that he hadn’t recognized her right away. She looked very different than the last time he’d seen her. “Oh! Liv! Hi! It’s been so long! How are you? Are you playing Pokemon Go?”

This little, short, tiny guy knew her? Liv couldn’t remember how she knew him but she didn’t doubt that she did. “Hi!” she said just as cheerfully. “Oh, no I was just checking in on foursquare,” Liv told him. “I’m so sorry I don’t remember your name?”

“Oh! I guess I look pretty different from the last time we met!” Tas said. He’d been about a foot and a half taller, had much shorter hair, and his ears handed been pointed, so he could totally understand how she wouldn’t recognize him. “I’m Tas! Tasslehoff Burrfoot! Remember, we met when we took that surfing lesson together!”

It took a second to remember but once he mentioned the surfing lessons it all clicked. “Oh right! You could actually surf and I just failed.” Whoops. She should really try that again sometime. But anyway back to the present. “How have you been?”

“I don’t think you failed at all!” Tas said cheerily. “I think you did really really well. I just have really good balance is all. I’ve been really good! Not very long ago I got to fight a bunch of draconians! And I’ve made lots of really good friends. And look at my hair! Isn’t it wonderful?!”

He did look shorter than she remembered but that could just be her memory. Or it could be Orange County now shrinking people. Who knew. His hair was so long though. It looked amazing. “Oh em gee!” Liv exclaimed still examining his hair. “That’s amazeballs! We have to take a selfie!”

Tas gasped. “Okay!” he said cheerily. “I love taking selfies! I’m very photogenic you know. One time, Leonardo DiCaprio asked me to take a selfie himself.” Or at least, someone who looked vaguely like Leonardo DiCaprio did once years ago.

“Seriously?! Oh em gee I have to see that!” How could she resist seeing a picture of Leonardo DiCaprio? The guy was a total hottie. But first, she held out her cellphone in front of her and Tas, re-angling it a few times to get the perfect selfie.

“Okay!” Tas said. He had the photo still on his phone, though he didn’t often have cause to break it out. But he definitely was willing to take the photo first. He screwed up his eyes and stuck out his tongue, wrinkles breaking out around his eyes so that they could have a bit of a funny picture together.

Liv followed suit sticking out her own tongue to the side of her mouth posing for the selfie with Tas. She snapped a few photos then turned to face him again. “What’s your number? I can text them to you. Or oh do you have snapchat?”

Tas rattled off his number, before switching gears. “I don’t have snapchat! What’s that?” he asked.

“It’s this app where you get to send pictures to your friends, or just followers in general.” Liv said still cheerful even though she felt like she kept having to explain social media platforms. What was with all her friends. “It’s totes awesome, but the pics disappear after a few minutes unless you screenshot them.”

Tas gasped. “That sounds like a great app! I’ll definitely need to download it! I wonder who else has it. Is it very popular? Maybe my other friend’s have it too. And then I can just send photos to all my friends! Wouldn’t that be exciting? Where do they disappear to?”

“It is! There are tons of people on it,” Liv assured Tas. “Nowhere? You just can’t access them on your phone anymore unless you screenshot.” Liv was learning that social media was a lot harder to explain than she thought. “You totes need to download it.”

“Okay!” Tas said, pulling out his phone so that he could download the app immediately before he forgot. Though, chances were he’d use it for all of a week - at most - before he completely forgot he had it. It’s how most of his phone downloads seemed to go. “It’s too bad they go nowhere though! What if it was a really good photo? Oh, here, I think I got it! Gimme your info!” he said, handing his phone with the newly downloaded app to Liv.

Liv accepted the phone and followed her own account with Tas’ phone. Another follower? Hell yes. “I’m sure you’ll figure it out once you use it for a bit.” It really wasn’t that complicated but explaining these things was difficult. It was more of a see thing. “You can make faces too,” Liv added showing him how to use the filters. She used her favorite to give them both a flower crown and snapped a photo, before handing the phone back to him.

Tas gasped excitedly when he saw the flower crown on his head. “This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen!” he said excitedly, quickly scanning through the other filters. “How is this not mandatory for every phone? I might actually take pictures now! I don’t really take pictures a lot since I feel like I’ll miss things when I’m trying to, but now I might! People always tell me I should take more photos of the things I see! And now I can add little dog noses to them too!”

“Right?! It’s totes the best thing ever.” Okay maybe not the best. But it was definitely up there. “Now you can send me snaps all the time,” she added cheerfully. “I’ll let you get your coffee now. It was nice running into you!”
