The last couple of months with Vanessa had been some of the best of Dorian’s life. He was still getting used to being exclusive, but he loved Vanessa and having her as his girlfriend meant everything to him. Of course he still found other people attractive, but he had no desire to act on those feelings and he was honest with Vanessa when he did find someone attractive. She knew how much of a playboy he’d been before and in the dreams and she trusted that he loved her enough not to stray and he hadn’t.
In fact they were currently planning a trip and while Vanessa knew they were going to France, she didn’t know that he was going to surprise her with a week in Greece when they left France. He had been making all the plans with his personal travel agent and everything was almost set. This was also new to Dorian. In the past he had hoped his family's’ jet in order to impress people and more often than not, to get into their pants, but he’d never actually gone on a trip with someone of this magnitude and he couldn’t wait.
He was leaving a meeting with his travel agent where he’d been deciding where they were going to stay in Greece and was now contemplating going home or stopping by to take Vanessa to lunch.
Chuck was on his way to yet another business meeting. He tried to have all his meetings at Bass Industries but sometimes he had to go see his business associates at their officers or wine and dine them at some restaurant or another. He wasn’t in the best mood. In fact he had been in a sour mood ever since the night with Blair. A day of meetings wasn’t helping much.
He just stepped out of his limo when he spotted someone he vaguely recognized. Someone he had thought dropped off the face of the planet. “Well, if it isn’t Dorian Gray,” Chuck said with his usual smirk.
Dorian turned at the sound of his name and a slow smile spread across his lips as he recognized the speaker, “Chuck Bass. I had heard you lived out here.” Dorian had always thought that Chuck was striking and while he’d seduced straight men before, or ones who claimed to be straight, Dorian had always felt that even he wouldn’t succeed in seducing a man like Chuck.
“For a few months now,” Chuck confirmed. “I haven’t heard your name in awhile,” he added. Not since his parents had passed and he sold the company. But he wasn’t going to bring up such depressing information. Besides Chuck hated talking about his own father and his death he wouldn’t make anyone else do the same. Well anyone he liked at least. An enemy was a different story.
“I suppose I have been keeping a somewhat low profile these days.” Dorian still went to meetings with the heads of the company from time to time, but he didn’t make any of the big decisions. “I heard you opened a club of some sort though.” Had Dorian spent a little more time on Valarnet, he might have seen Chuck’s name there sooner.
Like Dorian Chuck didn’t spend too much time on Valarnet. Sometimes he wasn’t even sure why he was still on there. Though it was the best way to see what was going on with Blair these days. “Victrola, yeah,” Chuck said with a nod. “It’s been quite successful so far.” Though would you expect any less from a Bass? “You should stop by sometime.”
“I’ll be sure to make it a point to stop by once Vanessa and I return from our trip,” Dorian was very much looking forward to this trip. He had so many plans for himself and Vanessa, but mostly couldn’t wait to surprise her with the second week in Greece. It was going to be a fantastic trip so long as the dreams stayed in Orange County. Even if they weren’t bad ones, he still wanted their trip to be dream free.
“Vanessa?” Chuck asked raising a brow. “You’re actually taking a trip with a woman?” That was something not even his dreamself could do. Standing Blair up for their trip to Europe together.
“I am.” Dorian’s lips turned up in a grin, “And she’s not just any woman. We’ve actually been together for the last several months,” Dorian had never felt about anyone else the way he felt about Vanessa. In fact, Vanessa was the only person he had ever actually fallen in love with.
“Good for you,” Chuck replied though his voice was dripping with sarcasm. As much as he cared for Blair he didn’t quite understand why anyone would want to settle down with just one person. Not when there was so much temptation out there.
Dorian and Chuck had rather similar dating habits so he could understand why he used the tone he did, “It took me by surprise. I had no intention of ever doing the whole relationship thing, but Vanessa is different. Vanessa isn’t like anyone I’ve ever been with before.” The shared dreams had helped a little, of course, but even now when they were no longer together in the dreams, those feelings hadn’t gone away in the waking world, so he knew it was the real thing, “I’m guessing you haven’t found someone like that?”
Of course Blair immediately came to mind. But he knew that could never work. His dreams had proven that. And of course the night they were finally together the note he left her in the dreams showed up. She did deserve better. Chuck was not boyfriend material. “No.” Chuck confirmed. “No one like that,” he paused unsure of if he should keep talking or not. “How do you stay monogamous?” he asked letting his curiosity get the better of him.
“Perhaps one day,” Dorian had never thought it would happen to him, but now he couldn’t imagine his life without Vanessa. It was extremely interesting how his life had taken such a turn, “I won’t lie and say that I don’t still look at other men or women, I mean, I’m not dead. But I don’t have the desire to go after anyone else now. Vanessa is truly enough for me now.”
“Interesting,” Chuck commented. Because it was interesting. But just because it worked for Dorian didn’t mean it would work for him. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt Blair. “Well, I won’t keep you.”
Dorian was good at reading people and it was obvious that Chuck was dealing with something and he was fairly certain that it had to do with their conversation, but he decided not to pry. Not yet. “When I get back, I’ll stop by Victrola. I’ll even bring Vanessa.” He’d heard of Victrola and it seemed like a better club to take Vanessa to than the Need/Want.
“I look forward to meeting her,” which he genuinely meant. Chuck gave Dorian one last grin before heading off to his meeting.
