So maybe the agitation and paranoia was getting a bit much. Between meditating in her mirror to spend most of the time when she wasn’t at work, or on patrols which were becoming longer, Raven was… well, she didn’t know. But given she knew Trigon wanted to escape Hell in her dreams and the threat of bleed over…. Raven would always worry. But she also knew that maybe she should do something that wasn’t related to work, meditation or patrols.
Emerging from the mirror, she looked to the clock. Around one in the afternoon. Not too early, not too late. Okay then. Might as well go bother Ed.
Opening a portal, the teen entered his room. Only to see he was… half dressed. Eyes widening, she quickly turned around, back to him, hands clenched. Well. That was unexpected.
Aaand not so much the half she was expecting either. Hey, pants took longer when you had a giant metal leg. He’d barely managed to get a tank top on when Raven suddenly appeared in front of him. He’d only been dressed in a pair of light blue boxer shorts since metal tended to over heat at night and it wasn’t like he shared a room anymore with anyone.
He practically fell over upon her sudden appearance. “What the?” He raised a blond eyebrow as he turned around at the blur of dark hair skitter past him like a scared cat. “Raven?”
Definitely not the half she was expecting, but she had very fast reflexes in turning around. And just anything that was awkward. Should have called. Should have texted. Should have… something. But who was only getting ready for the day at one in the afternoon?! So facing the wall it was. Eyes closed tightly even though her back was to Ed already. Because it was safer that way.
“It’s one in the afternoon, I thought...ugh.” Words. What were words? But a scared or skittish cat was an apt description of her current posture.
“That bad of a view is it? ...Sorry. ” Ed frowned slightly, unable to help the comment but he had spent half a decade wearing all black until recently thanks to being fairly self conscious over his automail-he couldn’t help but let it return a little as he stepped forward. “Little help?” She’d notice a tugging, the very place she’d moved was the place he’d tossed his pants the other night. Ed never wore shorts for a reason in public, automail leg wasn’t exactly a sexy design in his own eyes.
“I only got up an hour ago, I was at the lab most of the night.” He shrugged as he pulled up pants whenever she finally moved her leg and he gave her a slightly amused look. “I don’t bite you know.” Tone changing again from the earlier hint of disappointment as he slipped on one pant leg, and then worked on the automail covered one a bit at a time.
Did he sound...disappointed? Why? What? A high pitched whine of annoyance was the response Ed got in regards to the quip he made. Yes he was teasing, she thought. Beyond the weird tinge of disappointment that was making her brain going way too fast and it was confusing and emotions were really weird and she was doing her best not to accidentally make any light bulbs or glass break. Which also meant she was missing that it was a self conscious remark and not...whatever.
Breathe in two three, breathe out two three. Or.. she could apparently have landed on his pants because of course. So quickly she moved so he could get his pants on.
Under her breath, Raven was repeating Azarath metrion zinthos to get control again. Though she did pause to look over her shoulder and quirk a brow, only to quickly turn back, blush coming through the glamour slightly.
“How do people sleep that late?” Even when she was up all night reading, Raven couldn’t sleep past seven thirty. But it was at least an actual response, fists slowly unclenching as she felt herself regaining control on her emotions and thus abilities which were already off thanks to the new set of dreams.
“I didn’t sleep until dawn.” He shrugged as he finished pulling on his usual black pants. “You can look now. It’s harder putting fabric over this.” He tapped at his leg as he sat at the edge of his bed. “It traps heat in. Burns me when I sleep.” He didn’t know why he bothered saying any of that, he supposed he just didn’t know what else to say to fill the awkward silence. “Freezes in the winter. “ He got sick a lot in those times when it got cold. Sometimes even fell ill from fever thanks to various degrees his body couldn’t adjust to very quickly.
He reached for his pocket watch that always hung from his waistband. Heat or no heat that watch never left his person.
A nod was given, though it still seemed unfathomable to Raven to sleep that late, no matter when someone fell asleep. But she supposed it made sense. The mental note was already in place though, always text now. Just in case.
“Makes sense.” The comment was said as she finally turned around. Oh good, she hadn’t made anything explode while she was trying to get everything under control again. That was good. And it wasn’t like she needed to know the why of it all. She’d just been startled and flustered. Which admittedly wasn’t as hard to do as she would have liked. For someone supposed to be in control of their emotions… Then again, she gave random vocabulary lessons when she was confused and flustered so there was that as well.
“I’ll text next time.”
He shrugged and was quiet for a moment before looking over at her with a bit of an eyebrow raised. “You didn’t do anything wrong, it’s fine.” He rubbed a fleshy hand through his hair and gave her a half amused look. “You are my girlfriend aren’t you?” There wasn’t any anger in his tone even if he had made his own mental notes though for future reference about just how skittish she was It might be a while before he was fully comfortable again to...to what? Be nearly naked around her? Why did he even think that was a thing that ought to happen? He shook his head as if to rid of the thought.
“Forget about it.” He waved off her comment about texting. “You don’t need to.” He left her for a moment, padding down the hallway, fairly quietly for someone with a metal foot to wash his face before returning with a towel around his shoulders after the usual morning thing was done. For someone who acted so lazy, Ed was ridiculously toned. But then again, nobody actually knew what training with Lina was like. He didn’t take them to his lessons, he assumed they’d be bored. His flesh arm actually had a great deal of muscle to it. Where the automail met his other however wasn’t so nice to look at-but Ed didn’t care. It was too hot for long sleeves because someone might be uncomfortable. The skin where arm and metal met looked painful, bruised and scarred where the things at the doorway had literally taken his arm.
She scrunched her nose up at the amused look, which was a sign that she was actually beginning to relax. She wasn’t the most expressive but she had her moments. Which Ed usually brought out the most. And well, he had a point about the fact that she was his girlfriend now. But that didn’t make her feel any less awkward or skittish or just worried in general because of her abilities and what that would mean.
“Well… yes…” She was thoughtful on it, worried. But it was also why she had chosen to go to his place when she decided to force herself to do something that wasn’t isolating herself in her growing paranoia of Trigon somehow showing up in Orange County, either through her father or just Orange County.
As Ed left to go wash his face, Raven let out a slow breath. Azar help her. She had no idea what she was doing or what any of this meant and while she could talk to Zatanna, she had a feeling it would lead to her wanting to hide away forever given the way she had responded when she mentioned the naked Beast Boy moment from her dreams. So for now, levitating in lotus position since it tended to be her go to.
Ed had no clue what was going on in his mind right then, he was glad he had the excuse to disappear for a moment and think about it though. Anyone would react poorly, Raven had seen his arm before and didn’t get all cringey like a lot of other people seemed to when they first saw it. Naturally she’d be cringy at this kind of scene when they’d barely even kissed once. Why his brain didn’t seem to understand that concept was beyond him, but the cool water on his face helped either way.
He returned a moment later with a smirk. “Forget it happened.” And sat on the edge of the bed. “So ah...you got bored I’m guessing?” Subject change. Yep. That was the best way to manage it.
“Well, not bored now are you?” He gave her a shit eating grin as he fixed his boot so it wasn’t as annoying on his feet.
Cyber limbs? Not a problem. Raven was used to those, had seen then. She only looked human because of a glamour, so it didn’t even register that her reaction could have been taken that way. Then again, she had also been in a ball of being completely flustered since she hadn’t expected Ed to not have pants on. But at least the brief moment of meditation had helped to ground the confusion and panicky mode she’d been in.
Forget it happened. Doubtful, but she nodded some. And subject changes were always good because there was less chance of her accidentally blowing out a lightbulb by getting flustered again.
“Ha, very funny. And yeah, bored, realized I was isolating myself again and figured I should stop so I came here.” Absently she tugged on some of the hair over her shoulder before letting it go as she lowered herself from the levitating lotus position she’d been in.
Putting his boot on his left foot was an adventure. Half the time he ended up falling over due to the ridiculous nature of trying to stick fabric over metal. It was like pulling on pants that were too tight, sometimes one just ended up on the floor struggling to force them on their body. He really hoped now that Raven was sitting there he could pull the boot on a little more gracefully than that. He needed new ones, the ones he wore were starting to get crumbly around the edges from wear. He only had the one pair, so it wasn’t surprising.
“Yep. Good call, cause not allowed.” He managed to pull on the boot without making an ass of himself. “There’s an arcade on 5th street? Last of it’s kind I think, a relic of the 90’s if you wanna go do that before it gets bulldozed into a parking lot by the end of summer?”
“See I can learn that I shouldn’t isolate myself.” Raven didn’t pay much attention to if Ed were struggling with the boots or not. Shoes could be hard enough without a metal leg to deal with. But as it seemed he had it under control, it really didn’t matter. Instead she blinked then nodded. “Sure, sounds good to me.” Just because she tended to prefer reading didn’t mean she couldn’t enjoy going to an arcade every once and awhile. Especially one that was apparently the last of its kind and about to be bulldozed.
