Strange things were happening in the OC again. Sam shouldn't have been surprised, however, since strange things happened all the time there. Still she couldn't spend all of her time locked away in her apartment, she was running out of fresh veggies and almond milk. So she decided to make a quick trip to the corner store, and stop by another place on the way back home to pick up a few veggies.

She was nearly home when she heard the scream. Her blood ran cold, and she froze in place. Softer sounds started, guttural growls and the clicking sounds that she'd heard while she'd been in the mines. "No," she took a step backwards, her heart thundering in her chest, "no, no, no…" she took several more steps back as the sounds drew closer.

She caught movement out of the corner of her eye, and slowly she turned her head to look down the dark alleyway to her right. Squinting her eyes, she saw something there. Sam couldn't make out exactly what it was, but she knew something was there. The short hairs on the back of her neck stood up, and she just stood there, frozen as it inched closer to the end of the alleyway.

This was becoming a habit. Every few weeks something insane would happen, and Tony would get his suit on to try and be a hero, try to save the day. Of course, his efforts seemed to be futile, because the crazy would just keep going until it wanted to stop. Tony was simply trying to mitigate the damages. Currently, there was some sort of slit in space time above Stark Tower (not to mention everywhere else), and crazy monsters and demons were all slipping through to terrorize all of Orange County.

Tony was in his suit tonight, moving around the county, trying to save people from whatever monsters he could. Jarvis pointed him in the direction of a woman paralysed with fear, and Tony landed with a thump a few feet away from her. He cleared his throat, the sound coming out metallic and computerized. Then he turned to get a good look at the demon in the alley.

“Wow. No wonder you’re scared.” Then he lifted a hand to send a blast after the thing.

The thump was enough to jolt Sam from her thoughts, and she turned quickly to look at the suit of armor that had appeared close to her. Sam was confused for a moment, brows furrowing as her focus shifted to him but the fear was still there. "I…" Her hands came up to cover her ears instinctively at the blast, grocery bags hitting the sidewalk and the...whatever the hell it was was gone.

The fear slowly started to ease up, although Sam's heart was beating quickly in her chest and adrenaline was still coursing through her body. Something felt off still, but she couldn't exactly put her finger on it. "Thanks...I…" She stammered, and then shook her head, "What the hell was that?"

So, the blast seemed to work out. The creature--or whatever--was fading back into the shadows again. Or dead. Let’s go with dead. Tony lowered his hand and turned back to look at the woman, taking a quick survey to make sure she wasn’t injured.

“I’m not sure. Today I’m of a mindset to shoot first and ask questions later.” Tony replied. His voice came out metallic and computerized, then he lifted his visor. “You all right?”

"Honestly? I think that's the best policy considering this place." Sam replied, hands slowly dropping down from her ears as she shuddered visibly. She was still shaken, though it was starting to subside finally. "Yeah, I'm good. I doubt my tomatoes are doing okay though." Sam replied as she looked down at her bags of groceries that she'd dropped.

Frowning, Sam bent over to pick up her bags. She'd inspect her stuff later, right now all she could think was that she wanted to get home and forget that this had happened. "Well, I'm as good as I can be. You don't think there are more of those things around do you?" She asked, brows furrowing slightly as she glanced over at the man in the suit.

“Sorry about the produce.” Tony said, glancing down at the bag she’d dropped. At least the bag wasn’t soaked through or anything. He couldn’t help with that, anyway, so he turned to glance up and down the street while she was picking it up. “I don’t know,” he replied to her question. “How far is your car? House? Can I see you safely home?”

Waving a hand, Sam shook her head. "No worries. I should know better than to go out when strange shit is going down in the OC." She let out a long breath, and glanced around nervously. "Here's to hoping not. My apartment is just down the block, and yes, please." Sam didn't want to face one of those things on her own, hell, she didn't even know if she'd be able to do anything about it. Off in the distance, she heard another sound, another Wendigo and she shuddered. "I think the sooner we go the better?"

“Sometimes it’s hard to tell.” Tony could sympathize. It was hard to tell which days it was going to rain acid or monsters or whatever. It was impossible to know whose body one might wake up in, or if suddenly one would wake up as the wrong gender. He nodded, and turned to walk with the young woman along the sidewalk, keeping his sights cleared. Jarvis was scanning the surrounding area. “You set the pace.” He could go pretty much as fast as he wanted in the suit.

It was, things did seem to happen here out of nowhere. Sam couldn't keep up, the only thing that she did know was that the OC was a strange place sometimes. Holding on tightly to her grocery bags, Sam gave a nod and started walking quite briskly down the sidewalk. Still she could hear a scream off in the distance, and she had to breathe in deeply to calm herself. Or at least attempt to anyway. That was easier said than done though, really. "So uh," she started glancing over at the man that saved her, "what's with the suit?" She asked, trying to distract herself from anything but the present situation.

Tony moved with the woman down the street. He was keeping sensors on the lookout for anything strange. The sound of the scream in the distance made him turn his head with concern. One thing at a time, though. “Do you like it?” He turned his eyes back over to the scared woman beside him on the sidewalk. “It’s actually made from a gold titanium alloy, but they call it Iron.”

Sam let her eyes wander over the suit, and she gave a small inclination of her head. "I do, and it's quite intimidating." She knew she wouldn't want to run into him if he was a bad guy. From what she'd seen though he was a good guy trying to help her out along her way home which she definitely appreciated. There was another scream off in the distance, and Sam shuddered. "They sound like the Wendigos from my dreams."

“Not sure what a Wendigo is,” Tony admitted. He knew that he didn’t know everything, as much as he tried to pretend he did. “I take it they’re nothing good.” It didn’t sound like something good. The whole world had gone a bit crazy, but that was pretty much normal, wasn’t it? Orange County was absolutely nuts. At least they could keep together and protect one another.

Letting out a deep breath, Sam thought on how she could explain what one was. "They're people that have been um, possessed by an evil spirit but only after they've eaten the flesh of another human." It was gross to say the least, but Sam couldn't say that she wouldn't do that to survive. "It changes them into monsters, basically after it happens." The front entrance to her apartment building was just right there, and Sam had never been happier to be home. Well, except when the whole evil consuming the OC had happened and there'd been monsters everywhere. Even then her home had become somewhat of a prison. "This is me." She glanced at the door, and then back at him. "Thank you, I appreciate your help. I think I've got it from here." At least, she hoped that there wasn't anything inside of her apartment building.

“Well, that sounds pleasant,” Tony said, crinkling his nose up at the thought. Sounded an awful lot like zombies to him. Or cannibals. Or some weird, horrible combination of the two. “All right,” he said, watching her up to the front door. “Stay inside. Be safe.” He said, giving her a nod. “Call Stark tower if you need my help.” Then he turned to head off back into the fray.
