Rarity sighed, tossing the found down while applying pressure to the wound. She’s sitting on the counter of her bathroom head against the mirror. There is obviously blood on the floor, counter, sink. A few dots on the fabric she’d been cutting. She honestly can’t remember if she did it by accident, or purpose. Given the state of her head and the condition of her body, she’ll blame both.
She coughed, wincing while holding the towel firmer against the wound. She wanted Azula, maybe she could cauterize it then help her dress it. Setsuna would... She just couldn’t face her to be entirely honest. She’d be terrified to see her face. Azula she could handle, Setsuna... Possibly not so much.
She looked up when she heard the door click. “I’m in here!”
The moment she’d received the text, Setsuna had left her flat and made straight for Rarity’s shop. It’d been ominous enough to evoke that sort of reaction from the newly-awakening Time Guardian, and she could only hope that she hadn’t done anything too severe in the time it’d taken her to get there.
“You have Azula to thank for this.” Honestly, she couldn’t blame the other woman for avoiding this. She made her way to the bathroom, rather aware that she probably wasn’t who Rarity exactly wanted to see right now. “You’re lucky to have a friend like her.”
The moment Rarity saw Setsuna she turned around to hide her arm all the more, holding her shoulders up. “I asked for Azula... Please just go, princess.” Hissed out when she moved the towel off to check on the bleeding. “I don’t want you to see me like this...”
She looks terrible, her hair a mess and sticking out everywhere. Her skin is clammy and she’s obviously shaking from stuff beyond the pain of the wound. “Why the hell is she making me quit... I feel like hell.”
“It’s for your own good. Trust me,” Setsuna moved to gently take the towel off her, just so she could take a better look at the wound. She’d honestly seen worse, if only in her dreams, so... she could handle it. “What made you do this?”
“I don’t know.” winced at the contact of air to it. “Or at least I don’t remember.” Looked up to her. “How the hell is it for my own good if I feel like my brain and body is going to explode. It doesn’t make any sense.” It’s really not terrible, but it is bleeding rather badly still.
Setsuna sighed, wrapping the towel back around it in a way that’d keep the pressure at least somewhat constant. “It’s just part of the withdrawal symptoms. You’ll survive.”
Rarity hissed at the initial contact of the towel, jerking her arm away. After a short while she let out the air in her lungs, allowing her arm to relax. “I don’t like it. I feel awful, I don’t want to face anyone... I didn’t want you seeing me like this. I look absolutely dreadful.” Turned her face away and down, not looking up at her at all.
She wanted to be perfect for her. She couldn’t be as smart, but she could do what she does best, make herself look pretty.
“There’s nothing wrong with being less than perfect, you know... if anything, it’s overrated.” Maybe that was just in Setsuna’s eyes, though. She’d never understood society’s obsession with it.
“You’re the one who’s perfect...” Ran her hand in her hair, trying to straighten it. “Why can’t I just go back to smoking? It helped me cope. It made it to where I...” Shook her head, forcing those thoughts back down where they should be. She wasn’t insane, and didn’t need anything medication wise, but everyone could use a therapist visit or two.
Hell, just someone to tell all your past insecurities to, to clear your head. Yet she wasn’t one to go down to that road. She liked keeping the past in the past.
Setsuna shook her head. “I’m anything but perfect...” It wasn’t like she had any great shortage of issues herself. Growing up in Japan and being anything but pure Japanese did have a terrible tendency to end badly, thanks to the ridiculous amounts of xenophobia.
She adjusted the towel a little, trying to buy herself some time before she spoke again. “Maybe you need someone you can talk to about all this. There are a lot of therapists on the valarnet who might be able to help.”
“I’m not crazy!” Pulled her arm away and turned away from her, removing the towel to check the now not bleeding wound out. It’s not like she hasn’t cut herself with scissors by accident before. You don’t learn to cut fabric or sew properly over night. Once checked over and cleaned, she stood up to get the medical kit under the sewing table.
“I don’t need to talk to anyone. I’m perfectly fine, darling.” She’s still not looking at her, not wanting to see her expression at all.
“You don’t have to be ‘crazy’ to need a therapist. They see a lot of different people.” Trying to be the voice of reason could be quite difficult, but dammit, she was going to manage it now. No matter how frustrating it might end up being.
“I’m not going to get a therapist. You can’t make me.” Gave a frustrated noise when she couldn’t get the tape undone. She let out an almost growl, throwing it across the room.
If she was going to be like that, Setsuna wasn’t going to push the issue. She retrieved the tape, resisting the urge to manifest the Time Key and hit her with it. “Fine. Then at least be more honest with your feelings?”
If that was asking too much, she wasn’t sure of the best way to go about this.
“I just... I tried calling my mother the other day. I told her that I was starting to make it with my fashion, that my designs were being worn by people who were famous. Even an Olympian. She just said it was still childish dreams. All I’ve ever wanted was for her to say she was proud of me. I’ll never get that.” Looked over to her. “You’re proud of me, right?”
Her tears are starting to form. She used smoking to distract from everything. Now that it wasn’t there for her to fall back on, she’s unsure of where she can go with everything that she thinks up.
Why did so many parents seem to revel in crushing the dreams of their children? It was just depressing, and something that Setsuna had seen far too much when she’d been teaching in Japan. “I think you’ve achieved something amazing, no matter what your idiot of a mother says... and I guess that means yes, I’m proud of you.”
Rarity managed a half smile, wiping her eyes off. “You’re amazing, you know.” She stood up to walk over to get the tape. When she returned, she held it out. “Can you please help me bandage this? I’ve never cut myself there, I guess it was on purpose.”
She let out a low sigh, flopping down on the small chair by the table. “I’m a mess. You can find someone else if you wanted to. Or at least until I’m not going crazy. Coming off of this addiction has not been fun.” There, she admitted it was an addiction.
That certainly said a lot for personal growth. Setsuna was careful as she bandaged the cut up properly, her touch as light as she could possibly manage. “You’re a strong woman, you know. I think you’ll manage just fine... just text me if you start feeling like that again, okay?”
She’d always hated to see people she cared for hurt, and, honestly? She’d probably never cared for anyone quite as much as she did for Rarity.
“I will.. No use texting Azula. She’d text you anyway.” Half giggled making sure her hand was still fine with moving. She had to at least finish the bodice. But first, attention to Setsuna. She lifted a hand up to brush her hair behind her ear before giving a very gentle kiss. Nothing too passionate, just one to show enough affection and thanks for her having come over.
“I always wanted a prince charming that came to my rescue. But I think I like a princess better.” Playfully smirked.
Setsuna couldn’t help a soft laugh, shaking her head. “I’m really not a princess, but... if you insist, I suppose I can’t complain.”
“Oh darling... You really are!” Rarity couldn’t help but make a silly noise as she ran back to grab one of the wedding tiara’s from the box. “I’ll prove it!” Placed it on her hair and fluffed at her hair so it lay at her shoulders.
She tipped her head. “Think I could get you out of these clothes and into a gown?”
Setsuna arched an eyebrow. Okay, maybe she’d gone slightly insane... “Maybe some other time. I know you like to get more than a little hands-on when you do things like that.”
“Can’t do the sex thing, shark week.” Shrugged and took the crown off, setting it on the table while shifting a few of the fabrics aside.
That was one of the most disturbing (and yet slightly hilarious) ways of describing... certain things. At least that Setsuna’d ever heard. “I’m not even going to ask where you picked that phrase up from. Because I value my sanity.”
Rarity giggled again, clearing off the couch across from the TV she’d set up. “Want to at least cuddle and watch a movie?” Smiled up to her. “I can order in pizza or Thai food. And I have chocolates in the back room.” Gave a pouty puppy eye stare. One could almost think there was glitter in her eyes.
Oh, that was cheating. On so many levels. “Well... I suppose I can’t deny you that. And it’s not like I have anything else to do today...”
Well, not that was monstrously important. She could deal with it all another day.
“Yay!” She yanked her down to the couch and pushed up against her, picking up her phone to call for it. “What do you like on your pizza? I don’t eat meat so mine’s usually just veggie.” Moved to resting her head on her lap, making a few kissy faces up at her. “Oh, and what kind of movie do you want to watch. I have netflix here, we can just choose!”
Well, now it was Setsuna’s turn to be ridiculously cheesy. “I don’t really mind what, as long as I’m with you. You make most things pretty good.” Honestly, that was an understatement, but she wasn’t about to outright say that.
It’d just make things awkward.
Rarity blushed, turning on ‘Beauty and the Beast’ because she can, and set to ordering breadsticks and the pizza. Once ordered, she cuddled up even closer, giving off a contented noise once she was fully comfortable. “I like being with you...”
That was probably one of the few times Setsuna had ever heard anything like that. She couldn’t help a slight blush. “I’m... not that great a person to be with, am I? I’m pretty boring, far as most people go.”
Especially in a place like this. Even in her limited circle of friends, it seemed like she was the least interesting one by far, even with the occasional miniskirt moments.
“I don’t think you’re boring. You’re amazingly smart, you have a unique sense of humour, you’re absolutely gorgeous, you share my taste in fashion and fine things. You aren’t boring to me.” Poked her nose and wiggled happily down. Being with Setsuna was honestly nice.
She gave a face when she realised she was comfortable but the mini fridge was across the room. Focusing, her forehead glowed, as did the door of the fridge. Once open, two fancy sodas floated over to them, the door shutting behind it. She set the one for Setsuna on the table beside them, and her own in her hand.
So, that was the magic she’d mentioned... interesting. In a way, Setsuna could almost be jealous - that sort of magic at least had practical applications, but her own... well, it seemed exclusively dedicated to protecting and fighting. Even if she wasn’t sure what they were meant to protect just yet, or what they were meant to fight.
“Why can’t we all develop skills as useful as that?” It was a legitimate question! Especially considering how many people seemed to be ‘normal’ in this place.
“Because you’re not as fabulous as I?” She’s teasing of course, and it’s shown in her voice. “It’s taken me forever and more freaky dreams, to get to this much. It’s very helpful when I’m piecing together my ensembles.” She took a sip of her drink, giggling at the movie. “You know, it was this movie that made me want to make gowns.”
It was probably useful in a lot of different ways. Including in some ways that were less than family-friendly, but Setsuna wasn’t about to bring that up. “I can understand why... it’s a genuinely gorgeous film. I think it was actually one of the first Disney films I saw.”
Well, in English, at least. She’d seen the occasional one or two dubbed into Japanese whilst she was growing up.
Rarity gave another contented noise. “It’s amazingly beautiful. I love how each of the outfits are for their specific lines of work. The fabric choices had to be distinct to breathe or hold from heat.” Took another sip before looking up at her properly. “What is Japan like, anyway?”
That wasn’t exactly an easy question to answer. True, Setsuna had spent most of her life in her home country, but... not all the memories were pleasant ones. “Speaking as a teacher, our history and mythologies are amongst some of the most fascinating in the world. As just a regular person... the xenophobia is a problem, but... for the most part, it’s not too bad.”
Although, there was something to be said about how damned strange the place could be. She’d only really started to realise that when she’d left the country.
“Xenophobia is when someone has fear of someone from a different race, right?” Tipped her head, brushing her hair behind her ear.
Setsuna nodded. “Or a particularly strong dislike. People like me, who aren’t full Japanese, don’t exactly have the easiest run through life.”
“That isn’t fair!” Pouted and put her soda down to gently hug her. “I don’t have that against you, and never will. I find you sexy as hell.” Kissed her neck once for kicks before going back to cuddling against her lap.
Setsuna couldn’t help a slight smile. “I know. That’s one reason I’m really starting to prefer this country over Japan...” True, Japan had its benefits, and there really wasn’t a greater place when it came to technology and gaming bits and pieces, but... here, she wasn’t judged quite as harshly simply because her parents had come from completely different parts of the world.
It was actually pretty damn refreshing.
