It was the best present ever. Anna cherished what Minato had given her, and had taken extra care with it for the first few weeks that she’d carried the thing around. But eventually she was a little less careful, a little less obsessed. She left her keys on the coffee table after coming in from the store, and then went to the kitchen to start unloading some groceries.
“Anna?” Stefan called from one room over. He picked up her keys carefully and held them in his hand. “Why do you have a sword on your keychain?” He asked, lifting the thing to examine it. It was the kind of thing that would have meant major magic in his Dreams. He wasn’t sure why Anna would have such a thing, though. Was it from her Dreams?
“Hmm?” Anna poked her head through the doorway to the living room then broke into a smile at the sight of Stefan with her keys. “No! It’s not a sword!” She came bouncing over and took the keys from him. “It’s a… crap, I can’t remember what it’s called. But my friend gave it to me. He said all I had to do was hold it, and call out to him, and Minato would come to protect me.”
Minato had just finished working on a few things for the day. He'd actually spent the better part of the day down in his basement, aka his makeshift studio, working on choreography for a piece. Afterward he'd showered, and he was just about to fix himself something to eat when he felt a strange tug, a pull really on his chakra and his heartbeat quickened. "Anna…" He murmured, hands forming seals quickly before he teleported right beside her.
Minato's brows drew low over his eyes as he assessed the situation in front of him. It didn't appear that she was in any immediate danger, so that was a good thing. "Um...are you okay?" He asked, glancing back and forth between the two of them, unsure of what exactly was going on.
Stefan startled at the man appearing in his living room. He took a half step back, his hands coming up a little as if ready to… to what? Pounce? After the motion passed, as Stefan was realizing what happened, he started to feel incredibly foolish.
Anna actually jumped when the other man appeared in the living room. She gave a little yip of surprise, and then lifted a hand to her chest, the other to her mouth. Unfortunately, that one was holding her keys, and they came flying into her face. She winced, recoiled, and then nodded. “Yes! Yes, I’m okay… I just… wow.” She had one eye scrunched as she turned to look at Minato. “...I guess this thing really works?” Wow. Awesome. ...and a little awkward.
Minato winced slightly as Anna hit her face, and then he chuckled softly. "Yes, it does work." Minato wouldn't have given her a dud after all, since he honestly did want to protect those that were close to him. "I'm also very glad that I made sure those edges were dull on that Kunai." He gave Anna a wink, and a teasing smile, trying to keep the mood light although his heart was still beating erratically in his chest.
Honestly he'd been scared, and worried for Anna's safety, but he was trying to play it off now. It'd been nothing more than an accidental summoning, and everything was fine.
He stuck out his hand to Stefan, a small smile on his face. "I'm Minato Namikaze." He gave an inclination of his head in Stefan's direction, all the while still holding out his hand. Minato rarely met a stranger, and could typically find some common ground to talk to them about.
While Anna rubbed at her nose, Stefan gave a little chuckle. Anna was such a sweet girl, and Stefan was so very fond of her. Like a big brother who wanted to watch over his little sister. He stepped forward and reached a slightly cool hand out to shake the other man’s. “Stefan Salvatore,” he said, introducing himself. “It’s good to meet you, Minato.” And it was. Good to know that there were other people who were watching out for Anna. She needed it.
“Minato’s helping me learn to cook,” Anna explained, leaning over to watch the pair of them shake hands. She liked to introduce people, liked that her friends all seemed to get along! “And Stefan’s a little protective, so don’t… don’t take it personally if he tries to break your fingers, or something.” She nods at the handshake.
Stefan gave a rather tight squeeze, but let go, turning to Anna in mock indignation. “I would never.”
"Same to you, Stefan." Minato replied, giving his hand a firm shake in return. He glanced over at Anna, a brow quirking up and a half smile tugging up the corners of his lips at the tight squeeze that Stefan gave his hand. "I'll keep that in mind, but I think I might be able to outrun him...for a bit anyway." He teased, his voice clearly light and playful.
He would never do anything to hurt Anna, or anything like that. After all, he'd given her the kunai with the hopes of helping out if he was needed. He hated the idea of anyone he cared about getting hurt, and because he could fight, and could get people out of harm's way.
"And yes, cooking. We've been working on that. I've been learning a lot of different things myself, so it's been a lot of fun." And it really had been, Minato had been having a lot of fun learning about a lot of different foods and things with Anna. "Which, it's been awhile since we've had a cooking night. We should do that again soon." Minato glanced over at Anna, giving her a soft smile.
Stefan smirked a little at the quirked brow, and then released the other’s hand. It was a firm shake, but Stefan wasn’t going to hurt the guy. He knew this guy wanted to protect Anna--gave her a charm to summon him, and everything. Maybe Minato wanted her safe as much as Stefan did. Hopefully Minato was another older-brother figure, though there seemed to be something more there. Stefan wasn’t going to assume things. He didn’t want to meddle in Anna’s love life.
“Wait, you’re actually eating food Anna’s prepared?” Stefan asked, teasing the redhead. “And you haven’t had food poisoning yet?”
“Shut up!” Anna said, lifting a hand to swat at Stefan’s arm. Hard. She could hit him as hard as she wanted, really, because the dude was like stone. They were both laughing, though, as she pulled back. “He’s teaching me. No more food poisoning.”
“All right, all right.” Stefan conceded. “Well, good luck with that. I’ll leave you two to make your plans.” He turned to head back into the kitchen.
Anna was blushing as she turned back to Minato. “Sorry. I’m really sorry,” she said, smiling apologetically. “I shouldn’t have called you when it wasn’t an emergency. And we should totally cook together again. I’d like that a lot.”
Minato smiled at the interaction between Stefan and Anna. It was clear that the other man cared for her, even if he was picking at her. "Nope, I've not gotten sick from anything that she's cooked." He honestly hadn't been worried about it, but honestly he had to wonder what might've happened in the past.
That was if anything had actually happened before they'd started cooking together.
He watched Stefan leave and then he glanced over at Anna. Shaking his head, Minato lifted a shoulder. "Don't worry about it. He seems like a very nice guy." Minato let out a soft sigh, placing a gentle hand on her upper arm. "I'm just thankful that you're okay." He'd definitely been worries about her, although he understood that sometimes mistakes happened.
"I'm free whenever. We could do another class or try to figure out something else to try. I'm down for whatever."
“Okay! Maybe soon? Um… I don’t really have many plans,” Anna mused aloud. “That’s the great thing about summer, I guess. I don’t have many other things going on, so I’m free pretty much whenever.” She gave him a smile. “Um… we can see what’s in the kitchen and make something from that? Or, do you want to try for another day?”
That was the good thing about summer. Sometimes Minato missed being in school, however, he was quite content with the way his life had turned out. He thought for a moment about her offer, "I could eat." He hadn't actually realized how hungry he was until she'd mentioned cooking, "Why don't we go take a peek and see what you've got?" He smiled over at her, "But I'm up for figuring out another night for us to go to a class, or I could just take you out to eat one night. Grab sushi maybe?"
“Yeah!” Anna led the way into the kitchen, excitedly. She had good food in the house--she and Elsa were growing all kinds of fresh vegetables in the garden at the Arendelle household--but she didn’t know what to do with it. So she opened the fridge and showed off the vegetables: zucchini, tomato, cucumber, kohlrabi, beans, peas, and a couple of early bell peppers.
“I love sushi! I mean, we won’t learn much if we don’t make it ourselves, right?” She said, turning to him.
"Oh wow," Minato stated, letting out a low whistle. "There's lots of things we can do with all of this goodness." His mind was already trying to come up with things that they could possibly make when Anna spoke again.
He smiled softly, "I love it too. And well, I was thinking that it might be nice to just go out and not worry about cooking for one night. You know, have a little date night." Minato didn't think much of his words as they came out of his mouth. After all, it wasn't as if they hadn't been on a date before.
...a little date night? Anna paused at the words, a little surprised. She was still kinda new to all of this stuff, this dating stuff. And she’d been out with him before… so they’d been dating, hadn’t they? But it wasn’t really fair for her to be going out with him when she was frequently sleeping with someone else--even if the someone else was just a friend. Right? What was the proper etiquette for a situation like this?
“Um… Minato,” she said, taking a step forward and bringing a hand to touch his arm. She wanted his full attention for this. “...I… I think we should talk about this. I mean, the date night thing.” She said, and released his arm to take a step back. “Because I’ve been seeing someone. Kinda. Actually, I’m not really seeing him, but I kinda… we’re friends?” Why was it so hard to put into words?
Minato pulled his attention away from the food, and turned to face Anna at the hand to his arm. Something wasn't right. He could tell that by the look on her face. His smile faltered, slowly fading from his face as he looked at her. Well, that was a little surprising. He let out a long breath, "And you like him?" He prompted her, a small smile tugging up one corner of his mouth even if it didn't quite meet his eyes like many of them did.
He got it. She liked this guy, even if he was just a friend, moreover she liked him more than just in a friendly way. Minato wouldn't deny that it didn't hurt a little, he'd really thought that there was, or could've been something more there between the two of them. Man, he was really off his game. "I get it. I do. You don't have to explain."
Anna felt like she did, though. It wasn’t that she didn’t like Minato--that was far from the truth. But she didn’t want to hurt him. She didn’t want things to get too far with him, or with the other guy, before she knew what was she was doing. And Anna really didn’t know what she was doing.
“I’m sorry, Minato, I just don’t want to… I don’t want anyone to get hurt here. I want to be honest with you.” Anna explained, trying to be gentle. Trying to be clear.
Minato offered her a soft smile, "It's fine, and I appreciate your honesty with me, Anna." He truly did appreciate it since it would save a lot of his feelings in the long run. At least he knew where he stood where things with them were concerned, and that was better than not knowing. "But don't be sorry. You have nothing to be sorry for." She didn't, not as far as he saw it, "Now, why don't we see what we can manage here in the kitchen? We'll figure out the sushi thing later."
“Okay.” Anna still felt bad. She worried she was being selfish. While her needs were being met by someone else--someone that she was developing feelings for seemingly against her will--she still wanted to spend time with Minato. Were they dating? Now that she thought of it, they totally were. But that wasn’t fair to him. Unless he wanted to go on like they were… he just needed all the facts. Anna was sort of seeing someone else. She hadn’t pledged anything to anyone, she just wanted everyone to have all the facts. “Let’s make something to eat.”
