Who: Magnus Bane, Alec Lightwood, Isabelle Lightwood and Simon Lewis When: Backdated: Saturday, July 2nd. Evening Where: Rift at Baxter's Bakery What: Demon fighting double date Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly Status: Complete
Demon hunting was one thing Simon had never expected he’d actually end up doing. Demon hunting as a double date was especially something Simon had never expected to end up doing, but Izzy had had the idea that this would be a good double date idea for them and Magnus and Alec. Simon would have been happy with a movie and coffee or something else less dangerous, but Izzy had been excited about the idea, so he’d agreed. Besides, Simon might have had the least amount of experience in this area, but he also had the best weapon. Anything that tried to hurt him would die instantly. So perhaps he had an advantage over the other two Shadowhunters and the warlock.
Magnus had thought it an interesting idea and had only agreed if Alec agreed since the last time they had tried to force Alec to fight monsters it had backfired on them. Sure that was at least two years ago when being a Shadowhunter and warlock were new to them, but he still hadn’t wanted to force Alec to go out and fight demons unless he wanted to even if he thought it was a good idea. After all, the less demons on the streets, the better.
Izzy, naturally, thought it was the best idea ever and had sweet talked her boyfriend and brother into agreeing. Magnus she knew she never had to truly worry about if Alec was on board, he was the perfect brother-in-law.
“Okay so they’ve left Baxter’s 2 alone but the main bakery is apparently really busy with them so shall we head that way?” she asked them as they all met up.
Alec had his reservations when it came to this date idea but unlike last time, at least, everyone had a better sense of their own skills and it was properly planned out. So, while he didn’t like that he was helping his sister put herself in harm’s way, he was more than glad to know that there were others to help protect her. Besides, he couldn’t help but feel good whenever he got to put on his Shadowhunter gear.
He gave the area one last look over, not wanting to overlook anything that could harm someone before nodding. “Yeah, sounds like a good plan.”
It definitely wasn’t a conventional double date, but did they ever really do anything that was conventional? “I agree. It would be horrible for Audrey to find her bakery ruined by demons.” Magnus lifted a hand, a few blue sparks emanated from his fingers briefly. “I’ve been working on a few new spells at the Guild, so it’ll be kind of fun to use them. Although, let’s try not to die. I don’t want our anniversary marred by anyone’s death.”
“Well, I can guarantee that I won’t die.” Simon said as they walked towards Baxters, “Unless the Rune stops working of course. Then I can’t guarantee anything. I don’t know exactly how invincible I am otherwise.” If the dreams were any indication though, the Rune didn’t appear to be fickle and would work for however long it was on Simon’s forehead.
“Nobody is going to die, honestly boys where is your positivity?” Izzy said with a roll of her eyes, “This is going to be a fun date and a wonderful way to extend your anniversary celebrations” she added to Magnus and her brother with a wink as she let her whip unwind itself from around her wrist.
“Maybe I could be wrong but we are talking an awful lot. Wouldn’t it be best to move silently, or do we want these things to know where we are?” Alec mentioned as the moved. If they were going to do this, he thought it best to not give away their position; they didn’t know just what creatures were lurking about. “But Izzy, this isn’t exactly a way I want to remember my anniversary…”
“Alec has a point,” Simon said, voice lowered now. This was the first time he’d gone demon hunting, but not making noise when pursuing anything dangerous seemed like a very good idea. “Also, next time we go on a double date, I vote for something normal like bowling.”
Magnus glanced over at Alec and smirked, “No, it’s not. Maybe we could have a dinner party though. That would be a good way to remember it.” As they continued walking and talking, they quickly reached Baxter’s where a glowing green rift hung over the building while four demons milled about beneath it, “One for each of us then?”
Izzy had rolled her eyes at her brother with a smile, she thought it was a fun way to remember an anniversary but then she was a little more gung ho about this kind of thing.
“Sounds perfect” Izzy said grabbing Simon’s hand and tugging him forward with her to take on their two demons.
Alec was already notching an arrow, upon seeing the demons. “You have a weird idea of what’s perfect,” he muttered to his sister who was taking off down the street, with Simon in tow. He glanced over at Magnus, “I am forbidding this kind of ‘celebrating’ before you even think about trying to make this a regular thing.” With that, he lined up his shot and released the arrow, already grabbing another from the quiver strapped to his back.
Magnus wasn’t the least bit surprised by Isabelle’s excitement at killing demons and chuckled at Alec’s statement, “Don’t worry, I for one hope our next anniversary is demon free.” He smirked at Alec then proceeded to begin throwing various spells at the demon Alec had yet to skewer.
As the demons were killed they were reabsorb we into the rift and simply replaced with new ones. Simon might not have had the same skill Alec did with a bow, but he was a fairly good shot and had just taken out a demon that looked sort of like a praying mantis when it was replaced with a large demon with horns and almost looked like it was made of stone. Simon was still staring at it when it lifted a long, electricity charged whip and flicked it at him. Before the whip could touch him, Simon felt the Mark on his forehead burn and within the blink of an eye the demon was dust. “I should just let the demons attack me.”
Izzy didn’t understand the reticence from her brother, they were getting a chance to use their amazing skills for once. How was that not exciting? Izzy’s own whip wrapped around a demon’s neck and with a flick of her wrist it’s head was off and it disappeared.
Moving over to Simon she pressed a quick kiss to his lips, “My unbeatable boyfriend” she grinned at him, turning them quickly so that the demon about to attack was reduced to dust thanks to Simon’s gift, “Amazing” she winked before turning to take on the next one herself.
“Unless you know everything that these demons are capable of, I would suggest trying not to get hit. Don’t need to getting overly-reliant on that mark,” Alec pointed out. It would be incredibly upsetting if the Mark didn’t work and Simon were to end up hurt, or worse. “Besides, what if they realize what you are up to?” He didn’t want them making careless mistakes.
Simon hadn’t actually thought that it was possible for the demons to figure out that he was tricking them into attacking him, “He kind of has a good point.” He said to Isabelle, deciding that it was probably a good idea to simply continue using his weapons on the demons. “Bow and arrow it is then. Mark as a backup.”
Alec’s level head in battle was why he was the leader and Magnus found that incredibly sexy. However, he didn’t have time to focus on that as he needed to keep his attention on the demons. “I’ve always thought that it’s better to attack the demons first than let them attack me.”
“Alright then” Isabelle said, she definitely didn’t want to entertain the possibility of the mark not working. That was unthinkable. “Let’s stop talking about it and actually attack them then” she grinned at the boys before doing just that.
Now that that was out of the way, Alec focused on the task at hand, picking off demons from afar, as much as possible. He was, also, making sure to keep an eye on everyone to make sure that no one would be getting overwhelmed. At least, they all seemed to function pretty well as a team.
The only thing missing from this particular demon hunting evening were Jace and Clary, but Simon was sure that there would be other times for all of them to go out like this and honestly, Clary might have been his best friend, but he knew Alec and Izzy better than he knew Jace and trusted them both with his back in a situation like this.
The longer they fought and the more demons it expelled, the weaker the rift appeared to get until after one last batch of demons it grew smaller and while no more demons appeared, it stayed open, “We should probably let Max know about this one so he can close it.” Magnus only really knew Max through Dorian and in passing at the Guild, but he knew that these rifts were apparently from his and Dorian’s dreams and that Max was the one who could close them.
