"Do you think someday we might be able to do that bond thing?"
Who: Shep and Liara What: Hey hey the IM is dead, so about those biotics.. When: Sometime after IM is dead! Where: Their house Status: Complete Rating: PG-13 for innuendo and little blue babies.
Shepard was quick to get home, but then she was generally quick to see Liara whenever she got the chance, which was pretty often these days. Yet it always felt like it was never quite enough, especially in light of Liara’s coldness in her dreams of late. She felt that was somehow her own fault, and it was difficult to shake when she wasn’t looking at her lover. Her fiance. Crap.
She entered the house half expecting it to be a wreck.
To Liara’s credit, she’d largely been able to avoid accidentally blowing anything up. Her phone was pretty much a loss, thanks to being exposed to the weirdly sparking biotics for too long, but other than that... well, you’d have to look hard to find anything.
“Shepard!” Oh, the effort it took to keep herself from just tackling her. There’d been moments where she’d thought it’d be weeks before she saw her again. Moments that Miranda had mocked her for, actually. “I’m... sorry if I pulled you away from anything. I just thought... well, that you needed to know about...”
She raised a hand, her biotics flickering slightly. “About this... thing.”
Nothing important seemed to be lost, and Liara and Miranda were alive so that's what mattered, "I've been worried about you." She didn't tackle Liara, but did come closer and slip her arms around her, not caring if she got shocked. Which did happen, and sent her tumbling over the table.
She looked up at Liara and laughed, "Well there went my plans for later tonight."
Liara looked suitably mortified, trying to somehow find the ‘off’ switch for the damn thing. No amount of flailing seemed to be working - any lesser woman would probably pout. “I... guess it’s hard for us to do anything you’ve planned as long as I’m accidentally shocking everything.”
Miranda had damn well better be having the exact same amount of trouble.
Shepard crushed a bubbling sort of excitement. This wasn't the time to be happy about this development, but she was, and it was hard to keep the smile off her face, "You'll get control, Liara. I know you will. Until then I'm going to need to shock proof all the electronics."
She got to her feet and brushed herself off. Liara was more Liara now, if that made any sort of sense at all, "Have you done anything else, or is it just shocking?"
If Shepard had managed to ask her about that, Liara probably would’ve agreed. She might not’ve gone blue yet, but she was definitely one step closer to the woman she was in her dreams. If probably a little less terrifying sometimes. “I... accidentally shoved one of the doctors at the hospital clear across the room?”
It’d been the first thing she’d done on waking up, actually!
The day Liara went blue would be the day Tyra kidnapped her for a month. Just saying. She winced at Liara's admission, "Great, that's going to be hard to explain. No wonder they let you come home."
She looked at Liara's hands, which continued to glow and crackle, "Maybe you need to talk to Wrex. He's gotten some level of control already."
With any luck, the doctor would’ve written it off as one of the myriad insane happenings that seemed to happen all around the OC. True, Liara wasn’t famed for her luck in that sort of field, but she could live in hope.
“Wrex?” The name sounded... familiar. After a moment, it clicked. “The Krogan? From the dreams? ...Tell me he doesn’t look like one of them here.”
"Well his face is uglier," Shepard replied, grinning wryly. "He's the one in charge of that ranch I worked at. The one that blew up after the meteor hit."
God, she itched to touch Liara. That wasn't new. Since she'd first met her (in both places) it was a common feeling for her. She couldn't right now, "Less angry a lot of the time."
Liara couldn’t help but laugh, shaking her head. “Don’t let him hear you say that, Shepard. He might... I don’t know, do Krogans pout?”
That was one hell of a mental image. “If you think he can help, I’d definitely go along with it.” Anything that’d stop her from accidentally frying half the electronics they owned.
"This one does," She replied, grinning. She tried to imagine the former merc pouting, and it was entirely too funny a mental picture.
"I'll give him a message, see if he might have some ideas." She sat down next to Liara, but this time didn't try to take her hand. She wanted to, though, "Do you think someday we might be able to do that bond thing?"
With any luck, the sparking would stop soon enough. It’d done that earlier, after Liara’d accidentally blasted that poor doctor... maybe they just needed to set up a range where she could vent off her biotics, at least until she gained better control.
“Maybe? It... seems like the biotics are only the first step. Being able to ‘bond’ with you might be the next...” she was quickly turning red. How was it that it was even more embarrassing than usual sex?
Shepard could set up something in the house, really, if she just needed to vent off biotics. She had the gym room that had been set up to train and work on her body. With some reinforcement it could serve to help Liara train up.
Liara’s blushing only made Shepard’s smile harder to contain, “I miss that intimacy. I mean, it’s been wonderful being physically close to you, of course. But it’s something so..unique and....”
“It’s embracing eternity. It’s something completely different from purely physical things...” And from what Liara had experienced in her dreams, it was actually kind of better. The wonders of being linked like that, she supposed.
“It’s something only you could ever really offer me.” Sure, there might have been plenty of Asari who could, but none of them were Liara and that was the most important part. Eternity would be a lonely, sad place without her.
The logical part of Liara’s mind wanted to point that out. There wasn’t any great shortage of Asari in their dreams - in fact, they seemed to outnumber a lot of other races half the time. Especially in seedy bars...
Logic could take a backseat for now, though. “You’re honestly the only woman I’d ever consider doing that with... you’re dashing, heroic, and just the right level of crazy.”
Shepard would never be able to deny that she'd often frequented those seedy bars, both before and after she'd met Liara. Especially after. Ahem. She could look and not touch. Okay, and dance. Well pretend to dance. None of them were Liara, but when one was pining for someone they thought they couldn't have (and then thought didn't want them any more), well, one could get desperate.
Which is probably the first time she ever admitted to herself that she'd worried that Liara hadn't wanted her any more, after encountering her in Ilium. The Shadow Broker stuff had helped quell that fear, though it had resurfaced after finding Liara on Mars.
Sometimes it was a rollercoaster ride with that woman.
"Only woman, huh? Any men I need to shoot?" Her tone was joking. Except the shooting part.
Liara couldn’t help but laugh, shaking her head. “No need to shoot anyone. No man could ever be as interesting as you.”
Honestly, they just didn’t make men like Shepard. She might’ve been a little biased in thinking that, but... it was probably warranted.
"Well that's refreshing. I'm not sure if that's damning or not. You know the old curse about living in interesting times, right?" It was probably true. They didn't make many people in general like Shepard, though the woman was one to rarely brag. Except for perhaps to goad Garrus or to brag about having Liara, which was perfectly understandable.
Liara was quite the catch.
And in Liara’s humble opinion, Shepard had every right to brag. You didn’t save the universe countless times without proving that you were completely and utterly amazing, no matter how many times Shepard claimed it was down to her team.
It took an incredible person to bring together such a varied team, especially considering she’d kept them from all killing each other. “The supposed ancient Chinese curse? I’d like to think it doesn’t apply to things said by Asari.”
Killing each other had been a valid concern. Although watching Miranda and Jack catfight had been tempting, she’d needed them both working together, and alive. She’d later remarked to Liara that if Miranda and Jack would screw and get it over with then a lot of tension could be averted. For her own safety she’d never said that to either of them.
She probably would now, though.
“The Asari exception? I can live with that.” She stole a quick kiss of her fiance’s cheek, enjoying the little shock she got.
From now on, everything had an Asari exception. Liara was on the verge of flailing when she realised she’d accidentally shocked Shepard again, but... then she saw the look on her face. Seriously? “You’re enjoying this too much, Shepard.”
"A little buzz never hurt anyone," The commander replied, eyes glimmering with mischief. She just hoped this was the extent of things going to 'normal'. She'd been thinking how they'd deal with it if her friends started to become aliens. While Liara being an Asari would be nice for Shepard, it would lead to other problems with society at large. She was most worried about the ones that operate on completely different food sources, like Tali and Garrus. She couldn't remember if Krogan had the same problem.
Honestly. Liara rolled her eyes. “What am I meant to do with you?” She was just lucky that she found outright crazy attractive in a woman... hey, it wasn’t all down to the stuff that went on in her dreams!
Even if the recurring sexytime dream didn’t hurt things.
"Marry me and give me lots of little blue babies," Shepard quipped, that mischievous glint still in her eyes. She stretched, letting the muscles in her back pop with a groan. She knew Liara wouldn't be able to touch her, so she made an extra show of it.
"Are you hungry? I could fix you something so you don't blow up the kitchen."
“I agreed to the first part of that. Not so sure about those little blue babies yet...” it wouldn’t exactly be as easy as the Asari had it, considering Liara was still pretty much entirely human. The sudden biotics didn’t change that. “Still. I’m open to being persuaded.”
That was actually a slightly tempting offer. “If you promise not to accidentally set anything on fire, I suppose?”
Shepard smirked, "I'm a better cook than driver."
Which didn't really say much, to be 100% honest. She got to her feet, swallowing a feeling of pain at the thought she might never get those babies. Or even one. It might have been said in jest, but it become something like a light at the end of the tunnel. Something to look forward to.
"Stay put. I'll even feed you."
Considering Shepard was possibly the most terrifying driver in all the known universe, that didn’t do much to reassure Liara at all. It was only that annoying little fact that she’d likely blow up half the kitchen that stopped her from trying to intervene.
“You really don’t have to... I’d hate to keep shocking you.” Even if she had a sneaking suspicion that the other woman was starting to like it.
"Oh no. I'm going to feed you, and you're going to lay back and enjoy it."
How could Shepard make something that innocent sound vaguely like an innuendo? Liara sighed, shaking her head. “Alright. You win, for now.”
Shepard would just have to collect her prize when Liara wasn’t trying to shock her. It would be worth it.
