Who: Izzy and Katou When: Early July plot Where: Around town What: Fighting Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Izzy was kind of loving this demon influx, so far she’d gone on an awesome double date with her brother and their respective partners and she and Clary had got some ass kicking in too. Now it was Katou’s turn to join her. Luckily they were steering clear of BB2 but the original Baxter’s location seemed to be popular with all these things so she’d told him to meet her there.
She’d just used her whip to behead a demon when she saw Katou approaching, “Hey you, everything okay?” she asked because when there were demons around it was an important question.
Katou was never in a better mood than when he had a whole lot of baddies to kill. He couldn’t really get into fights anymore. He finished them, but he sure as hell didn’t start them. His powers, his skills, and even his arm skewed the results too far in his favour for it to be any fun. And it wasn’t really fair neither.
He was smiling ear to ear as he brought his sword down on the head of one of the demons, cleaving the creature nearly in two. “More than okay!” Katou called to her, making his way a little closer. “I’d ask how you’re doing but since I’m pretty sure I just saw you behead a demon with that thing, I’m gonna assume you’re alright.”
“I’m great, this is the kind of thing I’ve been training for” Izzy said, she was probably enjoying this way more than she should be but it wasn’t often they got to actually do some damage to these kinds of things.
“Nice work with the sword” she added, “I think we’re going to make a most lethal team”
“Of course we are,” Katou said, winking at her just before he swung around and decapitated one of the demons that was sneaking up behind him. “We didn’t do all that sparring together just so we could not kill demons.”
“Exactly” Izzy said throwing out her whip once more while also using her high heeled foot to kick another demon in the head. “We need to be in the action while we have the chance”
“No doubt. Is it weird to miss killing shit when there ain’t nothing around to kill?” Katou asked, running through the last demon around them. He pulled out the sword, lit himself a cigarette, and then leaned back, hands on his hips, to stretch out his back. He doubted the reprieve would last long, but he had to admit it was kind of nice to have a break.
“These things are fucking simple. You’d think we’d be able to get a challenge once in a while.”
“If it is then we can be weird together” Izzy said, watching as he took out the last of the current demons. “Be careful what you wish for” she teased, she looked around, “There must be bigger things to tackle somewhere, how about we do a little hunting?”
“I guess it would suck if Godzilla came crashing through,” Katou said, rubbing the back of his head. He really should know better than to wish for the OC to throw them bigger and badder baddies. “It’d be so much easier if they just came to us, but yeah. I’m down for some demon hunting. You’ll have to lead the way though, I don’t normally go looking for shit.”
“Godzilla might be a bit much” she grinned at him before nodding, “Come on, it won’t take too long the way they’re popping up all over the place” It wasn’t that Izzy was used to looking for things, at least not here, but in her dreams she definitely was. Apparently it was helping now. “So how have you been? Aside from demon killing”
“Been pretty good,” Katou said, positioning his sword so the blade was resting on his metal shoulder as he walked. “Enjoying the fact that I ain’t gonna have to go back for yet another year of school in the fall. That job you mentioned still open, by the way?”
“Always” she told him, “Anytime you wanna come by you can and we’ll give it a go and see how you get on” Izzy thought Katou would be much better than he seemed to think he would be and she would always try to help her friends out.
Katou wasn’t so sure he’d do very well, but he felt better with Izzy around. At the very least she was less likely to fire him on the spot. “Cool. I’ll definitely give it a shot sometime,” Katou said, glancing around. He tried to feel for the aura of some demons to help point him in a direction, though he couldn’t feel much. Besides, even if he could, there was no guarantee that the wouldn’t wander right into a swarm of the same boring low-level demons they’d just finished with.
“So, you’re a demon hunter in your dreams, ain’tcha? How exactly do you go about that?”
“You’ll always be welcome, I’ll show you the ropes” Izzy told him easily, she knew he was worried he wouldn’t be okay but she had total faith in him. They’d find the perfect role for him to do.
“Well shadowhunters kind of just get called when there are problems to deal with or track down demons when they’ve done something wrong” she said, “Not quite like this though. We have help in the form of tracking spells and things”
Katou burst out laughing. “So what, you’re like, the demon police force? Tracking down demon criminals and letting the law abiding citizens of hell alone?” Actually, some of Katou’s best friends in his dreams had been demons, and a lot of them had seemed more moral than most of the angels Katou’d had the displeasure of meeting. It still didn’t make the idea of Demon Police any less hilarious.
“Kind of I guess” she shrugged, “We protect the mundanes, they don’t know about us or warlocks, vampires, demons, any of it” she explained, “It’s our divine right and job”
“Mundanes, huh,” Katou said, grinning. “Sounds like what we oughtta be calling all them non-dreamers.” Though, how crappy would it be if someone was wandering around calling Katou mundane? He was anything but.
Izzy laughed, “It’s pretty insulting but we use it all the time. We tend to be a little arrogant in the dreams, rightly so with what we do. We kind of need to be super confident otherwise we’ll get hurt”
“Hey man, ain’t nothing wrong with being a little arrogant,” Katou said, grinning. He’d been called worse himself. He opened his mouth to say a little more, when he felt a familiar eerie feeling. An aura of some sort, though it took him a moment to recognize it from his early dreams.
He wheeled around quickly, just in time to see the ghoul rising behind him. It was tall, nearly twice as tall as him, and he was caught off guard enough that he didn’t have much time to react before it gathered him up into its arms and lifted him off the ground.
Izzy smiled, “You’re right there is definitely nothing wrong with a little healthy arrogance”
Her own reaction was slow but once the creature lifted Katou up she threw her whip out at it’s arms to try and make it let him go, “Well we wanted bigger” she said, pulling her sword from her back, it’s blade lighting up as she wielded it.
The ghoul dropped Katou when hit by the whip, and Katou managed to twist his body in the air so he managed to land on his feet and metal hand. First Anna of all people had had to rescue him from draconians, and now Izzy? He was not on his A game this week.
Not that he wasn’t confident that he could have broken himself free once the shock had worn off. “Is that a fucking lightsaber?” Katou asked, catching sight of the blade from the corner of his eye. “Why is everyone getting lightsabers except for me?” Then, still from the squatting position, he launched himself at the ghoul, smoothly cutting off the arm that was now reaching for Izzy.
“Aim for the head or the heart,” Katou yelled over his shoulder at her.
“Not a lightsaber, a sereph blade, but the principle is the same” she told him before nodding and taking a run at the demon she jumped onto it and made her way to the top taking a swipe at it’s head with her blade “Keep it busy, it has a thick head”
Sereph blade, light saber. Same thing in Katou’s eyes. It was a cool glowing sword, and that was what was important. Not that he would have traded Shiranui for anything.
“Got it,” Katou said. The thing didn’t have legs, just a long body that seemed to sprout directly from the ground. But that didn’t mean that Katou couldn’t hack away at it’s torso, jumping out of range of its remaining arm whenever it tried to swipe at him and then rushing back in as soon as it left an opening.
While Katou occupied it’s arms Izzy went to work on it’s head, hacking at it to try and get to the section holding it’s head on it’s body. It was definitely an unusual demon, nothing like she’d ever seen before. Eventually it’s movements slowed as between them they got to it’s chest and head.
As Izzy finally managed to pierce the creature, it let out what sounded like a cry of torment and despair, and then seemed to dissolve, briefly surrounding her in the wisps of its soul before completely disappearing into the night. Katou let out a sigh of relief, and then reached for his cigarettes. “Well, that was fun,” he said, shooting her a grin.
“That was incredible. I’d never seen a demon like that before” she said, sheathing the blade and letting her whip coil back around her arm, “It was one of yours then? Pretty intense”
Katou nodded, relieved that was over but a little upset at how much trouble it had given them. Though, maybe he should have just been glad that neither of them had been hurt. “Yeah,” he said, frowning at the spot where the ghoul had been. “Ghouls. It’s what happens when an angel loses their wings.” Setsuna had been able to calm their souls, let it pass on peacefully, but Katou neither has that skill nor did he care that much.
“You okay?” Izzy asked watching him closely as he frowned at the space where the monster had been, she wasn’t sure how hard they were supposed to be to take out but they’d done pretty well she’d thought.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just embarrassed that I had to be rescued by a girl,” he teased, more because he knew it would annoy Izzy than any real disdain for her gender. “C’mon, let's go see what else is out there.”
Izzy laughed and pushed him playfully, knowing he was winding her up, “Alright, let’s see how you do without me next time” she said before they moved to see what else they could find.
