Mary made a slight “Hmm” sound as she brought a finger up to her lip to think. “I suppose it could be because of that curse I put on the new girl at work.” She chuckled slightly at her obvious joke. Mary might have had a spiteful streak in her, one that came out when she felt she had been unfairly wronged, but for all her days, she’d never done a single thing to hurt anyone else. Even if this line, which was advancing one step forward, was a punishment, Mary couldn’t think of what she might have done to deserve it.
On the other hand, she supposed that her wasted half-hour was being rewarded by this pleasant exchange and the appealing company. At least now, when she lied and told Janine that she’d met someone new, it wouldn’t entirely be a lie. “Absolutely delicious,” Mary replied as she inclined her head toward her former table with the large empty cup. “I grab my morning coffee here, as well. Honestly, I planned to meet a date here, just so I could get another taste during the day.”
