It’d been an interesting and long night, and an even more interesting morning. At least the hangover feelings were fading, and Anna was very much looking forward to having Hanna over. They could catch up--she wanted to hear all about the other Caleb, and the other monstrosities that’d happened over the last week. And to make sure that Hanna was okay.
Anna made sure she had all the necessary components of ice cream sundaes for when Hanna came over: ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate fudge, nuts, cherries… she had them all arranged carefully in a ‘make your own sundae bar’ and then changed into yoga pants so she’d be more comfortable. She made a round of the house to tidy and pick up a few things, wanting to make the place presentable for her friend--though, it was already pretty organized.
Well, it wasn’t as if the dreams had only just started up. They’d basically started up soon after she had finished with her finals. But the latest round, the Dollhouse and not knowing what was going to happen next? That was enough to give her a headache. Add in trying to decide if she was going to go to New York or not for school…. So much for summer being about relaxing.
At least the latest round of insanity was over. And all she could do was hope that the original Caleb was back in Ravenswood with Miranda. Even if she knew that the two were destined to die because of a stupid curse based on a pact.
But catching up with Anna would be good, even if she would have to keep tabs on her calorie intake after. But she knew how to handle these splurges. So having chosen which two piece she wanted to wear, then putting on a wrap dress for the drive over, Hanna got to her destination, parked and then knocked.
Anna bounced to the door, grinning brightly, and pulled it open. “Hanna!” She said, and flung her arms around the other girl. This was quite the happy greeting for someone who’d woken up so hungover this morning. It was probably in her eyes, too--bags under them, red lines through the whites. But now was for happiness, ice cream, and catching up with a friend. Not for thinking about hangovers.
“How are you?” She asked, stepping back and aside so Hanna could come in. “I mean, after the craziness. What was it like having two Calebs around??”
Hangovers were the worst. Waking up with hangovers even though you hadn’t had anything to drink the night before? Even worse. Thanks dreams, thanks. But it also was something she knew better than to comment on. Besides if Anna had wanted to get drunk the night before, that wasn’t her business. It was summer after all.
“I’m okay.” Mostly. Well, she did lie as easy as breathing thanks to the dreams. Stepping in, the blonde stretched before shrugging at the comment about two Calebs. “Really weird. I thought he had lost a bet with Tony when I first ran into the him from the past. Then we were just trying to make sure he was okay which… really hard to do given everything going on. What about you?”
“Oh, I totally killed this like, dragon lizard monster that was attacking me and my friend Katou.” Anna grinned brightly. “I had my sword and just like… chi-tawww!” She made a swinging motion with her spoon as if she was wielding a sword. Then she laughed. “And the bastard totally dropped me on my ass, and now I have this huge bruise.” She motioned to her hip. It was a big bruise, too. Hanna was sure to see it when they slipped into the hot tub.
“Wow. Sounds impressive.” Anna had a sword? Why did Anna have a sword? Well okay, so Hanna had gotten the gun that had shot Wilden…. So anything was possible in terms of showing up. It was just odd that Anna would have a sword. “And ugh, bruises are the worst. Especially in summer.” Even if it was on the hip. It would limit beach time if Anna wanted to avoid questions until it healed up. Hot tubs with friends who knew the place, not so hard to explain. But still.
Anna had worked in a fencing school when she was dating Hans. That was over a year ago, but she still had a couple of things from that time. A wooden training sword, and a metal one. Even though she wasn’t great with them. And it was a bit of a shock that she could do such good work with a fencing foil, but eh.
“Right?” Anna said, then she took another bite of her sundae. “It’s a bit embarrassing. The bruise. I mean, it’s huge and dark. It’ll fade, though, I suppose?”
Hanna nodded some at the question. She had needed to look up remedies for dealing with bruises thanks to the dreams and the constant danger from them. “Definitely. There are ways to make them go away faster, too. Icing it, warm compress after day two, elevating it if you can, different home remedies…”
Sometimes it felt like she was channeling Spencer, but that was more because even as she worked hard at school and was no longer presenting as the ditzy blonde because she had felt it would make her more accepted, she still fell into that role, and she didn’t always have faith in herself even though she was smarter than most people realised.
Hanna was smart. Anna knew that. She could tell that her friend was smarter than she sometimes let show. And Anna appreciated it. Especially in times like these. “Ice and warm compress? I can do that. I can sit in the hot tub! Will that help? I mean, even if it won’t, I’ll still do it.” She grinned, then took another bite from her sundae. Anna had a few less self-esteem issues since Memorial Day. She’d been a bit happier, a bit more… Anna.
“Well, it usually works best right after. First few days, you ice the bruise for fifteen minutes every few hours. On the second day you use the hot compress. Also massaging the bruise or direct sunlight for ten to fifteen minutes during the day helps. Then there’s vinegar and warm water mix, applying or having vitamin C, eating pineapples or papayas...or rubbing crushed parsley on the bruise, which, no idea why but it can help just like how apparently rubbing a banana peel can help…”
Shrugging, Hanna looked around some. It was good that Anna seemed more herself. Then again, she knew all too well about self esteem issues and just sort of...went with it. She was frustrated because of the dreams, but that was pretty normal when they would pop up as they seriously made no sense whatsoever. Being kidnapped by A and stuck in the Dollhouse though… it had her on edge.
“Wow. You seem like a treasure trove of information.” Anna said, giving a little laugh. “Well, I’ve got banana peels from the sundaes, so I can start with those. And … pineapple? Can it come from a can or does it need to be fresh?” It was nice of Hanna to share her tips with Anna. The redhead took a couple more bites, then set the dish aside. “Should we go get in the hot tub?”
“Comes in handy.” That was an understatement, but when it came to the dreams, Hanna did tend to be understated on the things that happened in them. She would rather just move on and ignore them. Even with the latest one and being trapped and with seeming no way to get out thanks to the electric fence. “I never tried the pineapple or papaya one, but I think fresh because of some sort of enzyme within them that helps break down the bruising.” Maybe canned ones would also work but it seemed more likely fresh was the better way to go. But there were other things to do, such as much needed relaxing in the tub. “Most definitely.”
Anna nodded. Fresh she could do. It was amazing what a girl could get at a supermarket nowadays. She made a mental note to pick up papaya and pineapple. Then brightened considerably when Hanna said they could get in the tub. “Great! I’ll go grab towels and meet you out there!” She bounced from her chair, then danced down the hallway and disappeared into her bedroom.
Supermarkets were pretty great like that. Goodness knew even with her own issues, she enjoyed the supermarket and finding things to make that fit her diet.
“Sounds good!” Shaking her head some at Anna’s hyperness, Hanna headed out to the hot tub, taking off the wrap around dress and placed it on a deck chair before getting into the hot tub. Yes, just what she needed after all that stress.
