After Sharon and Veronica had been “kidnapped”... (Honestly, they’d been taken by some bad guys for a couple of hours, and had fought their way out, so it wasn’t really “kidnapping”... was it?) Sharon was forced to take a few days off of work and see the Agency’s counselor. He’d insisted that she take it easy for a little bit, worried that her experience might manifest in PTSD or something. At least, that’s how Sharon interpreted it. So she was filling her time the best she could--catching up with old friends.
She’d sent a text to Athos to come meet her for lunch. And she could pester him with questions about what he wanted for his birthday.
Sharon picked out a great, little cafe, ordered them each some sandwiches and salad, then settled Viv into the high chair with some Cheerios. While they waited for Athos, Sharon pulled out her phone to check Valarnet.
While it had been the right choice for Athos and D’Artagnan to leave the Agency it was still sad to leave their friends behind. So catching up with Sharon and seeing little Viv was important to him, especially with everything that had gone on lately. Kidnapping, even for a short time, was a pretty big event after all.
“Sharon” he said as he arrived and spotted her, “I’m sorry if I kept you waiting” he apologised giving her a hug and pressing a kiss to the top of Viv’s head.
Athos’ arrival made Sharon look up from her phone. She broke into a bright smile and wrapped her arms around her friend in a warm hug. Then released him so he could greet the baby. “Not at all! We only just got here. I ordered some sandwiches, I hope you don’t mind. This place takes forever to get food on the table, but it’s totally worth the wait.” She grinned as she sat back down and then put her phone away.
“How are you? It’s been ages!” Sharon said, lifting her water glass for a sip.
“I don’t mind at all” Athos said, he was an easy kind of guy and he trusted Sharon. After all they’d grabbed lunch for each other often enough when they all worked in the office together.
“I’m good, D’Artagnan and I seem to have a steady stream of business so we’re doing something right” he smiled, “How are you? Everything settling back to normal now?” he asked with concern.
“That’s wonderful! I’m so glad that the change in vocation is working for you.” Sharon slipped back into her chair and poured some more cheerios onto the tray for Viv. The baby wasn’t really interested in their conversation. She had a sippy cup and her cheerios, so she was totally chill. Sharon had put a bow in what little hair she had on her head.
“Yes,” Sharon added, embarrassed. “I don’t know what happened there, honestly. Veronica and I must have both had an off night. It was supposed to be a routine surveillance.”
“Thank you I’m pretty relieved too” he said, because it had been a fairly daring move to strike out on their own but so far it seemed to be good.
“You need to be on your guard, even in routine situations” Athos reminded her but not unkindly, “Luckily you were both okay this time”
“I know.” Sharon had been kicking herself ever since the incident. Thankfully, she and Veronica got out safely, Leon and Logan got out with few injuries, and they’d apprehended all of the bad guys. So… everything was okay? Mostly? “It’s really opened my eyes to how slack I’ve let my training become.”
“That can happen sometimes. That's why I make sure D’Artagnan and I train regularly. I've set up a pretty good area in the garage, you should come by sometime. Check it out. You're welcome to use it anytime” he offered. It was basic but did the job. Three-headed a sparring area as well as a small shooting range.
“That sounds great, actually.” Training in an unfamiliar environment might be just the ticket. When she used the facilities at The Agency or went to her usual haunts, she sometimes found her mind wandering. It was easy when everything was so familiar. But going somewhere new? “Maybe I’ll have to schedule a training session with Athos-the-Trainer.” She teased, grinning.
“I’ll happily put you through your paces, I’m sure you’ll be a lot better than the recruits I used to handle” he told her, most of the wannabe CIA agents had been okay but there was always that odd one or two who decided they were better than everybody else. Including him. He had to admit there was some satisfaction to showing them how wrong they were.
Training with Athos would be wonderful. It sounded just like what she needed to keep her on track and finally ditch the last of that baby weight. “That sounds wonderful.” Sharon was smiling warmly as the waitress came over and set plates of sandwiches and salad in front of them on the table. Sharon sat up a little and lifted her fork. “Dig in! I hope you like it. This is my favorite.”
“Great then consider me your new trainer” he told her with a smile, it would be good to train with someone different. He loved D’Artagnan but they knew each other’s styles too well and got a little distracted sometimes. “It looks lovely so I am sure I will enjoy it” he said before he took a sandwich.
