Kate was mid-way through her shift at the club, wiping down the counters and organizing things. She liked to keep a clean ship, it meant that she’d have less work to do later. Less cleaning at the end of the shift when it was time to pack up and go home. Efficiency was good. It made her bosses happy, too.
She finished wiping down the counter and glanced up and around the club. There were a fair amount of people there, but it wasn’t packed. It meant she could give really good, individual service to all her customers instead of having to yell over the bustle and crowd.
Liv was still getting used to this whole zombie thing. Sure her dreams had somewhat prepared her, mostly just by showing her what to expect. It was a whole different thing actually experiencing it. She was currently on a stripper’s brain and for some reason all she wanted to do was go to a strip club. Not to mention how she was dressing and how forward she had become. Part of her knew just how strange it was, but it also felt completely natural.
She had resisted the urge to go to a strip club so far, but tonight she found herself in a burlesque club. Which wasn’t exactly the same, Liv didn’t think there would be any lap dances happening at this place and the part of her that was still Liv was happy about that. Dressed in a tight miniskirt. and a v-neck blouse that was just a little too low, Liv walked into the club heading straight for the bar. She was going to need some drinks for this. “I’ll take an Amaretto Stone Sour,” Liv told the bartender.
Kate turned to head down the bar and discuss life with the newcomer:a platinum blonde who--wait. Wait. A bright smile broke out across Kate’s lips when she recognized Liv right away. It was hard not to with that hair and skin. The brunette wandered over and grabbed a glass from under the bar to start mixing the drink.
“Well, look what the cat dragged in,” she teased. It was good to reconnect with one of her sorority sisters, even though they were part of chapters two states apart. Kate liked Liv, too, so she was looking forward to having the woman at her bar for a little while. “How’s it going?”
“This is where you work?” Liv replied not hiding the surprise from her voice. But she did in fact recognize the woman. She was Clint’s girlfriend. It occurred to Liv that she had been a bit rude at that encounter. On her phone most of the time. It wasn’t like she was going to explain the brain she was on, but she’d tried to make up for it tonight. Leave a good tip or something. “Doesn’t seem like the worst job in the world,” she added with a bit of a smile. “This place is nice.”
“Yeah, it’s a pretty good job,” Kate said, putting the finishing touches on the drink before setting it on the bar in front of Liv. The medical examiner. They’d only met the once before, and she’d seemed distracted. But not bad. After all, Liv had stitched up Clint. And any friend of Clint’s? Well, that didn’t necessarily apply. But Liv seemed okay, anyway. “Amaretto Stone Sour.”
“Thanks,” Liv said accepting the drink. However before taking a sip she fetched some hot sauce out of her purse putting a few drops in the drink. Yes there were drinks she could order already spicy but for some reason she was craving an Amaretto Stone Sour tonight. Must have been the victim’s favorite drink or something. “Do you ever dance?” Liv asked her eyes shining with excitement as she watched the burlesque dancers on stage.
Kate actually laughed at the question. She couldn’t help it. It was one thing to hear that sort of thing from the lecherous guys who came to the bar and hit on her nonstop, but to hear it from Liv? “No.” She said, shaking her head. “You should see me dance. I’ve got two left feet. No, those ladies are artists. I’m nowhere near that quality.”
Liv’s eyes were focussed on the dancers as she sipped her drink. “They are pretty amazing,” she agreed. Liv honestly didn’t have a lot of experience with going to places like this, and zero experience with burlesque dancing but she could definitely see the appeal. “How’s Clint?” she asked her eyes still glued to the stage. “No infections?” she was referring to his stitched up wound of course.
“So far so good. He heals really quick. It’s no superpower, but it’s something. I guess it comes with practice.” Kate said, wiping down the counter now that Liv had a drink in front of her. She finished up and leaned back against the sink. “Thanks for taking care of him,” she added. “I’ve done it in my Dreams, but it was nice to not have to worry about it. I’m much better with blood and things there than I am here.”
Blood had never been much of an issue for Liv. And definitely not now. Hell she lived on brains these days. Blood was no big deal. But obviously when she was human it wasn’t either considering her line of work. “No problem. It’s better than him walking around with a bullet in his side or a huge gaping wound on his shoulder.”
“I hear you there.” Kate agreed. She much prefered Clint to be whole and fully functioning. Though, some of his Dreams were so fucked up that they left him slightly less than perfect, she was glad that he could recover physically, anyway.
A guy down the bar flagged Kate down, so she gave Liv one more smile. “Enjoy that drink.” She said, and moved down to help the other customer.
