WHO: Tony Stark.
WHAT: The Stark Expo dream, and Tony does some testing.
WHERE: Tony & Pepper's Condo.
WHEN: Very early Friday morning.
WARNING: Implications of extreme character sickness & death.
The drop, for all Pepper's complaining, had been a resounding success. If Tony Stark knew anything, it was how to work a crowd.
But while there were a lot of things that he apparently didn't know, as he pulled his pocket analyzer out. It was rising. He was going to have to find a replacement.
Fast.
Tony woke up slowly, not gasping awake, not afraid. Honestly, it made a lot of sense, now that the dreams crystallized the problem. His reactor was killing him. Slowly.
How had he not seen that coming?
Getting out of bed quietly, making sure Pepper stayed asleep, he went down to the shop. That wasn't uncommon; Tony was the King of Insomnialand and often went to go and check on his domain.
"Jarvis, we need to run some tests."
Two hours later, Tony stared at a bunch of holographic charts showing the projected trajectory for the disease. In a month, he'd have significantly impacted motor control. In two months, his immune and nervous system would be shutting down.
He might luck out and keep his kidneys until the end, but the liver would give out first.
All in all, maybe four months. When Tony had thought about staring down his mortality, he'd never thought it would be in the light of a console like this. He'd assumed he'd either go out in a blaze with his suit, or more recently being all old and gross after a long life with Pepper. But not like this.
Running a hand over his face, Tony closed his eyes tightly, trying to think of a plan. He'd have to have a plan. He could deal with the death angle a whole lot later.
He wasn't giving up. Not yet.
