WHO:Blossom & Caroline WHEN: This week WHERE: Baxter's Bakery WHAT: Blossom's powers get a little over excited in public; she needs coffee and chocolate. RATING/WARNINGS: None STATUS: Complete
Blossom had accepted the fact that soon, probably far too soon, she would develop her awesome crime fighting powers of awesome. She was not entirely prepared for them to happen as she sneezed. It made her just a little bit more dangerous than she’d actually expected, since she didn’t want to accidentally sneeze and blow up another fire hydrant. She was quickly escaping the scene there.
Somehow that led to Baxter’s Bakery. Maybe a coffee would help. Or it would just make her more jittery, and she’d end up shaking and probably send pretty pink lightning bolts into something else! Oh God she was going to need to quit coffee! That was the worst possible outcome ever!
When she got to the counter she just gave Caroline the most seriously desperate expression, “I need the biggest most chocolatey thing you have and something super soothing for frayed nerves.” Hopefully without the sneezing side effects.
Blossom’s entrance caught Caroline a bit off guard. Of course she caught the desperate look on the redhead’s face. And her order was even more telling that something was up. Yeah, it wasn’t unusual to want some chocolatey goodness, but a soothing food for frayed nerves? Something had to have happened.
“Milk chocolate melted truffle mocha and a blueberry scone coming right up,” Caroline replied giving Blossom a warm smile. She gave the order to one of her coworkers announced she was taking her ten and walked around the counter to Blossom. “Is everything okay?” she asked leading her to a table.
As a small bundle of nerves right then, Blossom didn’t even mind just what she’d just ordered at all, because she’d need to eat something and hopefully just one thing and not a million. She didn’t need to start comfort eating in the middle of the day. “Yes, it’s fine. Totally fine.” It definitely wasn’t.
Of course the moment she got to a table she started drumming her fingers on it in a nervous tic sort of manner, it wasn’t like Caroline didn’t know exactly what the dangers were with suddenly occurring powers from the dreams. Caroline got her heart stopped, fangs and a constant need for blood. All in all, if anyone understood aside from her sisters, it would be Caroline.
“I might’ve just shot pink lightning bolts at a fire hydrant though.” There was no maybe about it. She absolutely did.
That totally didn’t sound fine. “I’m going to guess it was an accident?” Caroline asked even though she was pretty sure she already knew the answer.
Even though Caroline was used to her abilities by now, and all that came with them she still remembered what it had been like to suddenly wake up completely changed. How overwhelming it had all been. Mostly the need for blood, but still her new powers took some getting used to as well. “Is this the first time it happened?”
“Never before.” Trust her to get her first super power out and about in the street and have it triggered by a sneeze. “Minding my own business, trying to figure out if I should bother Bubbles about a mini-shopping trip for some cute shorts I saw or just wait til the weekend, and instead, I sneeze and…” Blossom made a silly blowing up motion with her hand.
“I’m pretty sure people noticed the pink bolts too. Why’re they pink? God, we’re all so colour co-ordinated in the dreams. I don’t even mind that I’m pink, pink is cute, but why’re our powers that colour too?” It was probably a dead give away that no, the fire hydrant didn’t just blow up itself.
Of course Caroline perked up at the mention of a shopping trip. Although that wasn’t really the point of the conversation. She’d save the shopping topic for later. Maybe as a way to cheer Blossom up. For now.. “If it makes you feel any better this is Orange County. I’m sure people have seen weirder?”
And then she was going on about the pink. “I’d be the wrong person to ask,” Caroline replied trying not to laugh at the idea of pink lightening bolts. “Being a superhero sounds complicated.” Not quite as complicated as vampirism, but still colorful powers? Weird. Not that Caroline hadn’t seen something similar before with Regina. She always appeared in purple smoke though she didn’t think this was exactly the same.
Blossom just gave a long, drawn out sigh. It was true, Orange County probably allowed for a lot of weirdness just because of where it was. She could probably get away with damage to public property using the excuse that the OC was the one the caused her to make the damage too.
“Super complicated.” She’d have rather gotten the flight or strength first really, but apparently you didn’t get to choose the power you got. “Lightning bolts to start with wasn’t how I wanted to go, but I guess it’s good to know that I do get them.” And she was sure she could figure out how to use them with ease (she hoped).
Her truffle mocha and muffin turned up with flare and Blossom was ready to down the chocolate drink right there on the spot if it wasn’t piping hot. “Oh my god, this is perfect.”
“Maybe it’s best to start with the most difficult power first?” Although Caroline honestly had no idea if lightning was the most difficult. It sure sounded like it though, but then Caroline didn’t know what other powers Blossom was supposed to get. “What other powers are you expecting?”
Caroline beamed at Blossom’s comment. She knew what she was doing when it came to ordering things. Hopefully it was helping Blossom feel at least a little better.
Sipping away at her drink, Blossom tried to think about all the things she could do in the dreams, “Um...super strength, flying, ice breath, laser eye beams, oh I can sense danger sometimes too. Like I know when something bad is right about to happen? At least to me or my sisters.” They were really a little too powerful if Blossom was honest, but it wasn’t really like they could do anything about that. “I’m kind of looking forward to the flight, and the danger sense. But… I’m really worried about the other ones.”
She didn’t want to hurt anyone, and if her powers just suddenly materialised without the control for them she was a little wary of what might happen. Their powers were destructive enough in Townsville after all. “I guess I’m just worrying before it even happens.”
Caroline nodded as Blossom spoke. “I think that’s natural. To worry. I was too.” It was such a different experience. In her dreams she had been one of the only humans to not know about vampires and then she just was one. It was confusing and she had no idea what was happening to her. Here she had dreamt about being one for months before it happened. Had time to prepare and be terrified. But it really wasn’t so bad.
“For me, the first few weeks were rough. But once I got used to it it was pretty great. I don’t think I would go back to being human. It will be overwhelming probably, but I don’t think the dreams throw anything at us that we can’t handle.” She gave Blossom a reassuring smile. “I can’t comment on the flying, ice breath and laser beam eyes but super strength definitely comes in handy around here. And it’s not all that hard to control.”
It was sort of good to know that there were other people out there who all had these powers too. Who could do all these different things and still have mostly normal lives. At least she knew she could ask for help and not be labelled as crazy. “Bubbles got her super strength,” Bubbles got her animal communication too, which was neat really. “And Buttercup’s flying I think.” She was pretty sure she’d seen Butts levitating a few times while in bed, but that might be Blossom and her super early morning hallucinating too. Stranger things happened.
“I guess being able to blow stuff up is super handy, right?” Crazy things happened here all the time. It was good that she could help keep people safe and fight things. That was the point of super powers. Nibbling a little more on the muffin and more of the really great chocolate mocha and Blossom wasn’t feeling entirely horrific about the new developments. “I dunno how much of this is you and how much is the mocha, but I’m pretty sure this is officially my new pick-me-up.”
“Definitely handy.” Well once Blossom got control of it. Wouldn’t want her aiming for some random baddie and accidentally hitting someone else. “Maybe practice somewhere safe?” Caroline offered. She wasn’t going to dare suggest the accidentally hurting someone thing. Blossom was just starting to cheer up and Caroline didn’t want to upset her again. Besides it was probably a non issue anyway.
She couldn’t help but laugh at Blossom’s comment. “Oh it’s definitely me,” she said with a confident smile. “But the chocolate helps,” she added. “If you’re feeling better I should probably get back to work. Unfortunately I don’t get paid to talk to my friends all day,” although they did come to visit her a lot. “But if you need anything feel free to call.” She knew on some level what Blossom was going through. “And we definitely need to hang out ASAP.”
“Oh my gosh, yes, I’m sorry.” In her silly little mood she’d completely forgot that Caroline was working and Blossom was just super foolish in wandering in. “Yes, we should. We should go shopping.” Because Caroline was fun to shop with. “But go, go back to work, I’m so sorry.” Blossom figured that Caroline was probably busy and she was feeling better and pretty glad that Caroline had been there to begin with. But she could finish up her food and drink and head out feeling a little more settled.
