Who: Kate and Claire When: May [backdated] Where: Garage What: Random Encounter Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete when posted
Going to the garage wasn't something that Claire minded. There would be plenty of times when she'd stop by to drop off food for the boys, to see Dean, or wait on him to finish up before they headed home. The latter was actually what she was doing now, she was sitting in the waiting area back behind the desk and reading a magazine.
She was trying to keep her focus and not let her mind wander too much to her dreams. She didn't want the evening to be clouded by them. Honestly, there were days when she wished that she could just forget them, but unfortunately her mind was only becoming sharper especially with each new dream that she was having.
Claire glanced up as the bell above the door went off and she offered the young woman a smile.
Kate’s car was making strange noises, and the temperature gauge was acting wonky. Of course, this happened when she was nowhere near work or Clint or the place where she normally took her car. Though, she didn’t often take it places. It was one of those little, VW Bugs. Purple, of course. And she knew she had the same car in her Dreams, which was funny.
She pulled into the lot and climbed out of the thing, fully expecting to see smoke coming from under the hood. Well, the rear hood. The car had the engine in the back. She wandered into the office and broke into a tentative smile. “Hi. Can you help me?”
"Um," Claire looked like a deer caught in headlights for a moment until she realized exactly where she was seated at. Stupid. She was stupid. "I don't actually work here, but hang on, let me get one of the guys for you." Pushing back, Claire moved to stand up and walked over to the door that separated the main office from the actual garage. Opening up the door, she let them know that they had a customer before waiting to hear their response.
Turning back around, she let the door fall back shut and looked at the young woman. "One of them will be out here in a few." Moving back to her seat, she sat down. It was then that she caught sight of the purple VW, "That's a cute car. What's going on with it?"
“Oh, okay.” Kate said, and gave the woman a little smile. She wasn’t a fan of taking out her frustrations on random bystanders, so she tried to be as pleasant as possible. Though, with her nature and demeanor, ‘as pleasant as possible’ meant ‘cordial’ most of the time. “Thanks for your help.”
She turned to look at the car in the drive, and nodded, smiling even more warmly at it. “Yeah, it’s my baby. Something’s up with the temperature gauge. I don’t know what’s going on, really, I’m… I’m not really great with cars.”
"Oh you're welcome, sorry I can't be more helpful." Claire thought it might be in her best interest to learn how to write down appointments for the guys in the event that she was up here again when someone came in.
Claire's nose wrinkled slightly, and she shook her head. "I honestly don't know much about cars either. I do hope that they can figure out what's going on with her. " Claire honestly meant that, she hated to see a beauty like that not be out on the road.
“I’m sure someone here can help. I mean, that’s what they do, right?” Kate said, giving the other woman a little smirk. It’d be silly if she brought a car into a mechanic shop and they couldn’t help with it. Something out of Monty Python, really. Though, it would be just her luck, wouldn’t it?
“Should I just… hang out and wait?” It wasn’t like she was going to go driving off with the car acting the way it was. Scary stuff. Kate didn’t want the engine to explode, or whatever. She had enough of that kind of stuff in her Dreams.
"Fair enough." Hence the reason why Claire would never be able to work the front at the shop. It was bad enough that she put her foot in her mouth while at her own job, but it was worse if she accidentally sabotaged someone else's place of work.
"Yeah, that might be a good idea." Claire didn't know really what else to say on the matter, "How long have you had your car?" Claire asked, not with any real intention in mind, she was curious.
“Oh… I dunno. Five years? Six? I’ve had it since I moved to California for college, so… maybe even longer.” Kate didn’t want to do the math. It made her feel old. Then again, living with Clint made her feel young a lot, so it was a nice mix. “But it’s been a really good car this whole time.”
Claire nodded, she too had owned her car for several years at this point. It wasn't anything special, although it got her from point A to point B and back to point A. "I understand. I've had mine for around that long too." There would come a day when hers would probably die, although Dean was rather good at remembering when her car needed service. "Looks like they might be ready for you here in just a minute." She'd just glanced over at the door and saw one of them backing another car out of one of the bays. "I'll go ahead take your keys to give to them, and to the guys. Why don't you take a seat?" Claire held out her hand with a smile to the young woman.
“Oh, hey, thanks.” Kate said, smiling. “It was nice talking to you,” she passed her keys over, then grabbed a clipboard from the desk. There was a form on there she figured she could fill out to pass the time until they were ready to talk to her about her car. Then she took a seat to fill it out.
