WHO:Blossom & Bubbles WHEN: Late May/Early June WHERE: The Utonium Family House WHAT: Early morning issues with superstrength and a bedroom door. RATING/WARNINGS: None STATUS: Complete
Bubbles was tired. She’d stayed up too late studying for a final that she had this afternoon and so she hadn’t gotten enough sleep. She was going to need coffee, but first she was going to shower. Having super strength wasn’t in the forefront of her mind when she moved to open the door, but it was on her mind very quickly when she heard the sound of wood splintering and looked up at door in her hand before keeping it from falling over by pulling it into the room and propping it against the wall.
Carefully she crept over to find Blossom and shook her awake. “Blossom, I need help. I think I broke the door.”
“Jus’ leave it on the stand.” Blossom and mornings were not great things. Sure, she could function after a minute or two, preferably after about fifteen minutes in a shower, but more and more recently she was starting to really cherish every moment of sleep. Too much school, not enough sleep, weird dreams to boot.
So getting prodded away by her sister before her alarm? Not overly awesome. “Bubs, what is it?” She vaguely thought there was something about a door. But that was unlikely, right? Bubbles knew how doors worked.
Bubbles pouted at Blossom's first words. Leave what on the stand? WHAT WAS SHE TALKING ABOUT? She'd just broken the door. Broken the door. She wanted to shake her a little more, but then Blossom started talking again and she frowned at her hands. "I broke the door," she said again, a hint of frustration to her voice. “I forgot that I was stronger than I was before and I broke it and I need to fix it before the Professor finds ouuut!" Yes, that was a bit of a whine at the end. She was going to be in so much trouble.
Okay, so Bubbles wasn’t letting go of whatever it was she was… “The door? Why’d you--” Oh right the strength, Bubbles had gotten one (more) of her super powers, and… “Jeez Bubbles. This early?” Pulling herself up, hair in every which direction, Blossom had to start rubbing the sleep from her eyes to try and get herself a little awake. “Okay, I’m up. I’m up.”
She was going to miss that extra thirty minutes later but she was up. “Did you take it right off the wall or just the hinges? Bubbles I’m not a carpenter.” Of course, explaining things to the Professor would be a bit troublesome, since they hadn’t actually told him yet that they were going to start getting super powers and possibly destroy his house.
Bubbles felt a sense of relief when Blossom started to get up. "I didn't mean to. I just opened it and it happened." Her frustration bled into her voice as she talked, mixed in with the concern. She didn't want to get in trouble. She just didn't know who else to bother. She'd get Buttercup if she had to, but she didn't want to run the risk of being hit for waking her sister up. Blossom didn't hit people, which was why she went to Blossom.
She frowned a little at Blossom's question. "Um. It came off the hinges but I think the hinges got pulled a little too much?" She was going to be in so much trouble. Maybe she could beg Stefan to come fix things better after this was fixed, but she just wanted to have the door shut so she could appear like things were okay. "I'll ask Stefan if he can fix it later, okay? I just don't want him to knoooow."
Hinges Blossom could do, one of them could hold the door, the other could fix the hinges, they’d just leave it open for now and if Stefan fixed it better they’d be okay. “Okay, okay, um...we’ll need some screws and tools. Um, garage?” Did the Professor keeps tools around? She expected that they’d find them somewhere.
Hopefully it would stick together okay. “I’ll go find some, just… Prop the door up?” An easy fix would be nice. Blossom just gave Bubbles a quick squeeze at the arm before slipping off, ignoring her cold feet as she hunted around quietly for some stuff to fix it up. They were at least able to do things like this themselves, rather than needing a man to do it, else they’d just need to tell the Professor what was going on.
Tools in hand, Blossom plopped her way back, pushing her sleep disheveled hair from her face and smiling softly at her younger sister. “We might need to tell him at some point you know.” Like when the three of them were super powered, with blasting vision and flight and all that. It might get hard to hide.
Bubbles had no idea where there were tools. She'd never had to use them before. She'd never broken anything that needed fixing. Or...at least nothing that really needed to be fixed and involved tools. Plus, if she had, the Professor probably would have fixed it. She let out a sigh, pouting slightly as she moved to get the door and hold it up. She was very careful this time, making a point not to cause any more destruction. She was going to have to be careful all the time. Which was going to be a pain. She wondered how Stefan did it without breaking things.
There was a hint of concern in her expression as she heard Blossom mention talking to the Professor. She knew her sister was right. They would need to tell him eventually. Especially since there was a possibility of more damage than just pulling a door off the hinges. Laser beam eyes would definitely offer up some sort of danger. "Do you think he's going to believe us?" There was a pause before she said, "Well, I guess it would be easy to prove it once we start showing our powers more." It made her frown a little. "I hope he'll be okay with it."
The Professor was a man of science. His three daughters explaining that they had these dreams where they were superheroes would probably not go down exceptionally well to begin with, but with science came the burden of proof, and when a fact was proven through experimentation, ie, one of them demonstrating said powers, then really, there wasn’t much choice but to accept things. Blossom highly doubted that the Professor wouldn’t take it reasonably well though.
“I’m sure if we’re articulate and make our points, he’ll take it in and rationalise it. Probably tell us we’ve watched too much television until we can show him that we’re not cuckoo for coco puffs, and then we’ll deal with it.” Reattaching the hinges at the wall was a little tricky, since the screws had yanked right off, but Blossom was able to line everything up to start screwing them back in, thankful that Bubbles had a good hold on the door.
“I don’t think he’ll get mad at us Bubs, it’s not like we meant to.” And they were exceptionally responsible girls.
Bubbles didn't want to upset the Professor, but then she guessed that Blossom was right. He'd only ever really gotten upset with them when they did something bad. They hadn't done anything bad this time. It wasn't even their fault that they'd gotten these powers. It didn't help her be less worried that he might not believe them, though. This wasn't very scientific, was it?
She was relieved, though, that the door seemed to go back on easily enough. Plus, the door wasn't even that heavy. But then she'd been five and lifting up cars like it was nothing in the dreams, so she guessed that wasn't that surprising. "I hope we don't do anything that will accidentally destroy the house. Even if we don't mean to." She paused, thinking about something before she asked, "Do you ever think about how many times we've crashed through our school ceiling or the window? I wonder how much money they've had to use to fix that."
It was a constant worry. Blossom hadn’t thought of how potentially destructive the super strength might be, since she’d been more worried about her optic blasts destroying the house one morning. But it was entirely possible now that she’d just rip things apart without thinking now, wasn’t it? She was half dreading and half looking forward to these powers now.
“Between crashing through walls, throwing bad guys into buildings and all the property damage, I’m surprised the citizens of Townsville still like us.” But then, did anything in Townsville make sense. “You’d think they’d get like a sunroof that opened or something, or that we’d be told to use a door.” But it was like a really weird world anyway. Tightening up the last hinge, Blossom stood up to make sure the door was back on straight. “Then again, you’d think people would stop committing crimes in Townsville since we stop them all the time.”
Bubbles herself hadn't been all that concerned about the destruction before she started accidentally destroying things herself. She didn't want to hurt an animal while she was trying to help it. That was why she'd been extra careful at work and at school. She didn't want to do something that would endanger them.
"Yeah. It is sort of questionable. You'd think they would really dislike us." She frowned a little as she thought about it. They'd caused a lot of destruction. "I wonder how they fix everything so quickly. I guess they don't have to make sense, but it's still curious." When Blossom finished fixing the door, Bubbles was glad to see it looked mostly normal. "Well, I don't think villains care about those things. Or maybe they do, but they just think they can beat us each time?" “Well, we are five.” They were five, they were three five year old little girls who miraculously appeared one day with super powers and started fighting crime. “I don’t think they can stay mad when we’re that cute.” Because they were damn adorable, Bubbles’ especially.
But it was true, regardless of the damage, the whole city seemed to just be fine the next day. It was unusual, but hey, the whole thing was a little bit weird, wasn’t it. “I wonder if we’ll ever find out.” She also wondered if they’d ever grow up. She seemed to be five for a long time. “But I guess they just like that we’re super powered kids that save the day from evil people and monkeys.”
Mojo Jojo would never make sense to her.
Bubbles nodded. They were five. Maybe that was why people didn't get angry with them all the time. It was surprising that they hadn't tried to teach them how to get around it without destroying things. At least without flying through the ceiling. The city was another matter. You couldn't really account for the people you were fighting. They weren't very good at not being destructive.
"I think I'd like people if they saved the day from evil people and monkeys." Bubbles also didn't understand Mojo, but she was more afraid of Him than she was Mojo. Mojo was just a bully. Him had manipulated her through Octi. It was awful. "I guess it would depend, though. If they hurt someone I cared about, I might not like them." Bubbles really hoped they didn't hurt anyone accidentally. That would be awful.
It probably wasn’t the sort of thing people thought about at the time. But looking back, afterwards, it was probably a pretty serious thing. Because they just got so into the battles that falling buildings and smashed cars, they didn’t register the same. “I suppose, yeah.” Accidentally hurting someone when you were trying to protect people, that was the big scary, wasn’t it.
“But… Have you ever noticed how no one ever seems to really get hurt in our dreams?” It was like, it would go so far, and maybe people would get bruised and busted, but laser vision should melt people, right? But that never happened. “I think we need to be more careful about that in real life than we do in the dreams.” Since they couldn’t really change the dreams, but it didn’t look like they were going to be accidentally squishing anyone with a building anyway.
Blossom was right. They did need to be more careful about things in real life. The dreams...well, they were already cartoons. "I did notice that, yes. Laser beams should melt people. And the supersonic scream should probably really hurt people, too. Like make people deaf or something." She frowned. In the dreams, the powers seemed like a lot of fun, but in the real world, things were different. The only thing she had that wouldn't be more terrible in the real world was talking to animals. Well, maybe flying wouldn't be too bad as long as she didn't fly into anything. Talking to animals was definitely the safest power she had.
"It's a lot scarier to have superpowers in real life than it is in the dreams. It seemed like more fun before. Now it might end with us hurting someone if we're not careful. This isn't our dreams where everything is colorful and fun and happy...and we have a theme song. This is...well, different." It was real life.
It was a lot scarier, it was something they need to be very, very careful about. She didn’t think Buttercup was with the power getting yet, and Blossom was still waiting for her first, but Bubbles seemed to be coping okay so far. Aside from the odd door getting killed. “You know, I have this friend who said she can help with the power training thing. With figuring them out and stuff.”
She remembered Sharon mentioning how she worked somewhere that offered that, that Sharon could help when Blossom’s powers triggered here. Maybe she’d be able to help Bubbles too.
“I could ask, if you want?”
"Really? She knows how to do that?" Bubbles thought maybe being able to train with powers would be useful. She didn't know how to figure it out otherwise. Alone was an option, she supposed, but then she wasn't sure if she knew how exactly to train herself. The powers were simple to figure out in their dreams, but then they'd been born with them. Well, sort of born, but they'd come out with those powers and practiced them in the Professor's lab. They didn't have that now.
"It might be a good idea to learn how to use them. Just so we don't hurt anyone or ourselves."
Blossom thought that much too. And Sharon seemed like a really nice lady, Blossom was sure that they could ask questions and figure it all out, that Sharon could either direct them to someone who could help, or could help them herself. “I think it’s where she works, because like a lot of people around here just boom, got powers. It makes sense they’d need somewhere to figure it out.”
It wasn’t like they were the only people dealing with this. “I’ll ask her, okay? I’ll text her later.” But it was definitely time for Blossom to actually start getting ready now. “...you wanna take my final for me today? And I’ll just go back to bed?” If only it could be that easy.
"Okay!" Bubbles brightened a little. Since the door was fixed and everything seemed to be back together, it seemed the appropriate response to good news. If they needed to practice their powers, they'd probably have a place and someone who could help them with it. That had to mean something. "No. I don't think you want me to take your final. Not because I couldn't pass it, but I don't know any of what's on it." She laughed a little at that. "But I can go down and make sure there's coffee and breakfast waiting for when you get downstairs!"
