Most children on Father's Day gave their dads typical Father's Day gifts. It was quite common for items such as power-tools, clothes, grilling equipment, or anything of the like to go flying off the shelves. Maria wasn't most children, and her father was in no way the same as most fathers. This wasn't a bad thing, and Maria had been looking forward to lunch with her dad for some time now. Given the family's ways it was ironic that they agreed to meet on a more "Christian" holiday.
After dinner with her father, Maria headed to a nearby beach. It was late, but a few beach-goers were still around. Scouting for a place to meditate peacefully, Maria located a spot close to the shore line that was not occupied by couples, treasure hunters, or anyone in general. "Guess that's as good enough," Maria said to herself while heading to that area.
After smoothing out the sand to rid it of any stray bits, she carefully sat down on the sandy ground, and stared out into the ocean. The full moon cast it's reflection upon the ocean's surface giving off a faint sort of ethereal light. Maria sighed; her eyes never straying from this beautiful sight. If she had her way she'd stare at the ocean all day. She didn't know why, but her draw to the ocean seemed to be caused by something else, and not because her family worshiped their faith's water deity. No, this was something more primal. It was a distinct feeling in her gut; the more she ignored the open waters, the more it felt as though she were homesick.
The young woman quickly pushed those thoughts aside. Right now she had another matter to think over. Tomorrow marked The Rite to Flereous. It would be a small, holy celebration in honor of their lord of fire. It was also the time when some would go through the Baptism, and bind themselves to a particular daemon. Maria's father had asked if she was ready.
Maria said she didn't know.
It wasn't as though this ritual was obligatory. While Maria had chosen a particular daemon a few years back, she was having doubts. The onslaught of dreams had placed those into her mind. Perhaps it would be better to wait before making such a life altering decision?
Frustrated, Maria fell back against the sand, and let out a groan that escalated into a yell.
