Who: Caroline Forbes and Anna of Arendelle When: Friday before finals Where: Karaoke! What: Singing! Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete when posted
Anna had spent the majority of the last few weeks studying for finals. Sleep? Nah. Not when Anna was taking eight classes (twenty-two units) and had a steady supply of Red Bull. Then there was Memorial Day, and all the other strangeness that’d come about in the last week. Anna was very much looking forward to having some drinks and getting up on stage to sing with her friend.
Finally Anna and Caroline were ready to go up on stage after a couple of drinks and watching some really… well, tone deaf acts. “Tone deaf” was probably the most appropriate adjective for the acts who went on stage before Anna and Caroline.
“Oh my God, I’m so excited.” Anna said, turning to Care. “You’ll be Glinda?”
Caroline needed to let loose before finals. Not that she had been spending quite as much time studying as Anna had. Still a night out would do her some good. And she was sure Anna needed it even more than she did. Karaoke seemed perfect. Especially since the two of them were both decent singers. Okay better than decent.
Caroline had already had quite a few drinks before it was time for them to sing. Not that it mattered. She was barely even buzzed. It would take a lot more for her to get fully drunk and even then she wouldn’t wake up hungover. Plus it wasn’t like she had a Saturday final anyway. Just work and more studying. Yay.
“I know!” Caroline replied just as excited. “If you want?” She would be fine with either. And yes her personality was a lot more like Glinda’s than Elphaba’s but then so was Anna’s. Even more so than Caroline probably.
“Either way works for me! You’ve got the hair for it.” Anna said, playfully. She knew both parts, and could sing either. Anna could sing pretty much anything, really. She hadn’t been that much of a singer before her Dreams, and now that she’d Dreamed the whole story (she assumed) she was even better than before.
And Anna loved singing with Caroline. They both had such great voices.
“You know what we should do?” Anna added, slightly buzzed and easily excitable. “We should convince them to let us go through the whole soundtrack!”
That was true. Her hair was gold with a gentle curl. Anna looked nothing like Elphaba though. But that was okay. “Okay I’ll be Glinda,” she agreed before hearing Anna’s next comment. “I think that can be arranged,” Caroline said with a mischievous grin. Thank you very much compulsion.
“Really?” Anna gave a giddy laugh, then clapped her hands together. “Let’s do it! I don’t think anyone else in here is going to complain.” She hoped, anyway. “C’mon.” And she grabbed her drink, then bounced up from the booth to head over to where the DJ was standing in his DJ area. With the turntables, or whatever. She’d let Caroline do most of the talking, but she did wave her hand at him to get his attention.
The only people that would complain would be other people wanting to sing. But honestly most of the patrons would be happy to hear some decent singing for a change. “We are going to sing the entire soundtrack of Wicked,” she told the guy, eyes narrowed in on his. “And you are going to let us,” she added her pupils dilating as she compelled the man. And that was that.
“Okay,” she said turning to face Anna happily. “We are good to go.”
“Yay!!” Anna beamed. She finished the last of her drink, feeling incredibly tipsy now, and then led the way up onto the stage. They’d have to take turns with the different parts, which wasn’t a big deal. This was like carpool karaoke, or whatever. It would totally work.
Anna stepped up to the mic. “Hey guys! I’m Anna, and this is Caroline, and we know that Hamilton is all the rage right now, but we’re going to do a modern classic tonight. So if you know the words to Wicked, sing along! Okay?”
The people in the club seemed interested. It wasn’t Taylor Swift, so at least it was different. And a few people seemed to perk up at the mentions of modern musicals. That was a good sign!
The crowd didn’t seemed too disappointed and Caroline was kind of excited to sing for awhile. Thank you compulsion. But really the crowd deserved to hear some actual singing for a change. The music for ‘No One Mourns the Wicked’ came on. Caroline sang Glinda’s part letting Anna sing every other part. Next song Anna could be Glinda. Seemed fair right? Especially for the songs Elphaba wasn’t a part of or vice versa. Either way it would all work out.
When they finished the first song the crowd erupted into applause. Caroline gave Anna a knowing smile. This was going to be a great night.
