"Oh yes, I am incredibly cruel, and don't you forget it."
Had Esmeralda had a more conventional childhood, where she hadn't been ostracised by society, where she had stayed in one house and went to school, perhaps her outlook might be a bit different in regards to the biological family and found family. She wouldn't have had to rely on a found family for protection. She would have been like the students she would see as a child, the ones she would befriend on the streets and learn from them through conversation (like Grantaire). But that wasn't the life she'd led, and Esmeralda would never regret her life or wish it had been more conventional. She was who she was, and she had her found family here. "Precisely."
Never let it be said she had no spirit though. Esmeralda would fight with the best of them.
"Oh yes, Halloween is far more popular here as a whole event." Not that it had ever mattered for her. They were tricksters, and always had a ruse. Besides, there was always All Saints Day that was far more popular back home, so she never put much thought into it. This would certainly be something though. "I suppose time will tell if my cruelty wins out or not, though."
