Veronica probably spent too much time at work. it wasn’t that she didn’t like going home, she was just an over achiever. Plus there was a case she was working on now that was taking up a lot of her time. However, she was due for a coffee break. Pushing her chair back from her desk Veronica got up exiting her cubicle and headed for the break room.
Tony was curious about the whole Stormtrooper thing. If they could come through and attack Annaheim… what was stopping the things from Tony’s horrible dreams from coming through? The Battle of New York could take place over Orange County. It’d killed him the first time, he wasn’t all that keen on dying again.
He headed to The Agency to poke at Peggy about it, but decided to swing by the break room and poke his head around. He saw a blonde woman headed in the same direction, and broke into a charming smile.
Of course Veronica recognized the man. She had a feeling most people did. Especially those that worked at The Agency. “Mr. Stark,” Veronica said with a small smile of her own. “What brings you here today?” always the curious one.
Most people definitely did recognise the man. Tony preferred it that way. But he wasn’t sure he knew the woman in the break room. “That would be me, yes,” he replied, feeling just a little guilty that he couldn’t respond to her by name. Of course, he didn’t know everyone in the world by name, and almost everyone in the world knew him--but he tried to make a point of meeting the Agency folk. “Wandering.” Tony replied. He took a couple of steps into the room. “They used to have these amazing granola bars here. Kept them in stock in the break rooms. Do they still do that?”
Of course he would come to just wander around. As long as he helped to keep Orange County safe Veronica wouldn’t complain. “Over there,” she said with a nod to basket of granola bars. “Why do I feel like you came just for those?” she quipped with a smirk on her face. Tony Stark one of the richest men in the OC and he came to The Agency break room for granola bars.
“Ah, thank you.” Tony said, moving over to the basket to grab one of the bars and pull the wrapper open. It was one of those amazing, dark chocolate ones that was chewy and delicious. He took a bite, then wandered back over toward the blonde woman. “Sorry, where are my manners.” He said, and held out a hand for her to shake. “Call me Tony.”
Veronica held out her hand to shake Tony’s. “Veronica,” she replied with a small smile. Veronica rarely broke out into a wide grin. Those were saved for moments of pure happiness. Like when Viv had been born, although that was also a very gross experience. “But don’t think that gets you out of answering my question,” she added as she dropped his hand.
Tony slipped his hand back into his pockets after the handshake, and then raised an eyebrow. He was still holding the bar in his other hand, nibbling on it between sentences and whatever else. It wouldn’t take long for him to finish, and he was sure to toss the wrapper on his way out of the room. “I’m sorry, what was the question?”
It had all been a joke really. The question and her comment about it. It wasn’t a serious thing. Repeating it felt silly now but still she did. “If you came here just for the granola bar.” She walked over to the coffee pot to pour herself a cup that was why she came in here in the first place after all.
“Of course I did.” Tony teased. “You can’t just get these at any supermarket.” He glanced at the wrapper. Tony was starting to do some of his own shopping, but he wasn’t the kind of guy who was often found in any old supermarket. “Can you?” He added, almost nervously. He didn’t have that many bare spots in his myriad of knowledge, but this was one of them.
“Um, yeah,” Veronica replied with a smirk. “Where do you think The Agency gets them?” Granted it was The Agency and the science division could probably make a specialty granola bar that made you smarter or something. But she had no idea why they would go to all that trouble. And she had definitely seen these granola bars at the store.
“Ah. Maybe that’s where I should head next time,” Tony said, then finished the last of the bar and tossed the wrapper in the trash. “But then I wouldn’t get to have these lovely conversations with Agency personnel.” He raised an eyebrow. “It was very nice to meet you officially, Veronica.”
“You’d be missing the great company,” Veronica replied with a smirk. “Nice to meet you too, Tony.”
