The night was coming to a close. Stefan had beers with his friends, tasted some amazing food, danced around the living room when instructed, and was an all-around good party host. It was, frankly, a little exhausting to be around so many humans after the last few weeks. But he didn’t let it show. He laughed when appropriate, brought out more drinks, cleaned up the leftovers, ushered folk out to their cars when necessary, and only let those sober enough drive home.
It was getting late, and Anna had disappeared. Wash had disappeared, too. Stefan thought he’d seen them together by the hot tub, but when he went out to look they weren’t there. If he knew Anna, he was sure she’d headed to bed.
He finished putting some queso dip into a tupperware and into the fridge, then wiped his hands on a dish towel. “I think it was a success.” He mused, turning his attention to Bubbles.
Bubbles had had her fair share of fun. She felt that she'd done a pretty good job of helping Stefan out as much as she could. She really did enjoy herself, though. There'd been a lot of people there, but she didn't mind. It was nice to meet some of Stefan's friends and his brother. She'd been pretty nervous about meeting them all, but she didn't think that was her being ridiculous. Plus, Stefan was probably nervous meeting her siblings, so she couldn't have been alone in that.
Still, she couldn't have been happier that it was over. She was a little tired and, as much as she was a people person, she was glad that she could be here with Stefan by herself for a while. She needed a recharge. "I think so, yes." She leaned against him lightly, checking to make sure there wasn't anything else that needed to be put away. "I'm so tired, though. How are you doing?"
It’d been a pretty long day. People were at the house for hours and hours, and it was pretty exhausting keeping up with all that. Even for a vampire. Stefan turned to Bubbles and wrapped his arms around her in return. Her warmth felt good against his body, and it wasn’t until she mentioned how tired she was that he realized how tired he was.
“I’m good. Satisfied. It’s been a good day.” He turned to press his nose into her hair. “Tired, too. I don’t think I need to do any more tidying. You want to watch a movie or something?” He asked. He wasn’t ready to let her go so soon.
Bubbles let herself relax a little as Stefan wrapped his arms around her. “I’m glad you’re good.” It was nice when celebrations and parties went the way you wanted them to. She could remember a few mishaps in her previous party adventures. “Tidying can always be left to later anyway,” she replied, a hint of amusement to her voice. “Unless there’s something that’s going to rot and smell terrible. That’s pretty much the only tidying I do after parties. Put away anything that will be terrible if left out.”
The question about if she wanted to watch a movie was answered with a nod. “I could go for a movie. I’m feeling lazy about going home anyway. We should watch something happy. That’s pretty much my only request.”
Stefan ran his hands up and down her back as he held her against him. He couldn’t help but be intoxicated by the way her body felt against his. He closed his eyes for a moment, then chuckled. “No, you’re right. Nothing that will spoil.” Then he pulled back a little and turned his eyes to hers. “Happy it is. You want to cuddle on the sofa?” He let his hands trail down her arms until his fingers found and laced with hers. “Or head to my bedroom?”
That was always the question. Cuddling on the sofa had sort of ended with a lot of kissing last time, which was fine, but if anyone happened to walk in, it might be a little awkward. Especially with the few stragglers who couldn't drive home. "Well, that probably depends..." She peered up at him. "Are we going to disturb any of your guests out here?" She tilted her head slightly. “Also if there's a chance this will end up in make outs, we may want to be in your room.”
“I think almost everyone’s gone.” Stefan mused, glancing around the place. He wasn’t sure where Lexi was, and Anna had disappeared. Many of the guests were now gone. He thought the yard was empty. “But we can have a little more privacy in my bedroom.” Then he gave her hand a squeeze and started off down the hall, tugging her along with him.
Bubbles shrugged slightly. She didn't know if anyone was still around. She just didn't want to make for an awkward situation. She followed him back to his room, rubbing her eyes. She was tired, but she would try to stay awake. She didn't really want another situation where she didn't turn up again and worried people. "It was nice to meet more of your friends."
“It was a pretty full house, wasn’t it?” Stefan said, smiling a little as he pushed open the door to his room. He brought Bubbles in behind him and closed the door again. “Honestly, I had no idea who all those people were,” he joked. “I just thought you’d like me better if I had friends.”
Once inside the room, he pulled her over to the bed to settle in. Since the last time she’d stayed over, he’d set up a television on the opposite wall from the head of his bed, so he had something to watch instead of a tiny, laptop screen. There was even a remote and a dvd player.
“What do you want to watch? I’ve got The Princess Bride, I’ve been thinking about watching that one for a while.”
Bubbles laughed at that. "It's true. I wouldn't like you very much if you were friendless. I would have to find a new boyfriend entirely then." It was a lie, a joke that she felt bad about already. "But not really! I like you too much. Even if you didn't have any friends."
She noted the television. It would be nice to be able to see the movie easier. Plus, then no one had to worry about missing anything. "I see you've updated. You went from very bare to almost normal." She laughed at that before sitting on the bed and kicking off her sandals. "The Princess Bride is THE BEST! We should definitely watch that one."
“Oh, good. Because, you know, if you found a new boyfriend, I’d probably cry.” He was only mostly teasing.
It only took a moment for Stefan to set up the entertainment center for their viewing tonight. Just so happened he had the dvd handy, so he popped it into the player and grabbed the remote. Then he was back on the bed beside Bubbles, pulling her body against his, her back against his chest. They could sit up rather comfortably that way, and hopefully not fall asleep. (Though, he did want her to spend the night again soon.)
“It is the best, isn’t it?” Stefan chuckled, then quoted, “Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles.” Then he turned on the film.
"Crying. My one weakness." There was a pause. "Outside of sad animal commercials and movies where the pet dies." Those were the worst. Once she'd watch Old Yeller and it was the worst thing that she'd ever been through. She was never certain that she was going to make it through Babe the first time she watched it either. But it had ended up okay and she hadn't needed to cry as much as she had. Maybe only a little bit.
Bubbles made herself comfortable when Stefan pulled her closer. Sitting was probably a good idea. If she fell asleep again, it was probably going to be an issue. She'd have to plan the next sleepover. Carefully. But it was probably a good idea to stay awake through the movie.
"Yes!" She laughed then, quieting herself a moment later as the movie started. The part where Westley said as you wish was her favorite.
More information for Stefan to log away for later. He shook his head a little, and settled back against the pillows, drawing her in against his chest with strong arms. It was a good movie; one that Stefan had seen a hundred times or more. It was one of the only DVDs they had when he was deployed overseas. He didn’t fall asleep, though he did feel sleepy and hungry by the end.
“Bubbles?” He whispered, turning to nuzzles his lips against her ear. “Are you asleep?”
Bubbles hadn't fallen asleep, but she was pretty sure that it was close enough. When Stefan whispered, she rubbed her eyes before saying, "No, but it doesn't mean my body hasn't tried." It was helpful to have a movie that she wanted to see the end of on, though. She turned her head to press a kiss to his cheek. "I'd ask if you were asleep, but obviously you're awake." The next best question was, "But do you want to be asleep? I can go if you're tired."
“Unless I’m talking in my sleep,” Stefan teased, then pressed a quick kiss against the corner of her mouth. He paused for a moment, considering. “I’m not tired. But I don’t want you to get in trouble with your family.” He was still fairly intimidated by the Professor and Blossom and Buttercup. But at least he’d met Blossom now. “We should probably figure out a way for you to stay over without getting in trouble. Maybe you can tell them you’re sleeping over with Anna. Or would they see right through that?” He smirked softly.
“Do you need a ride home?” Stefan asked, lowering his chin to rest on her shoulder.
Bubbles thought about it for a while. "You do worry about that an awful lot. Blossom likes you and Buttercup's only sort of scary, but if I pout at her, I can probably sway her. And the Professor isn't that scary. I don't think. He is also weak to pouting. But probably not yours." She smiled, though. "We can always plan for a sleepover and I'll tell them I'm having a mental health movie night and staying over. If you want." She shrugged slightly. She wasn't sure if lying was the way to get anyone to trust them. Maybe just carefully mentioning it. It wasn't like she wasn't almost twenty anyway. She was allowed to sleep over at a boy's place. She was pretty sure Buttercup had stayed over at Nasir's before. She probably would have stayed there too if she had to. The only difference there was that neither Buttercup nor Nasir were each other's types.
"Probably so, yeah. Unless you really want me to stay."
“No, it’s okay.” Stefan said. He knew that Bubbles was an adult, as was he, and what they did together was their own business. But there was also the worry that the family wasn’t going to approve, or worse. He’d heard horror stories from his friends in the military about girls getting kicked out of the house for their indiscretions, about things changing after the couple started spending the night. After sex started. He and Bubbles had done some things, but he wanted their first time together to be special--especially because he knew it was going to be her first time. That wasn’t the kind of thing a guy rushed into. Especially since Stefan had control issues to start with.
“I’ll take you home. And then we can plan another night together. Maybe when you’re finished with school for the summer?”
Bubbles nodded. She didn't mind staying over, but she probably should make sure to be finished with her schooling first. It was almost over and then she would have to sit for the exam, but it wouldn't be the worst thing that she'd gone through.
“We can definitely do that. It's not too much longer and then we'll have more time. Sort of. There's still work, but it's not school and work.” She smiled as she turned to look at Stefan. “I had a nice time today. Thanks for inviting me.”
“You’re welcome. Thanks for coming.” He leaned in to steal a kiss from her lips--a sweet, gentle one. A meaningful one. She’d come into his life randomly, but now that she was there? He couldn’t imagine things without her. “C’mon. Let’s get you home before your carriage turns into a pumpkin.” He climbed up off the bed, bringing her along with him, then slipped his hand into hers to lead her to his car.
